a way of coming together and supporting his family. >> we feel love for his parents and mom and coach hayes and the football team because it hurts. i wanted to bring the whole school together. >> white was killed on tuesday after losing control of his car near clinton. prince george's county police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened that night. they want anyone with any information to give them a call. a man in rural mississippi who allegedly went on a deay shooting rampage says he didn't mean to take the life of a sheriff's deputy. the suspect telling a reporter he doesn't deserve to live after what he did. a total of eight people died during today's shooting spree. dan has the details. >> reporter: there was a dispute that ended in gunfire.

saturday night, investigators say a sheriff's deputy was called to a domestic dispute in lincoln county, about 75 miles west of shack son. when the deputy arrived, he was shot and killed. the suspect drove to two more homes and killed four more people before being apprehended. the suspect talked to a local newspaper after his arrest. >> was having a conversation with her stepdad and my wife about taking my children and somebody called the office. >> reporter: moments later, he revealed his motive. >> suicide by cop was my intention. >> reporter: a reporter who spoke to him says it was surreal. >> i'm not a psychologist but he knew what he had done and was not afraid to talk about it. >> reporter: in all, eight people were killed including a six-year veteran of law enforcement.

today. hundreds of people came out to place roses near the graves of fallen troops. the rose laying was one of 17 similar ones across the nation. organizers say this is meant to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. the d.c. police department is building up their ranks while bolstering trust in the communities that they serve that they are reaching out to students dreaming of a future in law enforcement. nbc's anne thompson takes us inside the d.c. police academy for you. >> reporter: this is not your typical field trip. high school students at washington, d.c.,'s department of forensics lab, learning how to investigate crimes and looking for clues to their future. they are students at anacostia's public safety academy, where 20% of the violent crimes occur in the ci.

better than the last couple of days. by monday evening, we should get sunshine in here. but it's short lived because by tuesday, we have another disturbance. for now, we start off tuesday morning with cloudy conditions and by the afternoon we could see some showers and spotty storms developing on tuesday evening. i'll keep my eye on that. maybe you're headed to the beach. here's your forecast. best day to go, monday. degrees. early a.m. showers but by the afternoon, we should have sunshine setting up along the coast. current temperatures aren the 60s. the reason i'm pointing this out is because it has a lot to do with our chances of seeing fog. i'm going to pick gaithersburg. that's the current temperature. let's match that up with the dewpoints. 62 degrees in gaithersburg. the closer the numbers are together, the higher chance of fog. so be careful on the roads. for your memorial d
