criminal division and judge michael garcia of the court of appeals. meanwhile, democrats want general rosenstein to resign if he does not appoint someone to investigate the trump ties and his connections to russia. james comey denied the chance to publicly appear before the senate intelligence committee next week. he does expect comey to brief the committee in private. president trump is delivering his first commencement speech at liberty university today. the president is scheduled to arrive in lynchburg after 9:00 this morning for the ceremony to begin at 10:00. the christian school's president was among some of his biggest supporters. he'll speak at the coast guard academy graduation in new london, connecticut, next week. and tomorrow on "meet the

the firing of james comey and what it means for the future of the fbi and the russian investigation. and he'll also speak to senator lindsey graham and senator minority leader chuck schumer. this story is unsettling, the u.s. department of security is warning american companies to be on guard against a deeply invasive cyber attack. nearly 100 countries and thousands of computers got hit by the orchestrated attack. yesterday a virus locked computers and displayed a message on screen demanding money. in europe the attack affected british hospitals and the shipping company fedex. it is not clear who is behind it, but when it threatens health care, it makes a lot of us uneasy. in the next half hour, we look into how the virus targeted the hospitals. anguish family members want to know where kenneth kelly is right now. yesterday he didn't show up to his sentencing for a dui crash that killed five people in

monitor was removed sometime last week, but it's still not clear why that happened. kelly was behind the wheel when he was in a car accident. four people in the car also died. the family is furious. >> he took away five lives, five. i'm not sure why the judge released him in the first place. he shouldn't be out on the street. >> the judge initially released kelly on a $100,000 bond after a guilty plea. the state attorney's office did argue to keep him behind bars. an update to a story that caused anger and hurt in anne arundel county. they have caught the two who placed a noose at the middle school. conner

middle school. on thursday a tuesday spotted a noose hanging from a light fixture. however, no hate crime charges have yet been filed. if you're in the district tonight, look up to see thousands of candles illuminating the sky along the national mall. the lights will burn in memory of law enforcement officer who is die in the line of duty. the names of 394 officers will be read aloud tonight. 143 of them gave the ultimate sacrifice in 2016. while the other officers died previously but were never honored. it also includes those who died after rescue and recovery work after 9/11. u.s. attorney general jeff sessions and homeland security secretary john kelly will be there to give remarks. a

look at the first4 traffic. downtown, first of all, we have graduations happening. so we'll have extra traffic and maybe parking may be a bit tighter than normal. american university, howard university and also catholic graduating this weekend. so a little warning for you there. on this sunday, the d.c. police bike ride, the street will be shut down from 6:30 to 12:15 there in the ohio drive area. that's where it starts there in southwest washington. now, the road closures start at midnight on sunday and last until 7:00 p.m. constitution avenue from third to seventh. pennsylvania from third to seventh. and fourth street from independence avenue southwest to constitution avenue northwest. you can get a full list on the nbc washington app. see you after the weekend. you'll have to pay more to ride metro. it will cost

the residents had them move out and more money had to be raised to finish the job. >> the organization was started by a homeless female veteran. and she found that it was difficult for the female veterans to get the housing they need, particularly if they had children. >> we are currently the fastest growing homeless population in america. but this is unique over the homeless population because over 70% of the homeless population have children. so we are accommodating for the woman and her child. and this is what this house does. and until we are back up and running, we can't help them when they can't get help anywhere else. this house can accommodate ten veteran women and their children for a period of two years. in addition to housing, they are getting year-round services like education, resources of employment support, food and clothing. >> if you would like more information on the final salute, sear

>> and that was nbc's stefan holt reporting. the list of companies affected by the ransom wear include fedex. and the spokes person for the russian interior ministry says about 1,000 of its computers were hit. but the servers were blocked. it's 6:33. in just about two weeks, we can learn more about a new ban that would prevent you from bringing your laptop on your next flight to europe. that is according to the department of homeland security. the officials want to prevent passengers from bringing electronic devices larger than a cell phone on flights. the intelligence reports suggest terrorists have found a way to conceal explosives in electronics. a similar ban has been in place since march on flights coming to the u.s. from airports in the middle east as well as north africa. only on 4, this morning we're getting new insight into how ms-13 gang members are operating in our suburbs, including how they lured and killed a teen last year. this all comes

unfueled federal indictment which charges nine people. here's how it played out. you may remember this scene from june of last year, local and federal law enforcement moving in on this leesburg home. in the middle of the night, neighbors recorded several people with their hands on their head walking out. at the time, we saw gang unit investigators on scene get so many questions remaining unanswered until now. >> they told us it is really safe around here, it's a nice area, but you just never know. >> reporter: two-and-a-half weeks before that house raid, the family reported 18-year-old carlos otero rodriguez missing. this recently unfueled indictment charges nine people with his disappearance. they believe ms13 leaders found pictures of carlos showing rival gang members on facebook. on may 21st last year, they lured him into an suv telling him they were going to a party. but they kept driving, all the way to harpers

virginia. it's there the indictment says the gang members attacked and killed carlos. according to the indictment, after those involved in carlos' death, they left harpers ferry and came back to this home in leesburg. it is here according to federal investigators they burned the clothing and all evidence that may be linked to the crime. >> i would say in the last two to three years, it has started to climb, most noticeably in the last 18 months. >> reporter: while carlos' case is being handled at the federal level, the commonwealth attorney is seeing plenty of his own gang cases. among them? the killing of this 17-year-old who was shot several times in november 2015 at a school bus stop in sterling. this also happened in ashburn, two people stabbed and one of them, the 22-year-old, died. much of the gang activity is happening in public areas. >> it's happening in wooded areas, in aar

nasa's orion spacecraft is meant to take you farther into space than ever before. but for the first launch of the new big rocket, no humans will be on board for the deep space mission. yesterday nasa posted a statement declining the trump administration's request to send a flight crew on the first launch. nasa says it would add hundreds of millions to the cost and delay the launch until the first half of 2020. and there is new federal sentencing guidelines for drug cases from the justice department. attorney general jeff sessions is telling federal prosecutors to charge suspects with the most serious offense that they can prove. under formal attorney general eric holder, prosecutors were expected to see less serious charges if the defendant wasn't in charge of a large drug cartel gang. and they are telling all prosecutors that this could impact their sentence. in washington, the
