meteorologist tom kierein who has to tell us about the saturday forecast. good morning. the heat is gone and the rain is gone. in fact, cloud cover has been breaking up overnight. some of the pavement is still a little damp. here's the live view from the storm team 4 tower camera looking off to the north and west. a few breaks in the cloud cover now. storm team 4 radar showing all the rain is pretty much gone. just a few sprinkles in southern stafford and spotslvania county. 72 at reagan national. these are the warmest temperatures of the day. we're in the 60s elsewhere. hour by hour, we'll be hovering in the 60s. maybe reaching near 70 again mid to late afternoon under a partly sunny sky. a look at more showers and storms on the way. that's coming up in a few minutes. thank you, tom. brand new this morning, someone was mysteriously hurt on the university of maryland campus. the university of maryland police say there was a report of a cutting this morning in a dorm room. it's still not clear if the victim was stabbed. police say there's a suspect in st

people, a student, man, woman or anything else, but we are working to find that out. not only that, but the school's graduation is this weekend. and we're learning to see what caused this fire. take a look at the screen that destroyed a school bus in montgomery county. these are the flames here with the pictures coming from the fire department. two other buses were damaged because of this. county fire says it happened in the bus depot near the shady grove metro station but didn't say how it all began. take a look, these are president trump's first steps on foreign soil since he took office. >> that's right. the president touched down in saudi arabia earlier this morning. the saudi king, king salman, met there. the president and first lady will spend more than a week there. in addition to the first lady, ivanka trump is on this

president who enjoys routine. so a lot of folks are watching to see how he handled the whirlwind week anything but routine. the white house working to frame this trip as historic with aides hoping it provide the kind of reboot for the president. hallie jackson, nbc news, ryadh. the latest investigation into the trump administration contact with russia is that the former fbi director will speak under oath. james comey will testify before the senate intelligence committee in a public hearing, which means whatever he says will be unclassified. there's no date for that hearing right now, but it won't be until after memorial day. president trump fired comey earlier this month. mr. trump later said the russia investigation was the reason why. men and women of service are being remembered for armed forces day. this morning the non-commissioned officers are laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown in arlington. the ceremony gets underway at 10:00. >>

weekend on mcarthur boulevard in northwest d.c. a centuries old water main broke on wednesday. the water flooded the road to open up a sinkhole there. crews replaced the pipe friday night and they spent yesterday filling the hole with dirt. it's not clear when mcarthur boulevard will reopen to traffic. fire consumes a furniture refinishing business. this was in montgomery county. the flames were so intense that part of the whole roof collapsed. the firefight was even tougher because there were no hydrants in the area. the fire crews had to bring in their own water and authorities shut down part of route 355 as they knocked down hot spots. still, no injured or word on a cause yet this morning. and we have learned it was a hospital patient that stole an ambulance and led police on a wild chase during the friday morning rush. 43-year-old william person was leaving the hospital when he climbed in the ambulance and drove off. the gps in theul

police to locate and track it. when he made his way to charles county, they used stop stips to deflate the tires. the maryland state trooper was able to stop him with his cruiser and the person was immediately taken into custody and taken for mental evaluation. no one else was hurt. police are still looking for the driver who hit a woman in prince george's county and kept going. a woman was hitted and killed ey friday morning. police told us this stretch of roadway is very dangerous. aaa says there have been more than a dozen deadly crashes there in the last four years. coming up, devastation in indiana. the state of emergency and the new danger as rushing water pours over homes and cars. keep on dreaming. the odds on favorite and kentucky derby w

welcome back. some disturbing new information about the man accused of driving his car into a crowd in times square. richard rojas made his first appearance in court yesterday. he said he heard demons telling him to hurt people. according to prosecutors, he wanted to, quote, kill them all. he waited for a busy moment before pressing the gas. an 18-year-old woman died in this incident. 22 other people were hurt. right now a state of emergency has been declared in one indiana county due to all of this flooding. this is the scene in washington county. that was last night. as you can see, vehicles even a some homes were completely submerged in the flooat

