cleaning teacher and coach faces child pornography charges leaving parents who trusted their children with him with many questions. news 4 just spoke to a fellow coach who has known christopher for ten years and you will hear his reaction. cleaning up in parts of our area this morning ahead of what could be a messy weekend. we'll look at the hardest hit areas after last night's storms. and we have a few showers on the radar, but a rainy weekend in the forecast. coming up, i'll show you the warmth expected and your rain chances for saturday and sunday.

good morning. i'm erika gonzalez. >> and i'm aaron gilchrist. we begin with charges against a teacher and coach. >> detectives say they found child pornography's in his home. he work onned at brad bury heights elementary school. >> prosecutors said he admitted to the crime saying he uploaded videos and images to his drop box account from several devices that were found in his room. >> megan mcgrath is at the school getting reaction to this arrest this morning. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, christopher space was with the prince george's county school system works as a substitute for nine years. and he was also a basketball coach with the south county sports academy. the president and founder of that group luther henry says space was with the organization since the beginning and he says the allegations are very upsetting because the goal of that group has always been to protect and help

>> our job was to dheem off the stre keep them off the streets and out of trouble. so this -- you know, you feel betrayed almost. and some hurt for me, you know. because he's a friend. you know somebody for ten years and been in the program with you, it's a friend in a sense. and to see this happen, very disappointing for me. >> reporter: and christopher space has been suspended from the sports academy and also no longer working with the prince george's county school system. they say any behavior that harms a child will not be tolerated. he's charged with nine counts involving child pornography and investigator s say more counts are pending. back to you. new developme

deadly shooting attack in paris. french police have identified the gunman as kareem sharufi. he has a long criminal history. paris prosecutor's office says they found a pump action shotgun and knives in the gunman's car. three of his family members were arrested in a raid overnight and one officer was killed. two others were hurt when that gunman opened fire in the champs-elysees shopping district yesterday. she fought for children's welfare in egypt, then she was detained for years. >> but now aya hijazi is back in the united states and she's meeting with the president this morning. hijazi is from northern virginia and she groew up in falls churc. she was found not guilty of abuse and returned to the u.s. last night. the human rights center thanked president trump for helping negotiate her release. >> she said hijazi and her husband were invited to the white house todayshi

children on the streets in egypt before she was arrested almost three years ago. all right. turning to the weather now ahead of a weekend cooldown, it will be like summer today. sheena parveen is here with what we can expect. >> yeah, feeling like summer today. not so much this weekend. it will be cooler and rain chances will go up. locally most of the area dry, clouds are around, but near leesburg and winchester, we have light rain here. later on this afternoon though, temperatures will be warming up. right now we're warming to the mid to low 70s, quickly we should be around 80 degrees, low 80s this afternoon. but that also comes with the chance for some thunderstorms. so look at future weather. by 6:00 p.m. trying to throw in some thunderstorms here. it's been fluctuating a bit, but it does look like a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. into the weekend, rain chances do get higher. going into your saturday, look at all the cloud cover. a few spotty shower, but then things ramp up saturday night s

the timing coming up. it is a rough start on this friday morning for some people that live in a delphi maryland. last night's storms caused trees to topple. >> and hundreds of people in that area are also without power. justin finch has more on the cleanup effort. >> reporter: we're at the presidential park condos where you will see lots of scenes like this one, trees snapping at their base and falling on to objects. in this case a presidential park condo's work truck and an suv also took down a power line as well. you will see many scenes like this in the adelphi area. we did see pepco crews working to restore power to several condo buildings and customers knocked offline as a result of the storm. we spoke to residents who say they felt the fury of the storm between 9:00 and 10:00 last night. we met a man here at presidential park who says that he came out here tock

already. ledell lee was exciecuted overnight. his attorneys had filed several appeals, but the court declined to hear them. the lethal drug the state uses for executions expires at the end of the month. the state says there is nothing nor say about aaron hernandez. the medical examiner says it was definitely a suicide. the former patriots player found hanged in his prison cell. but his lawyers believe his death was suspicious and his fiancee has filed a motion trying to prevent the state from droig any evidendestroying any . hernandez was serving a life sentence for murder. his body is being moved to connecticut for a funeral and his brain will be sent to a center studying brain trauma in athletes. larry hogan sr. has died after suffering a stroke on saturday. in a facebook post last night, governor larry hogan called his dad an american hero. the elder hogan represented

