we're working with you this afternoon with which things to avoid. >> first at 4:00. a late night chase leads to concerns near a local school. >> i'm pat lawson mousse. >> fairfax county spent hours searching the park to comb the area just steps from the glasgow middle school. >> this is the same area where two bodies were found last month. our megan fitzgerald joins us live from the scene. what are they searching for out there now? >> reporter: they tell us they were searching for possible criminal activity but they didn't find anything. they tell us this all started last night when they saw two teens they thought they were smoking marijuana, they went to approach them. those teens took off into homes run park just behind us here. they looked for those teens, didn't find them, they returned back to the scene this morning. it was a startling

off for school. k-9 officers walking through the park. police finished their search of the area just before the school day ended. investigators say nothing was found but they're on a heightened sense of awareness. it was just last month that the officers found the remains of two people less than a mile away. now the principal did send home a letter to parents letting them know that police were searching the area but she ensured them that it had nothing to do with the middle school. back to you. >> thanks so much. a quick look now at some of the day's other top stories. the trump administration revealed the president's plans to simplify your taxes. there would be a three tax bracket instead of the current seven brackets with the highest of 35%. now the standard deduction would double for married couples to $24,000. charitable giving and mortgage interest would still be

deductible. the business tax rate would drop to 15% and the debt tax, that's going to end. fox news channel kelly wright has joined the lawsuit accusing the cable network of allowing racial discrimination during a news conference today wright seen there on your left said he could no longer sit in silence. the lawsuit now includes 13 former and current employees. fox is denying the accusations. >> the director of the movie silence of the lambs has died of cancer. jonathan demme won an oscar for that film. he was 73. >> hundreds of first responders and volunteers are taking part in emergency terror drills across our area today. six large scale drills happened in d.c., maryland and virginia. the goal is to help organize the response to a coordinated terror attack here in the national capitol re.

the unusual high volume of sick calls metro had for this coming up weekend. now the transit agency is bracing for a possible sick out. it's a bargaining chip whose locked in contract negotiations right now and our chris gordon got the union side today. here it is. >> reporter: we came here to the headquarters of transit union local 689 to ask if there is a planned sickout and how it will effect metro riders this weekend if there is one. >> we're not calling a sickout what members have done is abide by the rules and regulations that were set forth. their absenteeism policy requires that any one whose going sick callout three days ahead of time and that's what they did. >> reporter: so we should expect regular metro service this weekend as far as you know? >> as far as i know but i don't know how many people called out. >> reporter: metro

wearing jeans today, they could be part of a worldwide movement. april 26th is denim day. it's a chance to stand in solidarity with victims of sexual assault by wearing jeans. here's a look at a few tweets we've gotten today or tweets out there about the campaign and how people are using social media to take part today. the movement is in response to a case in italy 18 years ago, a court there overturned a rain conviction because the teenage victim wore tight jeans. the court said her parents were so tight the suspect probably couldn't take them off without her help and ruled the encounter must have been conessentialial. >> speaking of what to wear. want some impartial feedback on your wardrobe. you got to have pretty thick skin for this. echo is looking to do just that. it's a camera that sits in your closet, keeps track of your outfits and offers fashion advice based on algorithms and some new technologies. here's how it works. you use t

current and former students from dozens of historically black clengz and universities all over the country will rally on capitol hill tomorrow in what's being called a national day of action. troy johnson is here now to talk about talk around town today and your station we should say is affiliated with howard university so you know just how critical hbcus are. what is the goal of the day of action tomorrow, troy? >> the goal is to keep this on the radar of congress. keep these important schools on the radar of congress because they need funding, they need support and they're educating so many young people. the national center for education statistics says in 2014 more than 48,000 degrees were conferred by hbcu so a lot of people are ma trick lating through these schools and making very significant contributions to all aspects of our community. i spoke to tory today as a school librarian in maryland, she interacts with a variety of kids tha a

continue their education beyond high school and she tells me during many of those conversations she's able to open a lot of students eyes about possibilities that they may have never even thought of. >> i tell them about the spellman's and the hourds and i just let them know there's a vast amount of schools that they can go to that cater to our black and brown children. look at oprah, tennessee state university. hbcu. some of our children do not know that that's why it really dis heartens me when the funding for these institutions are not put forth like they should be. >> and jim, tory tells me that she's talked to folks about these kids about schools. they've only learned about hbcus through tv reruns. and hillman which doesn't exist chooses that as a way to start the conversation about real schools that they can attend when they get out of high school. >> still a tremendous impact all over the country. ma

