she was driving west on the eastbound lanes around 1:30 this afternoon. >> her car hit an suv head on as well as another car right between ritchie highway. paramedics had to rush an adult and child to the hospital. take a look now. this is a live look at the scene. police have had to shut down route 50 and they say it's going to be closed for a while. in fact, several of the schools nearby are delaying sending kids home because of that crash. we are also on top of a breaking news in a district where a water main break sends water gushing into the street. it's causing water to flood down q street. >> the broken water main also services the pentagon. mark segraves is on the scene right now and brings us up to date on the repair work. >> reporter: we're used to this here in washington, d.c. most of our underground infrastructure dates back to the civil war and as always it started here with a trickle and

massive sinkhole now in the middle of macarthur boulevard. this is where the water was gushing out earlier today. now if we look back over here toward the sidewalk, you can see where it also buckled the sidewalk and sent all this sand and debris on the road. schools and businesses and apartment buildings have been without water for hours central to this issue is the key bridge. because the 30 inch water main that runs beneath this boulevard here that carries all this water also runs underneath key bridge. that same main also feeds water to the pentagon. we're told the pentagon actually lost water service earlier today. another impact, canal road. all this water was rushing downhill, down q street. right below us is canal road and canal road was closed in both

because of all of the running water. now the water has been turned off. this road will be closed for hours. do not expect to use macarthur boulevard during rush hour tomorrow. they'll be problems with the commute tomorrow morning as well. they hope to get water back in the next few hours. >> thank you. three young professionals woke up this morning to flames rapidly spreading through their home. >> doctors are treating all three of the victims and family members. they're trying to see what's left of this house. >> northern virginia, bureau reporter david cul ver is live in burke with details. >> reporter: you can see behind me what is left and it's not much this home. they're trying to board it up today. they're up on the roof looking to patch up what they can. neighbors tell me what they cannot shake from their memory right now are the screams for help that they heard early this morning. four young

here, one of them happened to be at work when she got a phone call saying that her home had just exploded. a neighbor recording the flames and smoke pouring out of this town home. >> and i saw them trying to get the glass and everything out and i saw the flames going up. >> reporter: inside at the time jesse macnary's brother, her boyfriend and another roommate. she had already been at work when she got several phone calls, finally picking up for her dad. and he was asking who was at her house and he was like there was an explosion and i was like, what? so i ran back to my boss and i was like they can't get a hold of my brother or anybody in the house and there was an explosion. >> reporter: her brother and boyfriend both flown to the burn center. >> if you've been flown out to the burn center there's serious injury. >> reporter: her friend emily desperate to get out,

ambulance taking her to a nearby hospital. and that was just talking to family who was on scene a short time ago. they tell me all three victims are recovering. doing pretty well tonight. also inside this home at the time were three pets, a cat and two dogs, all three did not make it out. as for a cause, i just heard late today from the chief who was out here, he tells me that it appears to be electrical. may have started because of a lamp that caught fire. chris. >> all right. glad to hear the folks are going to be okay. so sorry to hear about the cats and dogs. >> a senator says he's okay after he collapsed. senator tom till list was running a race this morning and paramedics had to rush him to the hospital. he tweeted from his hospital bed that he's all right. >> hey, everybody. i'm fine just running about two and a half miles and got overheated, no cpr or special measures just checking me out. see you back on the hill. >> he collapsed about 15 minutes into the

a three mile race. he's a 57-year-old republican serving his first term in the senate. >> new details this afternoon in a deadly shooting involving d.c. police officers. a woman shot and killed when investigators say she refused to drop a gun. it happened yesterday near the bald eagle rec center and that's where we find matt collins right now. >> reporter: i have to warn you we have some cell phone video of that police involved shooting, some people might find that disturbing. it did begin here at the bald eagle recreational center yesterday. police say a woman crashed her car outside then got out of her car and began waving a gun around in the air. police were called to the scene. it came to an end over here in front of the doors to the rec center. you can see the bullet holes here, i count six bullet holes. this is how it played out on that

scene. >> reporter: i have to begin with the warning. we do have cell phone video of this police involved shooting, some people might find it disturbing. it all came to an end at the front door of this rec center, take a look at the bullet holes. their low on the door, the reason for that, the woman at the time was kneeling down. she was kneeling down but she had a serious gun in her hand. this is a semi-automatic pistol police say the woman had at the bald eagle rec center. police say she crashed her car here yesterday and got out and began waving the gun around in the air. it all came to an end at the front door of the rec center. you can see the bullet holes in the door. i counted six. this is how it played out on
