and they need it for work and school even on the weekends and it is a big inconvenience. >> reporter: sources tell news 4 metro employees have been telling supervisors they will not show up to work friday. metro management and largest union are locked in a heated tense contract dispute. adam tuss broke the story at 5:00. >> reporter: contractually they are not allowed to spriek strike. this is a way they feel they can get the attention of general manager. >> reporter: union leaders say they do not support a sick out. however a metro spokesperson says there have been an unusual high number of absentee requests. >> makes me feel stressed. >> reporter: news 4 learned there is an e-mail going around telling metro supervisors that they will have to step up and be willing to work 12 hour shifts in case

don't show up to work. >> i hope they work it out because people rely on metro. metro's largest union has planned a march from the square metro station to the board meeting on thursday. the union is encouraging members to take part in the march. i'm shomari stone, news 4. new at 11:00 a d.c. man has been arrested and charged in the death of his father. investigators believe 26-year-old david blakeny jr. stabbed his father to death last week in the berry farm neighborhood in southeast washington. when police arrived there before noon he was already dead. his son is charged with second degree murder. investigators are trying to figure out what started a five alarm fire at a vacant apartment building near the university of maryland. tonight a few significant hot spots continue to burn under the collapsed roof. more than 150 firefighters

building. it was still under construction near baltimore avenue on monday. fire officials say the fire broke out on onet of the top floors. crews are expected to be on the scene here for days. >> going to stay on the scene now until the fire is completely extinguished on the hot spots. building engineering are going through and trying to determine structural stability. >> investigators believe the fire was an accident but they don't know what started it. firefighters are estimating more than $39 million worth of damages. storm team 4 is tracking showers tonight. temperatures are on the rise. doug how should we prepare for tomorrow? >> you can take umbrellas tonight but i don't think you will need umbrellas tomorrow. tomorrow will be a different day. you will start with jackets but you will not need them on the way home. they can sit in the back seat.

has new reaction. >> reporter: the cell phone tower would be built here on the property of eleanor roosevelt high school. we start with a story of a man who says he will be able to see that tower when he looks out his back door. >> we are talking about 200 to 300 meters from here where the tower will go. >> reporter: he lives behind the high school in green belt very close to a planned 100 foot tall cell phone tower. he is concerned about the health of his children. once your daughters go to high school here you are thinking of moving. >> exactly. >> reporter: william was among dozens of people who packed a church meeting room to ask questions and voice opposition to the planned tower. >> we are here to let you know that you might as well prepare to fight and spend money because we are not going to -- >> milestone communications is teaming up with

tonight. no word on what caused the crash. maryland's long time top prosecutor has a new job. the u.s. senate confirming rod rosenstein to be deputy u.s. attorney general. he served as u.s. attorney for maryland for more than a decade and he leaves behind a high profile corruption case in prince georges county. >> scott macfarlane asked him about the future of that case. >> reporter: he made major headlines a few weeks ago bringing a series of high profile corruption cases in prince georges county including charges against two county liquor board officials and two liquor business owners. those cases still pending. he also won a guilty plea from will campo to a federal bribery charge. another state delegate, michael von, pleaded not guilty. he faces possible trial. rosenstein is overseeing those

we have a warning about an illegal practice called slamming when utility customers are signed up with a third party supplier without their permission. consumer reporter susan hogan details what you need to know. >> many of you use third party suppliers for gas or electric. many promise savings while most of you willingly signed up we learned some of you may have been switched without your knowledge. slamming can happen by phone or from a knock at your door. >> i go who are they. >> reporter: or a mysterious charge just showed up on her gas bill. >> and when did i change because

signing a contract with them. >> reporter: she believes she is a victim of slamming. >> it is where you get signed up for a product or service that you did not contract for. >> reporter: how do you know you have been slammed? take a look at your utility and look who supplies your gas or electric. if it is a company you have never heard of before you may have been illegally switched. be careful what you share with door to door sales people. if they ask to see your utility bill refuse and never let them see your account number. >> they copy that down. they put it on a contract. somebody signs their name to the contract. >> reporter: beware of telemarketers who lead you to believe you are talking to your utility accompany. confirm who you are talking to. notify your energy supplier immediately if you receive a call or notice to verify a change

here. you can see shower activity into parts of the beltway into downtown. radar has a hard time picking up drizzle. that is what we are getting in many parts of the region. heads up if you are thinking about heading out. this storm heading up the coast. it will start to get on the back side. as it moves out it will start to take clouds away with it. a few showers here and there. cloud cover remaining through tomorrow morning. we could see fog. i'm not too worried about dense fog but there could be fog tomorrow morning. towards the pluridge you might see fog. as far as clearing you still have many clouds here. to the west we are seeing that clearing. temperatures warm up faster to the west. everybody sees the clearing by late in the afternoon. that is what we are waunge throughout the day tomorrow y. want to show you how the temperatures coincide with that as we move through the day

back where they are right now. tomorrow afternoon around 5:00, 60s to the north and east. 70s in the city. upper 70s to the west. d.c. i'm going for high of 73. clouds early. how about this ten day forecast? 84 on thursday. 83 on friday. a couple of great days. this weekend raeally tough forecast. we have a frontal boundary on saturday draped right across our region. if it is to the north ofl us we stay on the warmer side. we are not just in the 80s but 90s. if it drops to the south the cooler air comes with it and so do the clouds. where is this front? cooler with clouds just to the north. that is what we are watching and that is why we have cooler and cloudy conditions on sunday. i am going for a high of 72 with these back door fronts easily in the 60s on sunday. stay with us on this forecast. we'll continue to keep you posted.
