the national weather service will try to answer this morning is whether a tornado touched down in northern virginia. that same storm system caused serious damage to a mobile home park in frederick county, virginia. officials say no one was hurt. five to six trees came crashing down. much of that damage is centered around frederick county just outside of winchester. one neighbor told us a falling tree nearly killed him and his family. >> the hail started, we went inside. i was trying to get everybody from the living room when about a 70 to 100-foot degree came through the living room. the inspector told me i was lucky to be alive. >> crews allowed everyone to get back inside last night. right now, things are back to normal following a scare at orlando international airport. it involved a fake gun and

rental car area around 7:30 last night. police say 26-year-old michael pettigrew pointed what looked like a real weapon at them and told police to shoot. after several hours she was taken into custody and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. a d.c. cab driver is facing charges of kidnapping and sexual abuse. a woman claimed yared mekonnen raped her. she shut said she worker up and mekonnen having sex with her. m mekonnen told police he did do anything to the woman. crews called to check on a man

once they got there, they found a man dead with signs of trauma to his body. his identity has not yet been released. and an elderly woman is in the hospital with critical injuries after being hit. a driver ran into her at the intersection of 12th and pennsylvania last night. no word yet what caused that accident. it is a tough day for students at quinn park high school as friends and family say good-bye to a classmate. norman white was killed last week while driving home from his job at a pizza parlor. police say the 17-year-old lost kw control of his car and slammed into a tree. the naacp is calling for a zero tolerance policy on hate and bias on college campuses. the demand from the group and student leaders come after the

if a little girl should be reunited with her parents or whether criminal charges should be filed after a bizarre situation at a local hospital. police say a woman brought the 2-year-old to holy cross hospital on sunday for medical treatment. there was no sign of her parents and no one knew the child's name. officers say the woman was asked to babysit the child by her sister and drop the child off when she couldn't get in touch with her. detectives eventually figured out who the child is and found one parent. and now they're looking into whether a crime has been committed and if the child has proper care. it's a headline that will catch the attorney of about every parent. "the washington post" reported that one d.c. public school lost a quarter of its teaching staff this year. the post was referring to blue high school in southeast. mayor bowser said the quotes were outliers and don't represent problems for

investigation? >> so, remember, flynn took the fifth saying he would not hand over documents? now, there's word that he will hand over personal document it's and some subpoenaed from a couple of his businesses. the senate intelligence committee wants to take a look at those documents and see if it can lend any investigation to their russia investigation. also now, michael cohen, president trump's longtime personal attorney, has changed his mind, saying he will testify before a congressional committee if asked in this russia investigation. they want to hear from him as well. they have been confirming that they've asked for a list of his russia contacts as well. initially, cohen said the request was too broad. but when they narrowed down, he agreed to testify. and there is a third trump campaign aide that on the other side, the house side, their investigation, they're asking to get some documents from him as well so this is ramping up. we'll see what happens when congress gets back. >> tracie potts live on capitol

a wild break-in, fire and standoff. and now we know who police believe is responsible. prince george's county police believe that wayne gardner broke into a home yesterday morning. investigators say gardner set the house on fire and ran into the woods with a shotgun he stole inside that house. officers found him in the woods and arrested him. firefighters put out the flames but the homeowner says his place is trashed. gardner has a long history of break-ins. if you see suspicious containers like these, police want you to be cautious. maryland national parks said these two containers could have caused a small explosion. inside is a mixture of water, drain cleaner and aluminum foil. they were found three weeks ago. if you find anything similar, don't touch them and call police. if you live in d.c. and want a private security camera but can't afford it. the district has a new program

police in jupiter florida are expected to release dash cam video of monday's arrest. a police report yesterday said officers found woods asleep behind the wheel with the car running. once they woke him up he was sluggish with slurred speech. breath alialyzer said woods was sleeping. it has put a face on the issue of drugged driving. >> they're showing a special dwi squad that's been deployed in fairfax county for about a year now. these officers work the night shift and dedicate all their time to stopping drugged and drunk drivers. >> they're looking for all of the signs of impairment, whether it's from alcohol or it's from drugs. and they're looking to get those dangerous drivers off the streets. >> the dwi officers are also now getting new special training with experts. that way, officers can pick up on more suttle

united airlines could soon face a big fine. the faa is proposing a $435,000 fine for a safety issue back in 2014. now, that's when the airline allegedly opened a boeing 787 that was not air-worthy. united has asked to meet with the faa to discuss this case. a spokesman said, quote, the safety of our customers and employees is our top priority. in a world with grub hub, and uber eats, trying to get in on the action. now, denny's says you can order food for delivery. about half of denny's restaurants will allow third parties to pick up pancakes and other meals and take think to your door. you order the food by sending denny's a message on twitter or through the restaurant app. denny's has an app. good news for any parents hit for a bill for the in-app