talking about that oval office meeting between president trump and hbcu presidents earlier this year. this got a lose of buzz. >> it did. it left much to be desired from a lot of folks that i talked to because they were expecting much like these university presidents a much deeper conversation with president trump. they wanted to advocate for more financial support for students, increased access and funding from everything for federal search grants and facility upgrades and listeners are came away with nothing more than a photo op. he didn't authorize additional dollars. the meeting was essentially cut short with no solutions. a lot of people think that was an opportunity missed on both sides that's why this rally is happening tomorrow. >> beyoncé is celebrating the first anniversary "lemonade"

it's a multi-billion dollars industry with thousands of locations here in d.c. today hundreds of people crowded the halls of city council to weigh in on the future of home sharing websites like airbnb. >> they're popular here and all over the country as news4 mark segraves reports. the biggest question is how many nights a year can you rent out your home? >> reporter: it's been around for less than ten years but thousands of residents in d.c. are renting

places like airbnb. as of right now there's very little regulation of short-term rentals in d.c. the d.c. council is considering changing that by requiring homeowners to have a business license and commit the properties to health and safety inspections. and there would be a limit to the number of days per year you'd be allowed to rent your home. that's one of the most contentious issues that brought out so many people on both sides today. councilmember mcduffy proposed law would limit you to 15 days per year. airbnb officials want 180. >> there is a 15 day cap that we're looking at. we're flexible around that, maybe it should be 25 or 30 days or 60. >> reporter: the d.c. council is likely to raise that 15 day limit. we won't know how high they'll raise it to. until then the thousands of short-term rentals across the district will be able to operate as they have been for several

>> thanks wendy. >> chipotle can't seem to catch a break. >> no they can't as the burrito chain struggles to recover from an e. coli outbreak, there's news of a data breach now. susan hogan is working with you for what you need to know. >> if you have eating at chipotle and paid with a debit or credit card, you'll want to keep an eye on your account. it had detected a breach on a network that supports their payment processing for purchases. now the investigation is focused on trans actions made between march 24th and april 18th so fairly recently. chipotle says it believes it has taken the proper steps to stop these unauthorized activities. the company says it is still too early in the investigation to give any further information for us but chipotle's earnings as you know took a huge hit early last year after outbreaks of

we have some breaking news now. chopper 4 is live over this scene in montgomery county. police are searching for the person wanted for a robbery and shooting in silver spring. we don't have a lot of information about it right now. it's unclear if anyone has been hit but we do know shots were fired. police are searching this area behind mrs. kay's tollhouse. it's located off coalsville rootd. we're hearing that someone is being taken into custody. this is live in silver spring. we're going to keep an eye on this story. shots fired in this area. we'll bring you any new information when we know more. >> now a sobering new study showing drivers are taken prescription or illegal drugs and then getting behind the wheel. and now for the first time, drugged driving is causing more traffic deaths than drunk

driving. >> reporter: the numbers are sobering. they call it drugged driving and according to a study in 2015, drugs were present in 43% of fatally injured drivers. >> for the first time there are more dead drivers showing positive for drugs than for alcohol. >> reporter: while the study includes all category of drugs, both illegal and prescription, the numbers are especially concerning say experts in the 29 states and washington, d.c. where at least some form of marijuana is now legalized. mary gaston knows those statistics have real people attached to them. her son blake was killed in 2015 by a driver high on medical marijuana. the new study also found what many drugged drivers combining two or more substances the danger on the road may be more prevalent than ever. nearly a quarter of all adults admit to using marijuana. >> marijuana

area where they found two bodies buried last month. investigators spent hours at homes run park just steps away from a middle school. news4 megan fitzgerald is there this evening on what they are looking for. >> reporter: they're looking for evidence of criminal activity in the woods just behind us here. they didn't find anything, but you got to understand, as you mentioned, these officers have a heightened sense of awareness because of finding those human remains in that exact location just about a couple weeks ago. so of course you can understand why parents say they are very worried. >> it's concerning of course as any parent. >> reporter: the concern for parents and neighbors who live near glasgow middle school continues to grow. this morning k-9 units and officers searched this park just feet away from the school. investigators say on tuesday evening, they thought two teens were smoking marijuana. when they tried to question them, they ran through the park. so this
