if iran is left unchecked the united states could be facing an i am fent threat similar to the one presented by north korea. now nbc's ali joining us by phone. ali, talk to me about this announcement and how iran is reacting to all of this. >> reporter: good morning. well, first iran made no public comment on this latest development. they were made very late last night tehran time so they have yet to react. the president is out making a speech right now. he hasn't touched on the subject, but i can tell you when america talks tough to iran it doesn't usually go down very well here. secretary tillerson certainly had some strong words. also any talk of sanctions or renegotiating the jcpoa also known as the iran nuclear deal so close to elections in this country on may 19th, is going to deeply disturb the regime and feed into the hard line narrative that the nuclear deal with america was a bad one. iran should never have engaged with america because it was