good morning. drying out on this saturday morning, just a few sprinkles in southern stafford county and spotsylvania. those will be gone shortly. if you are going to get some exercise, a walk or a hike, temperatures will be climbing from the upper 60s to the lower 70s this afternoon. much cooler under a partly cloudy sky. we'll see more rain chances over the next few minutes. nearly 500 tons of trash is pulled out of the potomac river each year. >> that's a lot of garbage. and that is just in d.c. parts of the river taken by marcy gray are showing us a new way they are cleaning this up. >> reporter: christopher jones is out picking up trash. he's been working for d.c. water

jones is the captain of two new skimmer boats along the southwest waterfront. >> we pick up bottles and a lot of wood. we get a lot of wood. just about anything. you may run into anything out here. >> reporter: the d.c. water general manager george hawkins says removing all the trash from the rivers is important for the environment. >> it's about 40 to 50 tons of debris a month. 300 to 500 tons a year. think about it, that is all in the river and we're removing it and getting it out so the river is cleaner for everybody that enjoys it. >> reporter: for brian meyer, removing the debris is also important for boater safety. >> it is greatly important because a lot of times you can't see what is in the water, so you can paddle right into it and not even know and just fall off. things like that, but getting the large debris is very important. >> reporter: tommy wells oversees the d.c. department of energy and environment. he wants more people to start enjoying the rivers and

especially one aspect of the rivers. >> well, the catfish, in particular, are getting cleaner. and if you get any snake head, by all means, take it home, filet it and take it home. because that is some good tasting fish. >> reporter: he says it is rewarding in another way. >> you enjoy yourself and you know people appreciate what you do. so it makes me feel good, i love it. >> reporter: along the river, mark accostia, news4. if you're putting money on the preakness, many people are always dreaming. the horse that won the preakness is the one that has won before.

gone. the heat wave we had is long gone now thanks to the front that came through yesterday. we still have low clouds hanging over washington. now the rainfall reports, for the month of may so far, we have had almost 4 inches. that's how much rain we get in the entire month of may. so we're certainly running higher than average. and there's just a couple of spots that are abnormally dry. the drought monitor here in the central shenandoah valley, parts of montgomery and howard county, but the drought is gone. so far we have in 2017 only about an inch and a third below average rainfall and moisture. right now around the region, we have just a few sprinkles dow d 95 in southern spotsylvania county. the low 70s in washington near the bay. these will be the warmest temperatures of the day. the cooler air continues to filter in on the northeast breeze. we are in the low to

the pollen continues to be on the high range in many locations that didn't get the rain yesterday. the grass is also in the high range. weeds are low. and the mold spores are getting low to moderate now. hour by hour into this afternoon, look at temperatures just holding steady, generally in the 60s throughout the rest of the morning. then during the afternoon, it will peak near 70 degrees. then by this time tomorrow morning, we'll be down into the 50s. you can have the windows open tonight and throughout the rest of the day today as well. storm team 4 ten-day outlook, beautiful day on be sunday. afternoon highs tomorrow, low of 70. then monday as we get back to work and school, might get a shower in the morning or maybe in the afternoon. a thundershower is possible there. temperatures in the low 70s. the sun returns on tuesday. then into wednesday, that looks like a stormy day with afternoon highs near 80 degrees. we do get pretty heavy thunderstorms and they add to the may rainfall total and lingers showers on thursday. then into the memorial day weekend, yes, memorial day weekend coming

you definitely want to pay attention to these things. if you are headed southbound, especially on 95, 95 south at the neabsco creek bridge, one lane will be shut down from friday all the way until monday at 1:00 a.m. if you are thinking about heading that way, allow some extra time. you might want to think about the express lanes. here are some alternates for you. branch avenue to 301 and beltway to route 29. any of those might help you just a bit here this weekend. on sunday, the marine corps historic half marathon in the downtown area in fredericksburg, they are a pretty run. the road closures start sunday morning at 5:30 in the morning. also, sunday, the capitol hill classic, the 10a race kicks off at 10:00 in the morning. near the capitol, supreme court, library of congress and

