we start this "news4 midday" with breaking news in rockville. several elementary school students getting sick from some kind of fumes at their school. >> montgomery county fire and rescue call to richie park elementary school on dunster road in rockville and it happened around 10:00 this morning. they had a report of an odor in the building that had made people sick. montgomery county fire sent additional ambulances to the school and this, of course, is chopper 4 over the scene. a fire spokesperson said several students at that school were impacted by the odor. they're being checked out now by the medics. the school has been evacuated while montgomery county fire and rescue, they check this thing out, and see what the cause of this odor. we'll stay on top of this story as it developing. our

route and will have the very latest for us and, of course, check out our nbc washington app for updates. and this just in to our newsroom this morning. we're getting these dramatic images of a school bus that caught fire. take look at these pictures from d street northeast near stanton park. d.c. fire & ems say it was an engine fire. six people were on the bus. no word on how many children were on that bus. first responders rescued all of the them, thank goodness. medics took the bus driver to the hospital to be evaluated. all right. whether you're staying in, cooking out, or heading out for the weekend, the weather's going to be a big story over the next couple days. >> i want to do all of the above. send it over to lauren ricketts in storm team 4 and see what's going on. >> yeah. i want to do all that, too. this might be the weekend to do it. honestly, not looking at bad as we thought earlier in

to 1948. if you can't make it to arlington in person, see a lot more online. a gallery of photos on the nbc washington app. this morning one local family is saying good-bye to a young man whose military career was cut shore before it started. lieutenant richard collins killed on an unprovoked attack on university maryland campus just a couple days before his graduation from bowie university. we have more. >> reporter: in a black hearse, arriving at the church in glenarden and escorted into the sanctuary by members of bowie state university's rotc. bowie alums coming to show support. >> he was a man of promisend

here in our country. it just saddens me. >> reporter: led in by a police escort, family and friends later followed, beginning the process of bidding farewell to collins who died days shy of graduating bowie state university. a graduation, an empty chair stood in tribute. his college friends miss him that day and say they will now for years to come. >> he passed away two days after he just became a 2nd lieutenant in the army. graduation three days ago and he was supposed to graduate with his student body. to see an empty chair is surreal. >> reporter: collins, just 23, died last weekend after being stabbed as a bus stop where he was visiting friends. maryland student sean urbanski charged with his murder. the campus police investigation is working to see if this was a hate crime. and the service began just a few moments ago, insid

of course, family and friends, alsoe nd to be here to show respects to the collins family. we can tell you, too, collins is being laid to rest in his army uniform. church officials telling us he leaves behind a loving mother, father and a sister. back to you. >> justin finch, thank you so much. right now, president donald trump is on the final leg of his first overseas trip. he's at the g. 7 summit in italy where he's meeting with heads of other major economic powers. this comes after a contentious trip to nato headquarters where the president lectured other leaders about paying their fair share. meanwhile, back at home, the fbi investigation into the trump campaign and russia has hit the trump family circle. nbc news has learned his son-in-law and senior adviser jared kushner is under the bureau's scrutiny. news 4 tracie potts on more on what the fbi is focusing on. >> reporter: multiple

tell nbc president trump's son-in-law and adviser jared kushner is under scrutiny by the fbi. that does not mean he's a subject or target of the russia investigation, or that he's suspected of any crime. >> it may be that he has information. that he attended meetings, that he participated in conversations that might be useful to the investigation. >> reporter: we do know kushner had at least two meetings with russian officials. the ambassador, and a russian banker and former intelligence trainee whose bank has been under u.s. sanctions for three years. >> why did the trump transition and later and before that the trump campaign have so many contacts with the russians and more importantly, why did they then withhold them and/or lie about them? >> reporter: what's that the fbi is investigating. former trump aides michael flynn and paul manafort are subjects of that probe kushner is not but the first tied to the president in the inner circle. >> awfully hard for the

hisicublican and was expected to win. especially with about two-thirds of the vote cast before election day. he was cited on a misdemeanor charge. we want to get to the latest in the terror attack in manchester. secretary of state rex tillerson is in london to honor the victims of monday's vick time and signed a condolence book this morning with london's mayor. officials identified all 22 victims. british officials are sharing intelligence with their american counterparts. at first, when details of the bombing investigation started leaking to media in the u.s., intelligence in the uk angrily stopped sharing information. we have more on the arrests overnight. >> reporter: it's an unrelenting man hunt, a race to stop another attack. arrests's first time in britain, armed police patrolling trains ahead of a holiday weekend.

>> reporter: i'm meagan fitzgerald here in montgomery county outside of richey park elementary school. you can see an active scene here. we're told there was a call that came in around 10:00 this morning for an odor inside the

when officials called the first. evaluated the situation. we understand about two dozen kids at this point are being evaluated. it was said they were feeling sick. also some adults feeling sick as well. right now they're inside. some of those individuals that are being evaluated by first responders on-scene here are inside the montgomery county fire and rescue medical ambulance, but at this point we were told no one was transported to the hospital at this point. the school is evacuated and first responders trying to discover what this odor is and what's happening. again, important to note that at this point, no one has been transported to the hospital. we do know, though, there are at least two dozen kids that are being evaluated after some sort of odor was detected inside the school. back to you. >> all right. as we get more information we'll retweet and pushing out updates on the nbc washington app.

that's getting national headlines. a high s graduate to walk across the stage because she's pregnant. >> the teen attends heritage academy and is working to stop what she calls unfair shaming. nbc's kristen dahlgren has the story. >> reporter: by all accounts, maddie is a good student. she got into college. has a 4.0 average, and a growing baby bump. >> how far along are you? >> 25 weeks this week. >> reporter: because of that, heritage academy, a private christian school in hagerstown, maryland, says she won't be joining her 14 classmates when they get their diplomas next week. >> that is everything i worked so hard for, and that's a night to acknowledge it. graduation is a very big deal, and i will be the only one not there to celebrate it with my friends. >> reporter: maddie says it was a difficult decision to keep the baby, and tell the school she was pregnant. >> my principal told me he wanted to hold an assembly, tell people what happened.

tell us a little more about the program. i went to -- maryland for school. so i'm well aware of the museum, but for folks who don't know it, such a rich history. >> yes. i'm pleased to hear, chris, you've actually been there. we have a lot of folks who have gone to university of maryland and don't know we exist. but the college park airport is actually the world's oldest continuously operating airport, and it started operations in 1909 when the wright brothers, as in our buddies from, you know, down south in north carolina, taught the first military officers how to fly. and that was the first of many aviation firsts that happened here at that field. so that's why so many people refer to it as the field of firsts. >> you know, it's been around for 20 years, but for folks that haven't been what should they expect when walking through the doors? >> folks should be
