>> not the first thing you want to smell. >> they smell bad. huge celebration at a church. >> in fact, news 4's derek ward is live at the first mountain baptist church with a look at how the congregation is now marking 150 years. this is a big deal, derek. >> reporter: indeed it is, century and a half, and this church has gone through some things. it was 1867 when this church was actually founded. two years after the end of the civil war. and started out as a proverbial little church in the wildwood. look at some pictures here. they've got a big program scheduled today. this church started with 22 founding members in a log cabin, actually, it was in the rock hill area of stafford county. now eventually they had a bigger church go, but there was growing pains. some factions back in 1873, a fire, but they survive. and this church that we're in front of now actually came to this location i

the newer structure was put up in 2001. now they're really big on celebrating this. senator warner, other officials and just folks who to make this church and observe the significance of light that's been here far century and a half. we spoke to the pastor, his name is luke tori, take a listen. >> and it's the one institution that has survived our community through all kinds of trials and tribulations. it stands as a beacon of light, beacon of hope. and a beacon of determination for us that we can accomplish so many things. something these folks are proud of. look at this parking lot. it's full already. the service actually doesn't start until 10:00, the people were so excited about this. and about the dignitaries that are coming today. they got here early and filled it up. it's going to be a big day here at this

there right at the capitol wheel in prince george's county. live view from the national harbor camera on this sunday morning. and as we take a look at storm team 4 radar, we are all dry here. don't have any showers anywhere around. so those clouds are not producing any rain anywhere. so, as we get into the rest of the morning hours though, the cloud cover breaking up and by noontime, we have to get the sun breaking out where we have the clouds now. and then during the afternoon, maybe a few showers popping up out of the mountains, these areas in green. thundershowers here in western maryland. allegheny, garrett county, then heads up into the pennsylvania mountains. and right around haguerstown, maybe a thundershower around 5:00 p.m. perhaps moving to northern maryland after that. but, the rest of the region stays dry for the rest of the afternoon. temperatures right now, mid-70s in washington, around the bay, it's already upper 70s, southern maryland and across north central virginia where it may be near 90 this afternoon. here in the metro area, we'll peek in the low 80s by 3:00. and then by 6:00 p.m.,

we did have some low clouds over the region. parts of virginia there. live camera overlooking the tollway. later today, with the dry weather, we'll still have the pollen in the high range for trees and grasses and mulch spores in the high range as well. look at the high temperatures this afternoon. wide variety, wide range from the 70s just to the north, low 80s in washington to upper 80s across parts of north central virginia near 80around the bay. look at rain and storm chances. coming up this half hour. >> all right, tom, thank you very much. now to this developing story out of texas where this morning it's just one of several states dealing with the aftermath of a major storm. storms hit hardest in east texas near dallas. take a look at some of the damage here. you see this home just absolutely ripped apart. authorities say at least five people have died. dozens of others injured. nbc's scott gordon spoke with a few people who lost their homes and farms in just a matter of minutes. >> firefighters raced from house to house

check on victims. >> where's your house? >> it's about a half mile down this road around this corner. >> reporter: desiree was with her family when it hit. >> we were all okay. >> reporter: you walked away from that. >> every last one of us walked away. but we have nothing left down there. >> reporter: she says five adults and two children huddled together as their house ripped apart around them. >> we're all sitting in the hallway and the roof collapsed on us. and by the time this was all over, we went outside, we had a three levels -- we had a three level house, we were down to the last level and half of that roof was gone. >> it's crazy. >> reporter: william was with his two-year-old daughter. >> sucked the house right off on top of us. the roof and everything collapsed on us. me and a buddy shielded the kids with the roof. >> reporter: mother nature made rescue work a challenge. >> supposed to be another one touching down up the road from here. but i don't know. >> very traumatic. i never went through anything like this. >> reporter: two campers, two brand new vehicles.

and the whole house, barn, and all the animals are gone. >> reporter: everything gone, yet they somehow walked away from all of this. >> very, very fortunate there. now, that was nbc's scott gordon reporting. as we move on into missouri and oklahoma, this was the scene there. this is the place where that the governor both declared states of emergency in fact. this video shot in the tulsa area where the storms dropped five inches of rain knocking out power and turning roads into rivers. as many as nearly 80,000 people lost power in the area due to the storms. then moving over to missouri, rainfall totals ranged from three to nine inches here. the state highway patrol says that a 72-year-old woman drowned after her car was swept away by rushing waters yesterday. her husband there was and did everything in his power to try to save her, but he couldn't. state officials say there have been nearly 100 evacuations and nearly three dozen rescues. officials in joplin did at least seven w

hour. meanwhile, a training exercise turned into a real life rescue near fredericksburg this weekend. stafford fire county and rescue united pulled two people in distress out of the river yesterday. this all happened near locks island. a third person was pulled out of the water by someone nearby. in total, crews there helped six people to safety. and we have an update to a story at a county that we've been following. according to to the news partner, the wtop, the sheriff's office says this man, james harley jr. turned himself in yesterday afternoon after his wiefs killed. demts say they responded to the couples home on raw hide road friday night. when they got there, they found that his wife was shot. deputies believe harley jr. shot her and then left. and a ground search for that escaped howard county prisoner has now been suspended. this is new photos here of david watson. police say they will now follow leads in the county in delaware after they exhau

watson was serving time for attempted murder. he escaped friday afternoon as he was being transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation if you do spot him, you're asked to call 911. another story we've been following up on, we've learned the name of the man killed in a germantown shooting. montgomery county police telling us that the man was among four people shot. this happened around 1:00 in the morning yesterday at a home on kitchen house way. the other victims are expected to survive. crime solvers is offering a reward of up to ten grand for information that leads to an arrest. johnson was just 19 years old. got to listen to this next story, and it's new this morning. maryland's board of elections exposed the social security numbers of nearly 600,000 voters. that's according to a legislative audit nap leaves those voters vulnerable to potential hacking and the risk of identity theft. a report also criticized the board's handling of balanced security, disaster

and busy couple months ahead. well we're about to show you cell phone video. it appears to show a delta airlines pilot hitting a woman. the video was first posted by tmz. korlgt to the washington post, three women there, they got into a scuffle after a flight to atlanta last week. one of the women apparently wrapped another woman in a choke hold. that's when the pilot said he tried to step in. you can see at one point where the pilot is there and he starts hitting one of the women's hands right there. so at this point though, no one, none of the women or pilots have been charged in the incident. a lot of questions. >> absolutely. many of you have helped get the word out of missing kids in the region by sharing your posts or our posts on social media. and during the month of may, there is another way to bring attention to them. the national center for missing and exploited children is bringing back it's rock one sock campaign. all you have to do, wear one sock. take a photo, post it on
