the rest of it looking just fine. lorton road east of 95, have a crash still hanging around there. telegraph road at east street as well. more on the two issues on the beltway coming up. melissa, thank you. 6:02. breaking news out of fairfax county where the police remain on the scene of a barricade situation. they've been there for hours on stockton parkway. >> news 4's justin finch joins us live from the scene. good morning, justin. >> reporter: angie, good morning. fairfax county police say they are prepared to wait. their talks have been ongoing. so far he has not come out and we are told as well that he could be great concern because he could hurt himself or possibly two children who could be in that house with him. let's give you now a sense of where we are. we are now at culpepper road near londonderry road. the scene itself is not far from us, around the corner off stockton

sunday. fairfax county police were tipped off by a concerned friend who spoke with the now barricaded man on the phone. he told the police, the man, his friend, seemed to be in mental crisis. police have learned two children may be inside that house as well and with concerns he could hurt himself and others, police have gotten permission to get that man to doctors but first he has to open that door. >> in this particular situation we do believe that he is experiencing some type of mental crisis. we want to get him help so we've obtained paperwork that allows us to take him into custody and to see a mental health professional for an evaluation. >> reporter: now just recently the sirens have stopped blaring. we are told that the negotiations to help get that man outside of the home. they've been pleading with him for several hours to answer his phone and to come outside but so far we have no word that he has done that. back in to you. >> justin finch. justin, thank you. it is a scary tu

murder is still out there. megan fitzgerald joins us now. >> reporter: steve stevens has left the state of ohio. he reported shooting and killing a 78-year-old man. he recorded it. it's posted to the social media site. it shows the moments he opened fire on robert goodwin sr. new this morning, we are hearing from people who new stevens. they say they did not see this coming. >> heart broken. somebody's out there asking for help and we can't help him. >> steve, if you can hear us, there are people out there who care and that will get you help. we hope and pray, all of us. >> reporter: stevens claims to have killed more than a dozen people but so far police have not been able to confirm that. he should be considered aed

anyone who sees him or knows him, has information about his whereabouts is encouraged to call 911. back to you. >> megan fitzgerald from the live desk. megan, thank you. the victims of the virginia tech shooting will be remembered in spotsylvania this morning. the names of all 32 victims will be read aloud outside of the public service building. the ceremony will get underway at 10:00 to mark the ten years since the tragedy. an emotional day of remembrances took place on the campuses of virginia tech yesterday. yesterday a candlelight vigil was held. the occasion brought together alumnae, students and relatives. earlier in the day the parents of reima samaha meant to them years after their daughter's death. >> this is a great meeting of our -- i call it our unintended family and that's how i kind of coined this tenth year anniversary down here. it's comforting to be

peace within me and i found it. >> reima was a freshman at the time of the shooting and grew up in centerville. well, today is the first weekday commute during metro's newest safe track surge. this will impact you if you need to ride on the green line in maryland. the green belt and college park stations are closed. that means you will have to start your commute on a shuttle bus this morning. metro is running three shuttle buses between the prince george's plaza, green belt and college park station. they will be closed until april 29th. commuters are already feeling the impact. >> i work in chinatown so it's a big inconvenience to have to take an extra 30 minutes to get to work when, you know, normally i have a 25-minute commute. >> and we have all of the ways that you can still get around the safe track

waits there. vice president michael pence made an unannounced visit to the demilitarized zone. this came one day after the failed missile launch. pence called this a provocation. supreme court justice neil gorsuch will take his seat on the bench for the first time today. he's likely to make a big difference in one of the most important cases in this term. he'll be heard later this week. the case involves religion and government. president trump will welcome children to the white house for his easter egg roll. the specific plans for this year are unclear. events are set to kick off at 7:30 this morning. news 4's aimee cho is live at the white house. heading to the national zoo today. the family celebration begins at 10:00 this morning. it is part of an easter monday tradition that dates back to 1891. they ka you will it easter monday. african-aman

