we begin with the weather. you from the city cam where you can see how messy a morning it has been. dreary and hazy. lots of clouds and rain that caused low visibility and slowed down commuters. all the rain has also caused some flooding in our area. this video was tweeted out by the loudoun county sheriff's department. it shows a road that had to be closed because of high water. the tweet reminds drivers to turn around, not drown. let's check in with storm team 4 meteorologist lauren rickets. how much more rain will we get today, lauren? >> we could have heavy rain in spots. we have one for culpepper county. we'll get to that. isolated flooding around the region. yes, it was a gray day. it still is. some areas got a little bit of sunshine earlier this morning. you were lucky. we could get more pops of sun through this dry

into the early afternoon. another round of rain and storms are headed our way for the afternoon. some which could be strong. now, temperatures are in the 60s right now. we jumped up to 65 here in washington on our way to the 70s. i'm going to time out that rain and it's memorial day weekend. i've got that forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you, lauryn. now to the aftermath of the terror attack in manchester this morning. more victims recovering from the bombing at the ariana grande concert that got a big visitor. the queen of england went to the royal manchester children's hospital. 12 children under 16 were taken to that hospital after the bombing. the queen spent time speaking with them and their families and she also met a number of the doctors who have been performing life-saving surgeries on them. as the entire country honors the people killed in the attack, we are finding out more about the suspect in the bombing. >> nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard engel is in manchester with

developments. >> reporter: in solidarity with the victims of the uk's worst terrorist attack in the decade, the si of manchester and the entire nation observed a minute of silence. also in manchester, queen elizabeth tii. she advivisited some of those injured. there are images of salman abedi at a shopping center right next to the concert arena doing reconnaissance or buying supplies. he's wearing a blue backpack, the tag still on it. it appears to be the same backpack that three days later would hold a bomb. "the new york times" obtained images of what's left of the bomb that now charred blue backpack, its powerful battery and a hand-held trigger. british officials are furious about the leaked photos. they accuse t

said the british service failed to pick up the clues of the bomber before the attack and he should not have been on the streets. the bomber was known to british authorities as a possible extreme it's and two of his brothers have been arrested u.s. and british authorities believe abedi was part of a wider network and fear that the bomb maker may still be at large. >> british prime minister theresa may will talk to president trump about leaks in the investigation. both leaders are in brussels for meetings. nato meetings today. the leet erred are expected to hold a working dinner. may will make clear to the president that intelligence shared between our law enforcement agencies must remain secure. just minutes ago, we got this statement from president trump. it reads in part, the alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling. these leaks have been going on for a long

administration will get to the bottom of this. we called amtrak to find out what went wrong at the rail yard near 9th street and northeast overnight. d.c. fire and ems said there was an incident where two trains apparently collided. the fire department said it was low impact but that somebody was hurt. nobody was injured, however, when a building collapsed in montgomery county. but those cars probably need some repairs right now. take a look at this photo from cherry hill road in beltsville. bricks falling on to the car's windshields and the hoods. montgomery county fire and ems is working to find out what caused that collapse. parent outrage seems to be leading to changes at a northeast d.c. elementary school. we told you earlier this week, a pipe broke at capitol hill montessori causing sewage to flood into the cafeteria. it's happened more than once this year. now the school says it's fixing that pipe. it will also sanitize the kitchen area and do environmental testing and air quality checks.

should be able to use cafeteria again by next tuesday. as that d.c. school under goes repairs, another is set to get a total facelift. a few minutes ago, mayor bowser celebrated the groundbreaking of another school. >> justin is there on what it means for students and teachers there. >> reporter: pat, good morning. the new project aims to be a game changer in education here in the district. a state of the art learning space at orr elementary where the chancellor and the mayor say for quite some time, top level learning has been taking place. let's take you to the main event. the groundbreaking about an hour or so ago. mayor bowser and chancellor antoine wilson joining orr elementary students and staff to raise their shovels in celebration of this $47 million two-phase project going up at 22nd and minnesota avenue

