warning of this massive worldwide cyber attack called wanna cry. microsoft president criticized the u.s. national security agency saying it weaponized a weakness in windows software and allowed it to be stolen by hackers. here's the details on this massive cyber attack. >> reporter: they are calling this on a worldwide attack on a unprecedented scale. there are 200,000 victims in at least 150 countries and warning it could get worse when people get back to work and turn on their computers. >> unprecedented. the level of infection and the amount of damage potentially inflicted. >> reporter: britain's national health computers were the first to be affected. stopping surgeries p.m. doctors and hospital staff unable to

anything else on their computer networks. britain's prime minister theresa may said the system is now returning to normal. the virus known asw wanna cry spread to russian banks, universities in china and federal express in the united states. the ransom ware affects computers through a bad link through e-mail. it lock computers, encrypting files and demanding $300 in bit coin to unlock them. this blogger is warning use toeusers to update their computers fast. donald trump spending this mother's day weekend on university campuses giving his first commencement address while the department of justice worked in a frenzy to find the

director despite democrats vowing to fight the president's candidate tooth and nail until they get answers on james comey's firing. that sentiment quinns with a new poll that finds 78% back an independent commission or special prosecutor to oversee the russian probe with 15% saying the investigation should be led by congress. while 29% say they approve of the president's decision to fire comey, 38% disapprove of comey's termination. another 32% said they didn't know enough to say. the president's standing has remained unchanged with 39% of the public approving his work in office compared to 54 who disapprove. the question can the president put last week's set of controversies behind him as he narrows the list of potential new candidates for fbi director? let's bring in tracie potts who is live in washington. tell usn

starting the week with the president's new steven for fbi boss. >> reporter: they have eight candidates who were interviewed over the weekend. this is well under way as the justice department tries to help the president figure out who should be in charge of the fbi. those eight candidates include a couple of politicians, one currents and one former member of congress. a couple of judges. and andrew mccabe the current act being director and former deputy director of the fbi. fbi insiders here as well as politicians and there's caution coming from both sides, democrats and republicans that this may be given the climate, given there are so many questions about the russia investigation and interference in that, maybe the president should not choose someone from capitol hill. we'll see how that develops. our team on the ground at the justice department tells us that while they are currently interviewing those candidates it does not appear yet that president trump has. the other thing that we're watching this morning, the former
