here's the cold front. it will be about 20 to 25 degrees colder saturday and sunday afternoon. don't get used to the warm weather. right now most of the rain is up across northern maryland, near the pennsylvania border. future weather tries to bring a little chance for a few showers inside the beltway between about 7 and 8:30 this morning. dry and toasty. there will be a chance for a round of thunderstorms firing up later on this afternoon. today's rain chance is at 60%. temperature wise, i know sheena's flip-flop queen. >> i like the flip-flop weather. any chance i can get. today will definitely be that kind of a day. going to feel like summer outside. temperatures this afternoon will be in the mid 80s. we're waking up and walking outside to warm temperatures. a little bit muggy.

around elementary school kids for nearly a decade. megan? >> reporter: that's right, he was around children quite a bit. now 34-year-old christopher speight was arrested. a search of his home turned up sexually explicit material involving children. he admitted to uploading images from his iphone and other devices to a drop box account. he has worked with the prince george's county school system for nine years. he has also worked with the south county sports academy. now the prince george's county school system released a statement saying speights will no longer work in the school system and any behavior that harms a child will not be tolerated. christopher speights is facing three counts of distribution and six counts of distribution of child pornography.

>> megan mcgrath live. thank you. we want to get to erika gonzalez. new information about a terror attack coming in. erika? >> this is a story that continues to evolve, aaron. we're learning so much more about the suspected shooter in last night's terror attack. the gunman who shot and killed a police officer and injured two others was actually detained in february for threatening police and then they let him go because of a lack of evidence. then back in 2003 he was convicted of attempted homicide and shootings on two police officers. this is video last night where police were conducting a number of raids. one officer, as we mentioned, died in the shooting and two others were injured. isis has claimed responsibility. meanwhile, there is a countrywide manhunt for any accomplices in this attack. back over to you. >> thank you, erica. it's 6:05. new this

egypt is back in the united states right now. she grew up in virginia and we told you when she was acquitted of abusing children earlier this week. we'll have more on how she finally made it back and her plans to meet with president trump. that's coming up at 6:30. while you were sleeping, an inmate in arkansas was executed. ledell lee, his attorneys filed appeals. the scout declined to hear them. lee is the first of four inmates expected to dye before. fo former congressman rather riff hogan called his dad an american hero. he represented maryland's fifth district in congress in the '50s and '70s. he was the recent to serve as prince

executive. he was 88 years jeemd today family and friends will say good-bye to a soldier that was killed. he died when the helicopter crashed doing routine training. his memorial service is happening where he grew up. not clear why the helicopter went down. two other soldiers are still in the hospital. seven minutes past the hour. prince george's county police want people on the lookout for this 74-year-old woman. helen johnson has not been seen since april 10th. she may be driving a gray ford taurus. it looks a lot like the one you see on the screen here. it has maryland tags, 4 ald 25. put this information up on the nbc washington app as well today. this morning a man is recovering from serious injuries after police say he was hit by a car. the crash happenedea

it may be a long road but, you know, at least we got her back now. we got her back. >> cummins wife has already filed for divorce. some complicated new details about aaron hernandez and be the investigation into how he died. a state medical examiner confirms the former patriots player committed suicide in the cell. his body will be moved to a location in connecticut. his brain will be sent to a center studying brain trauma in athletes. he was serving a life sentence of murder. the man whom police say went on a hate crime shooting spree will be arraigned today in california. he will face a judge for last week's shooting. police say he killed three white men

montgomery county sheriff's deputies have been equipped with body worn cameras. it launched a pilot program to equip about ten deputies with cameras for three months to test and measure the effectiveness of the devices for sheriff's deputies. >> they secure county courts, serve warrants and an agency spokesperson told us only uniformed deputies will record images with these cameras. the devices are the same ones that the police officers in the county use. well, saturdays usually mean a lot of tourists on the national mall, but an extra 50,000 people are headed that way tomorrow. they're coming to washington for the earth day and science march. the rally is set for 10:00. the earth day

6:25. how's this for starting over? >> a man who served a decade in prison has accepted a teaching position at georgetown's acclaimed law school. the fbi arrested and charged shon hopwood with bank robberies. he pled guilty and served 11 years in federal prison. while he was incarcerated he got a job in the law library and started writing briefs for fellow prisoners. his third appeal of a friend's case went all the way to the supreme court which decided unanimously in his fellow inmate's favor and reduced his sentence. >> i was told time and time again by lawyers, multiple lawyers, that i would never be able to go to law school and that i would never get a law degree. >> this guy is going to make a contribution to our students and bring a perspective here that no one else can. >> when he was released from prison he did attend law school, wrote a book and clerked for a