classrooms, an outdoor learning space, a library, computer lab and so much more. now, this original building went up back in 1974 and chancellor wilson says when he first came to d.c., one of his first thoughts was, was that orr needed a new building. he says this will be a boone for orr as well as the surrounding community. >> i think having a vibrant school building that is open to visible to the public that there is actually school going on here is extremely important. having the outdoor classroom space and the additional learning environments, the play states, all of that, it helps students learn and helps them with their physical needs, helps them with their social emotional needs and i think altogether, that leads to a more well-rounded student. >> reporter: and back live, we have the groundbreaking today over there. you can see the work is already taking place. as for the ribbon-cutting, that will be

amazingly, two young children were able to escape this burning rv, butt the man inside died. we broke the news had morning from the live desk. police in garland, texas, say a woman texted 911 from inside the rv saying that the driver had kidnapped and shot her. police chased it down, spiked the tires. the woman was able to jump out while that was all going on. and then somehow the rv stopped and went up in flames. we don't know the condition of the women or the children are in lightth rye now. but we're going to keep an eye on that story. washington lobbyist jack burkeman is challenging the major political parties and a fox news host this morning.

he wants the democratic national committee, republican national convention republican national convention and sean hannity to put up $105,000 in the murder of seth rich. he was shot and killed last year. burkeman put up $100,000 of his money for information. he says the goal is to get the reward money up to a million dollars. rich's death has led to several conspiracy theories. fox news has disavowed its role in spreading those theories. for the first time we're hearing from the principal who has decided that a pregnant high school senior can't walk at graduation. earlier this week, we told you about maddy who attends in hagerstown. she has a 4.0 gpa. student council president. administrators suspended her for two days and told her she would not be allowed to walk when they found out she was pregnant. she broke the student pledge including a vow to

be aware. deadly traffic accidents tend to rise during summer road trips. >> a lot of people driving more at night. driving more on roads that they're not familiar with and those are riskier types of driving. >> chuck farmer and colleagues at the insurance institute of highway safety examined driver fatalities between 2012 and 2015. the smallest cars had the highest death rates. >> if you run into something bigger than you, you are at a big disadvantage and more likely to be severely injured and more likely to be killed. >> 11 vehicles had zero driver deaths during the study period, including the audi a-6. toyota tacoma double cab. zeep cherokee, mazda cx 9 and mercedes-benz m class. larger vehicles tend to be more protective. whatever vehicle you drive,

week. >> we have a lot of beautiful thing on the table. tell us about the changes in your menu. you're focusing more on local, seasonal veggies and sustainable meats. >> one of the reasons i moved to the area is the vegetable cuisine is wonderful. you have access to fertile land and coming into a bar, i think that's a particularly good atmosphere to be able to showcase some of that. i've just been playing around with making that more of a bar friendly thing to do. >> eating vemg tabls in a casual environment rather than having to have a full sit-down dinner to get a side of veggies. >> we're making a cucumber gazpacho with jalapenos. we have fresh radishes from the garden. we've got cucumbers. >> i don't know if you can see these. they're beautiful. >> there's the beautiful shot. >> all the rain that everyone is hating is making the radishes go nuts. >>

>> you take about five to six cucumbe cucumbers. put them in a viet a mix blender, food processor. >> meaning you cook them. >> i took out the center so that you could iowe this creates a not great texture in your gazpacho. you can use english cucumbers with smaller seeds. they're more expensive but work great too. when it gets hot, this is always around my house. green tomatoes, i like the body and the tang that they provide. i use shallots since we're doing a raw soup. we don't want to do something too sharp. they have a nice amount of acidity that goes into it. and the jalapeno which gives it depth, earthiness. smashed garlic, which you have to have garlic for everything. fresh mint from my garden. and then also fresh dill. everything else here, this is

it does have flavor, but -- >> what are your specialties? >> my specialties are evolving. i haven't quite gotten to that point. i've only been with them for two months. but we've come really far so fast. people love the carrots. they seem to sell the most. the charred carrots. >> charred carrots. it's earthy and crunchy. it's got a lot of different things going on. i used to grill a lot to showcase the vegetables. >> i see you grilled the jalapeno, take a lit of the how the heat comes ous. >> i'm going to taste a -- you said you were going to put that in the blender. all this goes in here. >> that's it? >> yep. dump it right in. it's the simplest thing. >> i guess the hardest part is chopping all that up. >> you don't even have to have knife skills for this. that's the lovely thing, it goes
