wounded in a rampage in london on saturday night. while all the suspects were fatally shot by police officers authorities continue to investigate. they said 12 people have been arrested and law enforcement was churching a number in east london. nbc's chief foreign correspondent has more on this latest attack. >> just before 10:00 p.m. a van began to speed across london bridge jumping on and off the curb, swerving into pedestrians. coming to a halt on a street filled with bars and restaurants. >> just, you know, an accident. >> so the van came to a crashing stop? >> yeah. >> reporter: this group of londoners out for a birthday celebration then saw three men jump out of the van that nearly hit them armed with knives. >> i think the bar manager, stabbed him like ten

>> he stepped in? >> yeah. >> reporter: this shows the men walking calmly through the market looking for their next victim. >> i managed to run away from him. >> he was running at you? >> yeah. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams arrive quickly and enforce bar goers to get down. within minutes all three suspects were killed by armed officers. the vests the attackers were wearing that looked like suicide bombs turned out to be fake. the rampage left 7 dead and nearly 50 injured. many critically. now investigators are tracking down friends and relatives of the attackers to find out if they were part of a wider network. >> richard, thank you. now to lindsey who is in london. what can you tell us about officials response to the attack? >> reporter: good morning, as you can imagine this is an

police loworking hard to close on the network behind these attackers. they believe the incidents were carried out by the three men but they're obviously trying to figure out who else they knew and what may have motivated them and what other accomplices they may have had. several people taken in for questions but no arrests. yesterday 12 arrests, 7 women, 5 men ages ranging from 17 to 50 and this morning 11 remain in custody. isis claiming responsibility for this attack saying it was carried out by islamic state fighters but the question is out over whether they actively planned this or are simply capitalizing on this tragedy. teresa may pledging to do a sweeping overhaul of the u.k.'s counter terrorism policy as campaigning gets underway today for thursday election. we're also getting more details on some of the

one of them, a 30-year-old canadian citizen has been confirmed killed in that attack. the french embassy says one of its citizens has been killed as well. they have not named that citizen. 7 french people have been injured and one remaining missing and two australians were also wounded in yesterday and -- pardon me -- sunday night's tragic attack. there will be a candle light vigil for 6:00 p.m. local time as people here in london and frankly, all over the world gather tore grieve. >> lucy, thank you. late last night a fund-raiser for ford three yater in washington president trump made his first public comments about the attack. >> america sends our thoughts, our prayers and our deepest sympathies to the victims of this evil slaughter and we renew our resolve, stronger than ever before, to protect the united states and it's allies from a