"news 4 today" starts now. good morning. happy friday to you. we made it to the end of the week. it's 6:30. i'm eun yang. >> i'm aaron gilcrist. we have the sunrising on what feels like a summer day. we're monitoring the chance of rain and thunderstorms. >> we're still seeing impact of the strong storms that happened last night. take a live look at adelphi where a tree came down right on top of a car. it's all smushed. chuck and sheena, what can we expect today? >> well, another chance for storms. >> another chance for storms. warm. a little muggy. that helps to fuel those storms. >> certainly is. much like yesterday, not expecting a big chance for severe weather, but any individual storms certainly could produce a gusty wind. could

tree or two. that's sort of the same level of threat we're facing later today. light rain across northern maryland. a few sprinkles around the city. as you're going to the bus stop, have your umbrella ready to go. there will be a lot of outdoor recess hours from 10:00 or 11:00 up until 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon. after 4:00, 5:00, chances of thunderstorms coming back into the picture. have your umbrella ready to go. shorts and short sleeves with temperatures in the 80s. you'll need your sunglasses for the lunch hour running of errands. we'll keep you posted. rain chances which look uncomfortably high, melissa mollet, which look uncomfortably high. >> i don't like that. outer loop at georgia. not as big of an issue as we had earlier. also a problem on the inner loop. we're okay there now at the top of the beltway. inner loop, new crash just reported here.

of rigs and adelphi road, pepco crews working to restore power to several other condo buildings and customers in this area. we did see a tree apparently took down at least one power pole off edwards way in that area. i want to show you a picture from the prince george's county fire department showing drywall damage inside a condo unit. we are told at this time that strong winds are being blamed. now at this time neighbors in this area, some are waking up to power. we have seen some light switches on in this area. if you are traveling back out live in this area this morning, you will want to beware because there's lots of repair work going on. live in adelphi, justin finfinc news 4. prince george's county substitute teacher facing several child pornography charges. police arrested christopher

elementary school and coached basketball at the south county sports academy. take a look at your screen now. this is an inmate who escaped a hospital. police say they don't know where he is this morning. they say timothy powers left tower county hospital last night. he is a minimum security inmate. there is a warrant out for his arrest. arkansas held its first execution in years last night. the state wants to conduct three more executions before the end of april in a crucial injection drug is set to expire. 6:34. breaking news just into the newsroom. erika gonzalez has more on a death inside an arlington jail. erika, what happened? >> we're getting information about a death that happened inside an arlington county detention center. bernie is 40 years old. he was given a short leave.

34-year-old christopher clyne worked as a substitute teacher. he worked as a coach. was around children for ten years or more. so certainly disturbing allegations here this morning. now investigators received a tip about a drop box account back in december. that's what got this investigation underway. yesterday they searched speights home and found sexually explicit material involving children. they say he, quote, admitted to uploading various images and videos depicting child pornography on to his drop box account. he admitted he up loaded the images and videos to drop box from his cell phone, and mac desktop. he's worked in addition to being a substitute teacher here, he's worked with the south county sports academy. we know he's wd

school officials say that speights is no longer working in the school system but they take any kind of behavior that's harmful to a child. he's facing nine counts involving child pornography. additional counts are pending. back to you. >> thank you, megan. th the former prince george's county teacher's aide admitted to recording, engaging in sex acts with at least 12 students. this comes while he worked at the elementary school in glen arden. he faces between 60 and 100 years in prison. an alexandrea woman could spend less than 15 years in jail for killing her husband. she was convicted of shooting her husband to death in their old town home on duke street last october. marshall faced up to life in prison but the jury

recommended 14 years. a judge will sentence her in july. breaking news now. a shooting at an historically black college. erika gonzalez at the live desk. >> new video from the north carolina a&t university. a man found dead on the school premises. we understand from the police that they first got a call from a woman saying that a man had walked up to her with a gun. she struggled with him, the gun went off. she wasn't injured and then police say the man took off. a few hours later they found him shot in his car. at this point they're trying to figure out whether or not the incidents are related. they want any student with information on this to of course call police. it is the third fatal shooting in greensboro in just 24 hours. back to you. >> all right, erika. thank you. today family and friends will say good-bye to a soldier killed when a black hawk helicopter crashed on monday. jeremy tomlin w

he died when the helicopter crashed on a routine mission. it's not clear how that helicopter went down. two other soldiers hurt in the crash are still in the hospital. the navy is paying attention to the nude photo scandal plaguing the marines right now. they've updated regulations when it comes to sharing private intimate images without consent. doing that now is an explicit violation of navy rules. this wirule also applies to marines. they learned that hundreds of female service members had nude photos of themselves shared on a private facebook page. breaking now, new developments about an attack on police in paris. >> let's go back to erika gonzalez at the live desk. >> we just learned the name of the man behind this attack. karim cheurfi lived on the outskirts of paris.

erika gonzalez. thank you. when congress returns they'll have five days to pass a bill to keep the government going. >> back in december they did pass a stop-gap bill to fund federal agencies through midnight next friday. president trump is adding to the pressure by demanding money for a southwest border wall. another program that threatens the bipartisan deal. along with a new spending bill president trump is working hard on a vote to repeal the affordable care act by his 100th day in office. congressional aides say there's no health care votes scheduled. the budget is a priority. not too early to start thinking about football. >> we know the redskins schedule this year. here are the four highlights you need to know. first off, the team is playing at home on thanksgiving day. that's a big game against the giants. playing on thanksgiving at home. >> they open the season against the eagles in landover.