npr and now cabaret. >> yeah. it's a weird juxtaposition. >> where does your interest start and how do you juggle all of this? >> i performed with pink martini for several years and what i find that performance and radio journalism have in common is connecting with people. and telling stories and so in this performance that i'm doing tomorrow night, i'm going to tell some stories of experiences that i've had around the world through music, talk about some of the people i've met, and some of the commonalties that we have. >> because you've reported on wars, i mean everything from the arctic circle even being on air -- >> yeah. >> so we'll be able to see some of that experience through the music. >> i find that people think of places that are far away from us, very different from us. and having been to iraq, to ukraine, to the united kingdom on to some of the other places where people may seem very far

and music is a good way of drawing those connections. so i will be telling some of those stories and singing some of those songs. >>cabaret, they have different ideas about what it is about. so what is it really about? >> to me the difference between a cabaret and musical review, a musical review is just an hour of stories and songs. but a cabaret has a connection with the audience, it ends someplace different than it began. it makes eye contact. it has a reason for existing. and one of the reasons it took me so long to decide do it, i wasn't sure i had anything to say. and thend i realized there was something i wanted to say. >> where does this start, though? where does the love for music and for singing and honing that craft, where does it come from? >> well, i sang when if i was high school and college. i did a lot of theater. i sort of left that behind and i went into journalism. and then when i began performing p

he stories here and despite what it looks like on the outside, a level of functionality? >> definitely. whose family isn't a little bit dysfunctional. but it's interesting because allison is a lesbian and her father who was a guy man living in the closet in a very small town in pennsylvania. and so dealing with those sort of identity issue, how people should be able to understand and embrace their own identity and live it honestly and if they don't bad things can happen is a priority for the show. and it's really important to me. and that said, it always feels strange to get into that as a topic because i don't want people to think this show isn't for me. this show is for anybody who loves theater. even in your life hasn't baby exactly like allison's or her father's, there are a lot of points of entry. so i think it's a show for anybody. >> are there other struggles that people might identify with with with or even some of the happier

next week or so. it's getting warmer outside and spring can bring dangers for your pets. from flees and ticks to of course the heat. so here to talk about all of this is veterinarian dr. kendra baker. thank you for being here. >> of course. >> and who do you have here? we have a big giant baby basically. >> we do. this is cash. he is an 11 month old baby. so he's a big boy. and he is available for adoption. >> awesome. cash is super sweet, so we'll show you some things you can do to prevent flees a a and ticks. let's first talk about, we've had some hot days so far. felt like summer. we've had some instances where dogs have had to be rescued from hot cars. what can you say about that as a pets owner? >> sure. as a pet owner, it is something that is terrible to see. and as a veterinarian, i've seen multiple animals come inte

stroke. the shortest way about it is if you don't want to wear a winter coat inside your car, your pet doesn't want to be in there either. they also don't want to be on hot asphalt. it can cause significant damage and lead to death. >> unfortunately, we've seen that. and we'll talk more about that again as the summer months approach. but now let's talk about heart worms. sometimes when you go into an adoption center, there will be a sign saying this dog is up for adoption, but it has heart worm. talk about how a dog gets heart worm, how they are treated and really what it is. >> absolutely. so heart worm is a parasite, a worm as the name suggests. it is transmitted by mosquito bites. so dogs conditions give t s ca to one another. it needs that mosquito to bite the infected dog and then bite another dog in order to transmit the disease. so once that happen,s infected larva go into the dog and make their home in the heart,

i know, buddy. they grow to extreme sizes. you can find them up to a foot long and they multiply in numbers. >> but they can be treated? >> they absolutely can. if your dog does test positive for heart worms, your veterinarian will confirm that test. after that, they will recommend treatment immediately. the longer that you leave those worms, the longer that they have to grow to multiply to cause damage to your dog. >> wow. >> so treatment is lengthy. it's expensive. it is not something that you want to go forward with. >> but does it mostly work? because unfortunately when people see that sign, they kind of pass by the dog. >> absolutely. so at the humane rescue alliance, we follow the american heart worm society guidelines for treatment. it is the gold standard for treatment and it is shown to be effective up to 98% to 99%. occaal
