the white house is calling on all nations to implement far stronger sanctions. a scary crime scene on one of the busiest highways in our area. two women shot and killed on i-95. this happened early sunday morning. one of the victims sharane holland was from manassas. she was in a car with five other people. someone pulled up next to them near exit 75 and started shooting. troopers believe someone targeted the women. they are asking the public for their help in this investigation. the suspect vehicle was a newer model white 4 door see dan. it's been more than two weeks that a virginia mother and her 8-month-old baby have been missing. they found the car but still no sign of kier johnson and khloe. they're believed to be in extreme danger. police issued an amber alert after

believe they had been kidnapped. this morning police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty will be remembered by their brothers and sisters in whether you. the national peace officer's memorial service begins at 11:00 this morning at the u.s. capital. president trump will speak at that memorial. you can expect road closures around the capital. six officers from our area will have their name etched into the law enforcement memorial. all six officers died last year. in all, more than 200 officers will be honored today. president trump's revised travel ban will once again go before an appeals court today. a three-judge panel will hear arguments on whether to continue blocking that order. it was blocked earlier this year after a federal judge in hawaii concluded it was inspired by prejudice against muslims. this could be a krugs amitriptyline week for president trump. he will leave for his first foreign t

messages of love and hope replaced a symbol of hate. that's what the students at cross set middle school will see as they enter the building today. the community came together to create a chalk the walk event this weekend after a noose was found on school grounds. the suspects have been charged with trespassing on school property, disturbing school operations, disorderly cduonct and trespassing posted property. parents and students tell us they're relieved. >> we were in school and the principal came on and said -- onto the loud speaker and read the letter they were sending to the parents about how they found the noose in the courtyard. that was kind of like

>> surveillance cameras captured the suspects climbing the school roof and happening that noose. this morning we have our eye on charlottesville, virginia, where multiple protests turned violent. the city council decided to take down a statue of confederate general robert e. lee. this is the crowd holding candles. they showed up after this group that carried torches and confederate flags appeared. the protesters chanted all white lives matter. they said the statue should not come down. three people were arrested after the sides started fighting. 4:45 our time right now. president trump begins a busy week that will have a heavy focus on foreign affairs. >> but his decision to fire james comey as fbi director is still causing a headache for his administration. new poll numbers aren't helping. news 4's tracie potts are live. these are numbers from our new nbc news wall street journal poll. what are some of the

>> reporter: the headlines are that a lot of people -- they say according to what we saw in this poll -- stand by. let me pop the mike on. now you can hear me. according to what we saw in this poll, the plurality at this of the people, 38% said they disapprove of comey's firing. 38% disapprove and others don't know enough. 15% versus 78% who say that it should be an independent commission or a special prosecutor. >> tracie, the president also says he plans to make a decision on an fbi replacement that could happen by the end of this week. what do we know about who the candidates are? >> reporter: the justice department interviewing eight people who they might want to

consider. senator john cornin and a former congressman. also some fbi insiders and the current director, acting director of the fbi andrew mccabe. so the process seems to be that they're being interviewed by justice department officials. once the list is narrowed down the top likely two or three will talk to the president. >> tracie potts on the hill. thank you. president trump will begin his first foreign trip as president later this week. it will include a visit with pope francis. when asked about his meeting with the president the pope said he won't try to convince president trump to soften his policies on immigration or the environment. while the pope has not directly criticized the president, he has spoken out about some of his more controversial campaign promises, particularly his pledge to build a wall between the u.s. and mexico. flames erupted from an historic new york city synagogue. heavy flames

congress grey days. the synagogue was closed in 2000 seven and was going to be demolished. they decided to keep it open. the building once housed the oldest jewish orthodox congregation. it will cost a lot of money to replace a fire truck that caught on fire in fair tax county. you can see the charred fire truck. the truck caught on fire just before 1:00 yesterday morning while it was inside the building. the fire spread to the roof. nearly a dozen firefighters and paramedics responded. they're still trying to figure out how it got started. 4:48. take a look at the next piece of video. this is first responders rescuing a dog that fell into a sinkhole. you can see a member of the trench rescue team here. yesterday a collie named siri fell six feet down the sinkhole

>> this is tricky because the hole was only two feet wide. the dog actually helped them during the rescue by being so well behaved. took them 90 minutes to get the dog out. there it is. we have more pictures of this incredible rescue in our nbc washington app. search dog rescue. all right. so in new york city pregnant women can use these new buttons to snag a seat on the train. the mta is giving out buttons that say, baby on board and please offer me a seat. the campaign comes after many pregnant women complained that they could not sit down. one of the other buttons is used for people with disabilities or elderly people as well. 4:49. going back to the breaking news in traffic with melissa mollet. >> big problem in prince george's county. talking about in bound suitland park way between forestville road to

scene of the tedly two car wreck that has left two people dehree and one person in the hospital. this happened about 3:30 or so just off the corner of inbound suitland parkway. a jeep suv and some other kind of vehicle. the other vehicle did catch fire. the response and investigation is now underway. so you will find closures. the response is live on forestville. the u.s. park police is now leading this investigation. at this time we do know there were two cars involved in this collision here on in bound suitland parkway near forestville road. three people are now dead and one is in the hospital. we are here on scene remaining and we'll bring you updates as they come in. for now, b i
