parkway. a brand-new crash there. no new details. we do know we have that crash there this morning. also a problem in gaithersburg. we just got all of the phone with montgomery county police just a minute ago there, headed outbound that way. we'll let you know what's going on there. innerlooper and outer loop of the beltway, no major problems, shady grove road, a crash there. 29 at dumfries road, again, delays hanging around. and a problem on 270 southbound there at 80. american university police say this person is responsible for this week's hate crime that has left students disgusted and disturbed. >> campus police say monday morning that suspect hung three bananas o

news4's justin finch is live with more on the investigation and the action that students are taking today. justin. >> reporter: aaron, good morning, we know that members of black student groups are meeting with university leaders. and a rally is set for 4:00 this afternoon. all as campus police are hoping that someone recognizes a person of interest caught on surveillance camera. now, take a look at the video. it is dark and blurry here. but notice how this person walks. how they move. these are all small details that could help campus police identify. now that person in dark clothing hung three nooses and bananas overnight monday. bananas with aka written on them, thought to be a reference to alpha cappa kal kappa. now on tuesday, students walked out of the town hall held on the incident. they are demanding the

this from ever happening again on their campus. back out live, we do know a $1,000 reward is being offered for tips in this investigation. back to you. >> justin finch at american university. justin, thank you. developing this morning. a student with access to guns has made a threat towards dominion high school in sterling. the loudoun county sheriff's office wants to assure parents that the threat was not legitimate. the threat was made on social media. and found the student responsible and removed the guns from the home. the sheriff's office said the weapons belonged to a relative. comic book conventions are popular but loudoun county police office said those are the places that a man in maryland is trying to meet teenage girl. they about sured the man of soliciting an ashburn girl back in march. detectives said he contacted the teen and gave her

they say he's been to at least seven cities around the country. and has been posing as someone in his early 20s. they want to know if he pursued any other teens here at home or around the country. now breaking news in suitland. let's check in with angie goff at the live desk. >> a reward is being announced for any information at a gas station. this is where police in the 4700 block at silver hill rode. shortly after they arrived officers found a man in the car, he'd been shot in the chest. they still are trying to figure out who did this and why. if they have any information, please call police. we'll continue to follow up. eun, back to you. it was a terrible scene at a house that caught fire in montgomery koungcounty. it's not clear if anyone will be able to go back home. this is south in rockville. take a look at

area. montgomery county ems said there are hoarding conditions in the house. not saying how the fire started. overnight, we learned that an infants and a child were two of the children hurt in a crash in germantown. great seneca highway. montgomery county rescue took six people to the hospital after multiple vehicles collided here. that road is back open this morning but investigators are trying to figure out what caused that crash. she crashed into a police chief's cruiser today she'll face him in fairfax county court on drunk driving charges. christie edgar is from florida expected to enter a plea. she's charged with driving drunk while she rear ended a chief's police car. the chief suffered minor injuries there but he told us at the time that he was, quote, mad as heck and grateful that he was wearing his seat

the new police chief in washington. . he has been serving as exacting chief since kathy lcathy lanier for the nfl in august. a spending plan by congressional leaders over the weekend will keep the government funded through september. it's expected to get through cross party lines. more on it at 6:45. oh, so close. the wizards almost won there towards the end of regulation. they can't get it done in overtime. game three is here in d.c. tomorrow, hoping a home court advantage will help them win. the capitals have a chance to even up their series against the penguins tonight. they're playing in pittsburgh. remember, they were also down 2-0, but they just won game

>> i can't believe somebody would burn down a house because they're mad about something. especially a house they don't even own. >> after the bedroom was lit on fire, court documents say she walked out the front door with lighter fluid. the roommate alerted others and they ran out to safety. she's facing arson. a police officer who shot and killed a teenager over the weekend has been fired. the officer shot jordan edwards saturday night while he was riding in front seat of a car leaving a house party. the police chief allegedly said that the car edwards was in was reversing in, quote, an aggressive manner. he later reversed himself and said body camera video shows that the car was driving away. >> i can tell you i do have questions in relation to my observation on the videos. and what is specific with the

police department. >> chief said the video will not be released at this time. new unsealed documents say a former fbi agent married an isis recruiter. that story was reported by cnn and "usa today." the report says daniela green was a translator with top secret security clearance. she was investigating a german member 6 isis and then nell love with him. she flew to syria to marry him three years ago but came back to the united states and was arrested. today marks ten years since a british 3-year-old girl disappeared while on vacation with her parents. madelieine mccann was missing i portugal in 2007. detectives say they're following critical new leads to help solve the mysteries. there have been hundreds of alleged sightings. the alleged investigation has already cost more than $14 million. her parents say

