i'm yasmin vossoughian. frances has the morning off. it was a feat republicans promised for over seven years, and this morning they are a step closer to making the repeal of obamacare reality after their plan passed in the house giving president trump a major lnltive accomplishment. more than a few republicans say the celebration could be premature. kristen welker has more. >> reporter: president trump taking a victory lap. >> this is a repeal and replace of obamacare. make no mistake about it. >> reporter: it's only a first step, but mr. trump turned it into a made-for-tv celebration flanked by republicans in the rose garden. >> how am i doing? i'm president. hey, i'm president. do you believe it. right. i don't know. i thought you needed a little more time they always told me. more time. but we didn't. >> reporter: the event came after a dramatic vote in the house that went down

pre-existing conditions, $8 billion will help pay for increased cost. the controversial medicaid expansion which would be frozen immediately. instead, each state will get a fixed amount of money to help pay for lower income americans. >> under this plan the winners are younger, healthier and higher income people. the losers are those who are lower income, have pre-existing conditions and older americans. >> reporter: the gop vowed to overhaul obamacare for seven years. >> we did not have quite the votes to replace this. >> reporter: since then republican lawmakers faced fierce backlash from angry constituents at home. the president one step closer making good on the pledge that helped sweep him into office. >> thank you to kristin for that report. the president took his victory lap from washington to new york visiting sirs he was in office.

disengagement from the world. voters in france are ang anxiously awaiting sunday's election which could make or break the european union. macron and ma lean le pen duke it out with less than 48 hours before the polls open. with insults, allegations of fake news and even a hacking arrest dominating the last hours of that campaign. we are joined with matt live. in the la days what is the feeling there? >> reporter: this isn't just the last days, these are the last hours of the campaign by midnight tonight the candidates are supposed to stop campaigning formally ahead of that vote on sunday. this isn't necessarily supposed to be a particularly close vote. all of the polls roo it now have emmanuel macron, he is the centrist candidate, beating far right populist candidate

le pen by about 20%. but we know that some of these populist votes as we've seen in brexit and with donald trump have a tendency to surprise. that's not the only thing about this campaign that is saturdaying to look a little bit american. barack obama yesterday obviously the former u.s. president, actually weighed in at the request of the macron campaign and endorsed him saying that macron is -- had been standing up for liberal values and he admired his campaign. again, the comparisons keep on going. there has been protests, bitterness and boisterousness that reminded a lot of french of the american campaign that happened just last year. these hacking alerts now, macron has submitted a complaint to the prosecutors oofs demanding investigation into fake news. walking around in mar sales, a divided city people are angry at both. they say that marine le pen is racist, that macron is too elitist, too close to banker
