lawsuit claims the school didn't do enough to support victims. and lester holt's exclusive interview with president trump. >> i know that i'm not under investigation. >> tonight virginia senator's tim cane's reaction. >> president trump fired this guy because the drag net is closing in on the russia investigation. and good evening. howard university is in the hot seat after five students accused the school of mishandling rape cases. >> one student says the school employee raped at least two girls and remained on campus as a resident assistant. jackie bensen is talking to the lawyer involved in this lawsuit. >> reporter: this lawsuit stems from a series of events that brought this campus to a boil last year. >> no means no. >> reporter: this was the scene in march of 2016. hundreds of howard university students gathered in front

students claim they were sexually assaulted by a male resident adviser. they marched to the administration building demanding justice. >> this is about the university obligation to make sure young women and the same opportunity to pursue their education and all of the benefits available to them on a college campus that any male student would have. >> reporter: attorney is representing jajane does one through five in lawsuit that claims howard university failed. the suit alleges numerous violations of federal law and includes allegation that male resident adviser was allowed to remain on the job for weeks. took to twitter about her assault saying you

>> these young women came to us after making lots of efforts on their own and with advocates trying to help them. >> reporter: in an e-mail a howard spokesperson told news 4 the university could not comment but the statement did say the university has been and remains committed to investigating any such allegations to ensure safe and health community to our faculty, staff and school. you can read the entire statement by downloading our nbc washington app. jackie bensen, news 4. authorities across virginia are looking for an abducted 8-month-old baby girl. take a look at chloe johnson. she was snatched on april 30. an amber alert has been issued. chloe was with her mother kier johns johnson. johnson is missing, as well, and police believe she may have been kidnapped, too. the pair may be in johnson's care, a 2013

with a virginia plate. turning to our soggy weather now rain that is moving out after a very wet day. >> friday not looking as bad but folks we are not done with this pattern yet. are we? >> we are really not. you notice the shower activity on the radar. we saw a lot of rain today. really over the past week we have seen close to three inches. take a look how much rain we saw just today. over an inch of rain. towards dulles close to two inches of rain. almost an inch and a half around the hudson river area. you can see most of it out of here. still seeing some shower activity especially towards bull baltimore. the wider picture showing a monster of a storm to our west. this one will make its way our way. it will move back in with more heavy rain tomorrow afternoon. i will show you how long it sticks around and how it effects

your weekend. >> a middle school is the site of the latest hate based racial incident. a teacher found a noose hanging from a light in the court yard this morning. surveillance video captured the suspects believed to be involved. police say they want the public's help. the school district believes the suspects used pallets to create a ladder. the incident had a lot of people on campus talking. >> some students were texting their parents to make them aware of it and parents were calling the school. >> we are hoping students realize the severity of the incidents and they have impact on the members of our community. >> reporter: the principal spoke with students about the issue and the school sent out letters to the parents reading this snint is clearly disturbing on many levels and it appears to have no connection to our instructional day or unit our students are studying we cannot

conveys. the school is providing resources to any student or adult who needs them. leon harris, news 4. thank you. the u.s. attorney's office in d.c. is joining the investigation into a hate crime an american university after someone hung bananas from nooses on that campus last week. this comes as the school announces plans for a new anti-racism center. the university hired dr. kendy to lead the research and policy center. he will come this fall. he is considered an expert on campus activism surrounding black issues. president trump was going to fire fbi director james comey regardless of recommendations from his top two men at the justice department. that revelation tonight in an nbc news exclusive interview. the president telling lester holt the firing had nothing to do with the russia investigation and

tomorrow morning on the "today" show. developing tonight, new twists on the fbi raid at a republican political consulting firm. the president of strategic campaign group says the investigation is connected to a lawsuit filed after the race for virginia governor back in 2013. former virginia attorney general sued the firm after he lost that race. he claimed the company and a political action committee raised more than $2 million from donors but only gave his campaign about 10,000. the lawsuit was eventually settled. tonight marks one year since the double murder that is still unsolved. now the family of one victim is asking for fresh leads. shomari stone with more from a mother and grandmother looking for answers. >> it's been one

loss of my son as well as his friend. >> lisa carpenter is still grieving a year after her son was shot and killed in district heights. >> over the last year i have been thinking a lot. >> reporter: prince georges county police passed out flyers telling people there is a reward up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. investigators say someone gunned down he and his friend during an attempted robbery on the 6400 block of gateway boulevard. investigators believe they were targeted. >> two young men were shot and killed. so it's definitely we would like to be able to bring closure to these families. >> samuel was a good person. >> reporter: stella page is samuel's grandmother. >> he had a

forgiving heart. >> reporter: and now her heart is broken while police continue to investigate. >> we would like to ask anyone who has any information to come forward. >> reporter: in district heights, maryland, shomari stone, news 4. a teenager driven by rage over the murder of her boyfriend helped torture and kill a girl she blamed for that man's death. that is the case prosecutors laid out today in a virginia courtroom. 17-year-old venus romero faces adult charges. the fbi testified that venus was the chief attacker of 15-year-old alexandra revis stabbing her 13 times. fairfax county police found her body in february. venus's boyfriend's body was found a month earlier along the potomac. homes held hostage. the loopholes in the law that is helping to drive up housing prices for all of us.

district posts online after sellers give notice. >> i knock on doors and try to meet every tenant in every property where there is a topa notice. >> almost like ambulance chasing. >> reporter: real estate attorney says it has gotten so bad some title insurance companies won't let you close without a topa waiver from every tenant who lived in the building going back a whole year just in case a topa chaser finds them. >> they learned they didn't get their topa rights and come to the lawyer and say what can i get out of it? >> reporter: to complicate it more the district law doesn't define tenant as being on the lease or paying rent. you just have to have stayed there. >> my view of the law is tenant is anything short of trespasser. >> reporter: his view of the law has d.c. association of realtors questioning how it is being used. >> extortion, caught it what you will. i think people are taking advantage who might not be

reeng region. not a lot tonight. that is the same deal early tomorrow. most of your friday will be on the drier side. 53 degrees. winds out of the northeast at 5 miles per hour. the winds are up there upwards of 10 to 20 miles per hour tomorrow. that will make things feel cooler with all of the clouds tomorrow. down to 46 winchester. 51 cull pepper. it is on the cool side for sure at least for this time of year. as we move towards the west here is the rain we saw today. look what is happening back here. this is a monster of a storm. it really is close to 150 severe weather reports including tornado reports out of oklahoma. we were live at one point with this camera shot of a severe thunderstorm. this severe thunderstorm did have a tornado warning associated with it a little bit earlier. we did have some damage in and around portions of oebklahoma. high winds over 70 miles per hour. so that same system is moving

severe weather from it. we are going to see the rain. it is going to move right along that same boundary. so tomorrow good news. i think we get some clearing overnight into tomorrow morning. the clouds are here most of the day once again. can't rule out drizzle or showers. around 7:00 the rain starts to move back in. i think even the rush tomorrow evening should be okay. the rain moves in. 11:00 tomorrow night. by 5:00 heavy rain across the area. it lasts through about 11:00 and noon before finally pushing out of here by 3:00 most of us are on the drier side of things. rather cool and rather breezy. tomorrow 56. cloudy and cool. huge showers possible. not too many. look what happens on mother's day. 73 degrees. nice and breezy. temperature around 73 degrees. and then look at this. 70s, 80s and a 90 degree day. we have that warmer weather coming in. this pattern