back to you. >> megan, thank you. the planned executions of eight death row inmates in arkansas is on hold this morning. a federal judge granted stays to the inmates who were scheduled to be executed before the end of the month. that's when the state supply of an execution drug expires. in the order they say the inmates have a right to challenge the state's method of executi execution. arkansas has not put anyone to death since 2005. here's another story that you may see on your social media feed today. it was an emotional start to the nba playoffs for boston celtics player psy say atom mass. his younger sister chynna was killed in a car crash. thomas did play against the chicago bulls. the team held a moment of silence before the start of the game. washington redskins linebacker

legend sean taylor -- is set to star as legends 'skins sean taylor. it will portray taylor's murder. it's called "the perfect murder" and will air on discovery channel. you'll see how the police solved the murder using real life interviews and scenes recreating the event. the episode will air in june. today the 121st running of the boston marathon will get underway. crews have prepared the course and boosted security. this marks four years since the terrible bombings took place near the finish line killing three people, injuring hundreds others. most of the competitors will not finish until this afternoon. along the race course today will be a woman who made history 50 years ago. katheryn will be running once again in the boston marathon. she went down in the history books as

to officially enter the marathon in 1967, which was at the time an all male race. in honor of her achievements race officials will retire her bib number 261. >> congratulations. well deserved. the ironman is one of the most grueling races in the world, we know. >> a unique father and son team accomplished that fete. he was not going to let cerebral palsy stop him from competing in florida. his father was by his side for hours also competing. the course consists of 70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running. before the race olympian michael phelps tweeted and called johnny after he made a video. >> he is a great athlete but he also inspires countless people. just like i want to don

with melissa on breaking news on the roads. >> good morning, guys. big problem here in the traffic world for a lot of my friends in northern virginia. chopper 4 over this issue eastbound 7 shut down just before beulah road. you can see this massive tree that came down across the roadway. looks like a vehicle then ran into the debris that had fallen across the road. westbound lanes unaffected. eastbound 7, take a look at the map before beulah road. we have the lanes blocked with the downed tree. we're talking about a 3 mile back upthis morning. chopper 41 up in the air. brad, tell us how to get around this. >> reporter: you're exactly right. the tree fell and the karan into the tree. let me show you this delay. i grew up in this area. i know this route very well. route 7 backed up almost all the way back to sterling. let me show you about the delays. sorry for the camera move. that is quite a delay coming down in bound route 7 all the way to beulah

children could possibly be with him. negotiations have been going on with that man since 8:00 last night. out of concern for him, those kids and neighbors police tell us they are working slowly and they have permission to get that man to doctors for a mental health evaluation. first, that man has to come out and he has to concept. neighbors here watching tell us they are hoping this can end safely and also soon. >> i still don't know what else -- what is going on, but the police presence is let's say reassuring in the midst of this. >> reporter: as you can see, lots of large police vehicles remain on scene. police tape around the area. we are now at londonderry and culpepper roads. at this point there is no call for a widespread evacuation. should that change they will notify neighbors as soon as possible. back to you. >> justin finch, thank you. he's accused of killing someone and broadcasting it on facebook live and no onews

now. there is a manhunt for him now in multiple states. nbc's ron nmott joins us live i cleveland. >> reporter: eun, angie, good morning to you both. this is a very disturbing crime. yesterday about 2:00 in the afternoon a 74-year-old grandfather of 14 minding his own business in broad daylight walking down the sidewalk when this suspected killer confronts him. asks him to mention that name and says that's the reason he's about to lose his life. it was from this recording that was out there live. it was uploaded later. the manmade some statements about killing other people. police have not yet substantiated those claims including a double shooting last night they say is not connected to him. this is where the search is now. they are looking for a white newer model ford fusion four door sedan with temporary ohio tags. they believe that is the

steve stevens is driving. they have alerted indiana, pennsylvania to be on the lookout as well. they don't know if he's still in this area. a woman who is reportedly his girlfriend is in protective custody and cooperating with the police. they wanted to keep her safe. if you see him, call 911. do not confront him. he is considered armed and dangerous. >> ron mott live in cleveland. more coming up next on the "today" show. 6:49 now. now for more details about facebook live. the social media giant has come under mounting pressure to address concerns about its policies towards live or any video that's posted. the company says that is easy for users to record live videos for review or removal. facebook has an on call team staffed at all times. facebook says any user can report a livid yes and it only takes one report for content to be reviewed. u.s. supreme court will begin hearing the final cases of its term today.