silver hill in suitland. police got the call that someone killed a man there. he died at the scene. no word on a suspect at this time. today, students at american university will hold a rally to condemn this week's hate crimes. this was the scene yesterday as hundreds marched demanding the university do more. monday, somebody tied bananas to nooses and hung them around campuses. aka is written on bananas. that is a sorority founded by black women. coming up surveillance video of the suspect. >> the wizards are down 2-0 in the playoff series against boston. they lost last night. the game went into overtime. but they had a chance at the end regulation and couldn't score. game three is tomorrow. the graffiti may be gone from several national monuments but the case to find who did it far from over. >> news4's erika gonzalez is tell u

that police are offering to try to help. good morning. >> reporter: hi, aaron, good morning to you. this beautiful sunrise to us behind us at the national mall. it's incredible to believe that somebody would deface these iconic pieces of history. if these cases sounded all too many to you, vandalism to our monuments because we initially covered it in february. after months of nothing, now, finally, a break in the case. the u.s. park police released just a couple of photos of somebody they want to talk to. it was presidents' day weekend that there was vandalism found at the lincoln memorial, where we are this morning. the washington monument. the world war ii memorial. and the d.c. war memorial. it was some type of a permanent marker. with some very cryptic messaging at these monuments and even a few other locations. after that, they had to go through and target those spots with special treatments to remove all of that. the graffiti is gone now. but folks that we're

sex. he contacted the teen and gave her transportation to meet him in baltimore. they say he has visited at least seven teens around the country and want to faux whethknow whet pursued any other teens. breaking news right now. in the last ten minutes we learned what caused this fire at a home in rockville. montgomery county said it was probably an accident. they did not say whether hoarding conditions made this worse. it happened in rockville. we had chopper 4 fly over the scene there. we see a lot of debris on the ground. according to firefighters, two people are not displaced here. it's unclear when they'll be able to go back home. louisiana attorney general will now decide to pursue charges against a police officer who shot and killed alton sterling. >> investigators will not be charged here. angie goff has more. >> alton sterling was

cds outside of a store in baton rouge last summer. police say he fit a description of another individual who threatened an officer with a gun. officers tackle him and accused of shooting him on the ground there. at a vigil last night, families there stay they're still haunted by that video. >> and we're still suffering like it happened yesterday. we need closure. we feed a conviction. we need justice. >> and this is the first time the justice department and the attorney general jeff sessions has declined to prosecute an officer for possible wrongdoing in a high-profile case. you're sitting in traffic and then you see this scene. it's a dramatic plane crash that narrowly missed drivers before a fiery explosion. what went wrong,

to talk about and take a look at the travel time, coming up. thank you. imagine seeing this scene as you're sitting in traffic. look at that. the small plane clipped hour lines and rained fuel on to cars as it plummeted into the ground in washington state yesterday. authorities say the pilot had just taken off at a nearby airport when a plane suddenly lost power. >> wow. neither the pilot nor anyone on the ground was hurt in the crash. the crash did cause a huge traffic backup and knock out power for 9,000 homes. unbelievable that anyone survived. 6:42 now. trump versus clinton. it is the rivalry that continues well after the election. the new social media attack that is adding fuel to the fire. >> reporter: a series of meetings and rallies were planned days after a racist incident on the campus of american university.

information is available. but police say they are offering a reward for information in the case. we'll keep you posted, eun. >> thank you, angie. metro is facing a new lawsuit from five former track inspectors. they're challenging metro's claims that workers falsified track inspection reports. our news partners at wtop were first to report this lawsuit. the inspector called metro's findings fraudulent. many times they reported the track problems but maintenance was never scheduled. more than a dozen were fired following a derailment last july. the town hall meeting will be held in the hospital's auditorium on irving street at 7:00. va representatives will be there. earlier this month, an inspector general report found dangerous conditions at

supplies. a funeral service is battling the department of veterans affairs for unburied veterans. >> jody fleischer spent weeks digging through tape. >> reporter: when a veteran dies without any next of kin or someone to pay for the burial, the department of veterans a fairs is supposed to step in to help. back in 2015, washington, d.c.'s va medical center asked roger and christina mason to bury veterans who died and were unclaimed. since then, they arranged for the burial of eight veterans. and they continue 0 do so even after the va failed to pay the bills. >> i would do it knowing i wasn't getting paid for it. i wouldn't expect anything. but don't tell me we're in a business deal, and then you don't hold up your end of the deal? that's different. >> reporter: after weeks of calling multiple departments, the i-team finally got an
