thank you. breaking overnight, a suicide car bomber struck a u.s. military convoy in afghanistan. it killed at least eight civilians and injured three american service members. it happened near the u.s. embassy in kabul. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack. there are shock waves this morning. new developments tied to a number of police involved shootings. let's begin in baton rouge, louisiana where the justice department decided it will not bring charges against two white police officers who shot and killed an african american man back in july. nbc's gabe gutierrez is outside the convenience store where the shooting took place. gabe, good morning. >> reporter: matt, good morning. this city has been bracing for the justice department's decision for days and lawyers for the family of alton sterling thought they'd be the first to know, but they say they have net to be notified.

the word leaked out that emotional outrage was immediate. the news spread quickly overnight. that no charges would be filled against the two police officers who shot alton sterling. through the night protesters holding an emotion value vigil. >> it's been almost a year and we're still suffer like it happened yesterday. >> reporter: last july police went to the store after a 9-1-1 caller told them someone matching his description pulled a gun. on the video the officers are scene wrestling sterling to the ground and holding him down. what happened before the graphic recording of the shooting is unknown. >> shoots fired. >> reporter: an officer can be seen pulling something from his pocket. police say it was a gun and sterling was reaching for it. i spoke to the owner of the store. did you see mr.t

for that gun or threaten the officers with the gun? >> no. no. >> reporter: for days after the shooting protesters filled the streets. dozens of arrests were made. almost immediately the justice department opened a civil rights investigation. now sources tell nba news, they concluded there isn't enough evidence to bring charges but sterling's sister said the officers should be arrested. >> the it's not okay with me. because now you all are going to let these two officers walk, and that's the end of it. i guaranteed you if i shot somebody and they didn't even point the gun at me or anything of that sort, i'd be in jail. so why are they [ bleep ] not in jail? >> reporter: city officials are now pleading for calm. there were a few peaceful protesters around the convenience store overnight. the state could still bring charges against the two officers but that decision would be up to louisiana's attorney general. gabe, thank

now to texas where police have fired the officer who shot and killed a 15-year-old boy as he was leaving a party. they say he violated several department policies in the shooting death of jordan edwards. the teenager was killed on saturday night when oliver filed multiple spots. police say the car was driving aggressively toward the officer, but officials changed it after viewing body camera video that showed the car driving away from police. his family is calling for criminal charges against the officer. in south carolina a plea deal for the officer charged in the shooting death of an unarmed motori motorist michael slager pleaded guilty to violating the civil rights of walter scott. slager's murder trial ended last december in a hung jury. as part of the deal the state of south carolina will not file new

i got my first record deal. i wasn't really prepared to become a song writer. but as time went on, you know, the more that you're creating, painting is creating, the more you become open to ideas. they just kind of come into you. and there's a song on the new record called easy targets. and i was painting, and the this voice goes john, you might want to put your paint brush down and write these words down, and i went no, i don't want to. i kept painting. finally the voice got the best of me. i walked to my phone. i sang the song into my phone. i put it back down, and then found it a couple days later and go when did i write that? >> so lost in the painting world that you just bang out another album. i love it. >> on your tour you're in outdoor venues? >> right. >> thank you for coming i

>> no dieting. >> charlene. what's your catalyst for getting involved? >> i have a two-year-old. i want to have enough energy to keep up, and i want to ride my motorcycle across country. >> wow. >> look at your stats. you're 52 and 277 pounds. you're doing both. >> yes. >> all right. now we can jump in. >> now i'm going to put the lovely ladies on the diet plan. they follow the drop ten diet plan. it's online. the idea is the it's a mix and match plan. it's versatile, and all of the meals are forulated so they have the perfect balance of lean protein and high quality starch and healthy fats. the weight will fall off. these are just two sample days. one day could be this is

>> i think it's doable. >> reuben and obi, let's get to the work out. >> reuben and charlene, we're going to have them exercising about four to five days a week. what's great about the exercises, you can do them in your home. all you need is a pair of dumbbells and maybe a chair. we're going to show you a couple quick exercises. we'll start off monday, wednesday, and friday are boot camp card owe moves. the first move is high knees. simple. and i want reuben and charlene to do them with me. you can check it out. high knees is simple. move your feet like this. and if you have bad knees, you don't have to move your knees up that high. use your arms. and make sure you're upright. about 15 seconds, second move is basically jumping over a towel. grab a towel.

>> okay. you're going to stand next to the towel. use your arms and just like this. jump over. just like that. it's a good boot camp card owe move on monday, wednesday, friday. simple. 15 seconds. small little jump. all right? that's another move. now we're going to do strength training exercises tuesday and thursday first exercise we're going to do, shoulder dumbbell press. grab the dumbbells. work the shoulders, tone the arms. left foot forward, right leg behind. come over your head just like that. >> we're out of time, but the it on today.com? >> absolutely. 30 minutes a day, four to five days a week. >> and we get a body like yours? >> it will take time. i can't make big promises now. >> if they survive week one,
