mid-afternoon. we'll let you know more coming up. seven people were shot on hugh street northwest at 1:00 this morning. we are still learning what happened, but most of the investigation is centered around a parking lot in front of this apartment building. police have not released any suspect information. we have a manhunt happening right now in up ridge mondachmo. police are looking for the man who shot a special agent identified as mike walters who is fighting for his life this morning. agent walter and another officer walked up to a car when it was parked the wrong way on the street. the officers were talking to the man inside the car. suddenly a passenger pulls out a gun, shoots walter and runs off. the driver stayed on the scene and was arrested by li

and a deadly stabbing happened on a portland light rail train yesterday. the man was yelling at the women, one of whom was wearing a hijab. some men approached the man yelling and were stabbed. police have not identified the suspects but they are investigating to see if drugs or alcohol were involved. this happened on the first day of ramadan, the time of intense prayer marked by dawn and fasting. many mosques in the area are on high alert for vandalism attacks during what is supposed to be a holy time. they have increased security with other measures. members say they have experienced vandalism or did experience vandalism a few years ago. after that, they made a conscious effort to reach out to the community. >> i'm

peace. we shall walk hand in hand together to overcome any channels we face. >> the muslim civil rights advocacy group that issued the warning said they saw five arsons at mosques so far this year. right now president trump is in sicily for the second day of the g-7 summit. today is also the final day of the president's first overseas trip which spanned a total of nine days. it started in saudi arabia and israel before moving on to europe. during the trip, the trump administration touted fighting terrorism while putting pressure on allies to pay their fair share in the fight. the president and first lady are expected to land here in washington around 10:00 tonight. when the president arrives home, he'll face new fallout involving the russia investigation. according to "the washington post," the russian ambassador to the u.s. sergey kislyak told his

manchester police have now arrested 11 people in connection within monday's suicide bombing that happened outside an ariana grande concert. yesterday the singer took to social media to plan a benefit concert. the details have not been released, but she does plan to return to manchester. monday's bombing killed 22 people and left dozens injured. pink balloons were released yesterday for the first two victims. if you head to cemeteries this weekend, you'll see flowers and flags marking grave sites across the country this memorial day weekend. but

shower. by 9:00 a.m., the 60s. then by noon, partly sunny. and a pretty good chance of mild to afternoon storms. 3:00 p.m., temperatures in the mid-70s. a look at the hour-by-hour timing of storms is coming up in a few minutes. and developing this morning, take a look at the pictures. a terrible, terrible crash in northeast d.c. on new york avenue and north capital street in front of the hyatt place hotel. three cars were involved. as you can tell, one of the cars was clearly gutted and slit in half. it's still not clear how fast the cars were going when they collided. three people were hurt and one person was rushed to the hospital. that person is still in critical condition. and the brother of one of the d.c. sniper victims says he trusted the justice system and hopes it is not putting the man who he considers to be a monster back on the streets. the strong reaction in t

reaction of the 17-year-old convicted of terrorizing our region back in 2002. here's nbc news justice correspondent pete williams with the federal judge's rationale. >> reporter: the victims were shot in parking lots, going to school, ripping the lawn, gripping the washington area in fear in the fall of 2002. during three terrifying weeks, ten people were killed, three more were wounded including a 13-year-old boy. the snipers turned out to be john allen mohommad, a mentally disturbed man who planned to kill his ex-wife and wanted it to look like she was another random victim. he was executed seven years later. the other was lee boyd malvo then 17 who said he was brainwashed by the older man blindly following orders. after two separate trials, he was twice sentenced to life without parole. but then came a u.s. supreme court decision saying life without parole for juveniles is unconstitutional. and just last year, the court said that ruling should apply

appeal. a federal judge in virginia said because of the rulings, malvo must get a new sentencing hearing. >> that was pete williams. a spokesperson for the virginia attorney general office said that the office is reviewing the decision and will do everything possible including the possible appeal to make sure that malvo serves a life sentence. we have reached out and the spokesperson told us there's no timetable on the decision. today marks two years since a local reporter was killed bay stray bullet in the district. her murder remains unsolved. to keep her legacy alive, her family is opening a new community bookstore in her honor. today they will hold a cookout and book drive to raise money. it is happening at 3:00 p.m. on mlk avenue southeast. if you bring a book, it's free. the former national security

adviser michael we aberzinsky h died. mika berzinsky is his daughter. he was 89 years old. many paid tribute to richard collins iii. the university student was killed in what police say was an unprovoked attack. it happened at the university of virginia one week ago from today. the attack is being investigated as a possible hate crime. during the memotional funeral service yesterday, friends and family reflected on collins' short but impactful life. >> in america with only 1% of the country raises a right hand to defend and protect this country, this young man stepped forward. >> richard, i would have loved to have served under you. >>