they have rolling road closures there. see you monday morning for "news4 today." and scary scene aboard a hawaii-bound american airlines flight. >> that's right. flight attendants and passengers had to subdue a man who tried to get through the cockpit. here's the fbi escorting the suspect off the plain. investigators say he's a turkish man. before the flight even took off, police say he tried to get through a door and to the airfield ramp at lax. officials arrested him for trespassing. they noticed he had been drinking but let him board his flight to hawaii anyway. once on board, passengers stopped him before he got too far. >> i look up and my man has a blanket over his head. they are like, somebody please help, somebody please help. i thought he was tripping on it at first, but i guess he rushed the cockpit. >> the fbi detained the suspect. no word if there's any additional charges for the cockpit incident. well, we are off to a

we are talking about the projection protest against president trump. this is at trump hotels and others in the district. robert bell uses a projector and computer program to create the messages. take a look here. bell says he talked to police, lawyers and other experts to make sure his work is legal. he feels the current political climate is taking a troll on everyone, whether you're on the right, the left or the middle. >> if you're upset and con fuszed afusz ed -- confused and depressed, we are trying to make sure these are nonpartisan. >> bell launched slal pro -- similar protests against president obama as well. and a government-wide hiring freeze ended last month, but there's still a freeze at the department of health and human services. according to

colin kaepernick may not have a team for this upcoming season but he's still included a game changer. they will rotate his jersey into the smithsonian exhibit. it's the first jersey kaepernick wore while taking a knee during the national anthem. he was trying to bring attention to police violence against minorities. it could take two years to put the item on display. tomorrow is the taste of arlington, but you may hit some of the traffic for the event today with a lot to set up there. arlington police say wilson boulevard and north twinkie street will be blocked off. there's a lot of parking restrictions going on as well. this runs from noon today to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. you need a ticket to attend but it looks delicious. it's a good weekend to fire up the grill. tom is looking ahead to how soon temperatures will be back above 80 as we take a live look at the

line becomes official, they are holding a job fair in riverdale, maryland. the job fair starts at 11:00 this morning. meanwhile, larry hogan is looking to compel a federal judge to issue a ruling in the purple line lawsuit. that has been stalled ever since the judge questioned the viability of the purple line back in august. and for nearly 30 years, it was the biggest sports and entertainment venue in the area. take a look here to bring up some memories, the capital center was state of the art when it was built. but by 2002, it outlived its glory day. >> now 15 years later, the people who worked there are getting together for one last hurrah. >> reporter: when it opened for a game between the capitals and the supersonics, the capital center had

arabia this morning, the first of several countries he's visiting on his first foreign trip as president. mr. trump will also visit israel, belgium and italy. we are working to find out if any students were involved in an apparent stabbing at the university of maryland. one person was seriously hurt in a dorm overnight. the school's graduation is this weekend, by the way. we are just seeing new photos from a school bus lot that went up in flames where a school bus in the lot went up in flames. it is not clear what started the fire in montgomery county. several buses were damaged and one was destroyed here. repair work will continue this weekend on mcarthur boulevard in d.c. a central water main flooded and opened up a sinkhole. 72 degrees right now, tom, how much warmer is it going to get? >> not much. this could be the warmest part of the day right now. we're going to see it holding steady in the 60s for the rest of the day. and so our july and may weather is gone for now. and look at our pattern here.

good morning. travel abroad, trouble at home. president trump in saudi arabia this morning, his first trip overseas as president clouded by the russia investigation. reports that an unnamed current white house official close to the president is under criminal investigation. and that the president told the russians former fbi director james comey was a nut job, even with the dismissal of the investigation. this as he gets set to testify publicly in front of congress. we are live in saudi arabia. scare in the sky. two fighter jets escorted the american airlines flight to hawaii after a passenger rushed up the aisle towards the cockpit. >> i get up, hear a nice and everybody is kind of freaking
