days. that's in just a few minutes. >> tom, we'll stick around. while you were sleeping, dozens of firefighters worked to put out the flames from a fire in springfield. >> but location of this fire, it's about location. it's very unusual. news 4's derek ward joins us now live from the scene with details, hi darin. >> reporter: good morning, how are you? well of course this is something you don't necessarily see every day. a fire at a fire house. that's exactly what happened here at station 26. we're a carolina place just off of the road in fairfax county. and you see what they believe is the cause of this fire. yeah, it was a serious fire. it actually went to two alarms. take a look, this is a scene shortly after it was reported. you can see that piece of equipment where the fire is believed to have started is pretty much

it's the change for many of them because the 20 mile route they're taking is completely car-free. >> amy cho is live at the finish line this time with a look at how cycling is actually inspiring some teenagers in the area. hi amy. >> reporter: hey guys, good morning, that's right, we are at the finish line where the bikers should be showing up in just a few minutes from now. they're wrapping up a 20 mile bike ride through d.c. 6,000 riders out here today. now some of those riders are part of a very special group called gearing up bicycles. now this is a group of local kids who actually built the bicycles they're riding today and they also got scholarships to be here. so we caught up with some of them earlier this morning and asked them what this day means to them. >> thinking about all the supportive gotten over the time and the people. >> it feels really

also new, 29% of americans approve of trump's decision to fire fbi director james comey, 38% disapprove of that decision. and looking into the russia investigation, overwhelming 78% would back an independent commission or special prosecutor to look into those claims. health care also a big topic here. and by a 2-1 margin of 48% say that the gop plan that passed the house was a bad idea. the poll surveyed 800 adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. as far as the future of the fbi is concerned, sources tell nbc news that the department of

welcome back, united airlines is taking measures to protect the locked cockpit doors on it's planes. the airline says door access information for the cockpit may have been made public. united is not saying how that information got out, but says this was not a breach like a hack. the airline says it's taking security steps to make sure customers and the crew stay safe. well france now has a new leader this morning. 39-year-old emanuel

camera, this is looking off to the north into montgomery county. just a gorgeous morning, just a few clouds building. in fact, those clouds were fog, oh a couple hours ago. and then they just lifted up and became clouds, all that moisture lifting up into the sky as the heat hit the surface and right now, we have up all the way to near 60 degrees from where we were in the 40s just a couple of hours ago. so a rapid warming under way, reagan national is at 56, we had a few of the showers racing on through morning, they're now all gone. here's your mother's day planner, temperatures will be hovering near 60 here for another hour or so, then noontime, low 70s, and then by 3:00, upper 70s near 80 degrees, briefly. by mid to late afternoon. with lots of sunshine. maybe just a few wispy high clouds coming through. the big story this afternoon and the warmth and sunshine, the winds, they could be gusting up to 30 miles an hour during the latter part of the afternoon. then for the morning commute tomorrow, you'll be battling the sun, dng

officials say the train slammed into a three story house when it derailed. at least three of the people hurt are in serious condition. we are starting to get new information concerning that global ransom ware attack. the european union's law enforcement agency now says that that attack hit more than 100,000 organizations across 150 countries. meanwhile, 22-year-old in britain is being credited with stopping that ransom ware. the mall ware tech is not being named at this point, but he tells nbc news that he noticed a software consistently pinging in unregistered web domain. so whoo what he did, he bought the wekz's url for $10.69. doing that made the website go live. which essentially flipped a kill switch. >> wow. how about that? it was a chaotic scene in southeast d.c. after police cruisers collided and gunshots rang out. it all started when an officer tried to question someone near the gardens apartment. they

on a foot chase, other police were called to the scene, but that's when two cars slammed into each other. here you can see at 12th and i street. at some point, shots were fired in the area, but no one was hit. the officers and the cruise verse minor jurls, several people were arrested. meanwhile president donald trump will speak at the 36th national peace officer's memorial service at the u.s. capitol tomorrow. that service is part of a national police week, a theme that's meant to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> nearly 400 names were read at the national fallen officers candle light vigil last night. one woman who was among the crowd, zeta bates. she went with her baby daughter who will never see her father. bates was pregnant when the baby's father, a kansas city police captain was shot and killed in july.

>> every day does. news 4's megan mcgrath explain why is the maryland crab season is here just a little earlier than normal. >> reporter: well i'm near churchton, maryland, which is in southern county and if you look behind me here, you can see a watermans work boat out there. they're pulling up their crab pots out here on the chesapeake bay. and because of the warm winter and the warm spring, we are actually seeing crabs in this area in the churchton area coming out a bit earlier. lots of waterman in the area reporting that they're actually out there working the crab pots. working their trot lines earlier than usual. weeks earlier than they have in previous years because they are actually catching crab. so good news for the waterman in this particular area. we went out with one on his boat early in the morning and he says he's very optimistic about what he's seeing so far. things slowed down label the because of the cold weather we have seen as of late, but he's

seeing plenty of crabs and >> so very optimistic about the season. now one thing to keep in mind though is that an early start, a strong early start does not exactly mean a strong season overall. in fact, there are some numbers out there which indicates that the crab season is actually going to slow down later in the summer, but the dredge report from the state of maryland shows the juvenile crabs are down. that's not good news. but there is a bright spot though. apparently the female crabs spawning age female crabs, they're at the highest level ever seen during the survey. so there's hope there as well. as for the crab season, there are local crabs here in southern county right now, and crabbers hope it'll be a steady season. on the bay, megan mcgrath, news 4. >> and megan has a full report coming up tomorrow at 5:00, you can catch it right here on news 4 at 5:00 p.m.

>> the female ones, those are excited for the tom, gorgeous day, you saw the bike ride. what spectacular weather they had. >> perfect for bike riding and not too hot. you don't to want ride a bike when the sun just bakes you. this morning it was fresh and cool. few sprinkles, they're long gone and now sunshine pours down on washington in this live view from the storm team 4 city camera overlooking the river, there's capitol hill in the distance, and yeah, washington showing off in springtime. this was the best time of year here. and pollen count is down as well. and we're in that time of the year where the pollen counts are dropping. temperatures are rising though, climbing into the 60s, leesburg is up to 64. noontime on this mother's day, low 70s, sunshine through the afternoon with winds gusting 30 miles an hour. hovering in the upper 70s between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. then this evening, maybe heading back home, we'll be back down to the mid-60s by 9:00 under a clear sky. then by dawn tomorrow, dealing with sun glare, driving in to work tomorrow morning, waiting

at the bus stopth you may need a light jacket tomorrow morning, low 50s, and then sunshine, lunch hour, you'll be comfortable in short sleeves as well as heading back home on dry roads tomorrow afternoon, we'll be in the mid-70s as you walk back home as well. beautiful afternoon tomorrow. then on tuesday, another gorgeous may day, but not feeling like may wednesday and thursday. more like july, it'll be up near 90 both of those days under a partly sunny sky. then cooler as we get into friday and next weekend. notice the trend is dry all the way until day ten, that's when we might get some rain showers that following tuesday week after this comg week.
