suspects who attacked a man who thought he was hailing a ride home. he got the ride and a lot more. jackie bensen broke the story on twitter today. she has more details. >> reporter: the place where the victim initially came into kwakt with his assailants is very close to downtown bethesda. the victim was walking on wilson lane in bethesda about 1:00 sunday morning. even at that hour the street sees a good amount of foot traffic. >> i'm usually with other people so that adds to me feeling safe. >> reporter: police say the victims accepted a ride from two men in what is described as a small silver suv. the victim may have believed the vehicle was taxi or uber. police say he asked him to take him to thorough drive about two

once he got out of the suv and started walking to the front door the two men jumped him, punched and kicked him and stabbed him multiple times. the victim was taken to a local hospital. his injuries are serious but described as nonlife threatening and police say he was not robbed. >> you always have to be on your toes and on the lookout. anywhere anything can happen. >> reporter: police are asking people who live on the streets around there to take a look at any security camera images they may have from that time around 1:00 sunday morning and to contact them. they need to find more pictures of the silver suv. live in bethesda, jackie bensen, news 4. new tonight a federal jury convicted an alexandria man accused of going to syria to join isis. he testified that he went to see what the terrorist group is all about and later

prosecutors say he knew exactly what he was doing and carefully planned his travel to avoid detection and create alibis. jury convicted him on three counts. he faces up to life in prison. his sentencing is set for october. the cap and gown he never had a chance to wear were on display. somebody opened fire as the two teens sat in a parked car in montgomery village monday night a day before their high school graduation. a barrage of bullets came from both directions. police tell us there were 23 shots total from two guns. investigators aren't saying if the teens were set up. najar's cousin thinks it is possible. >> you don't fire 22 rounds into somebody you don't know. if you just want to kill to kill i believe you -- that is just personal. >> the m

sources say one of the victims was found clutching a $20 bill. a baltimore county police officer is in serious condition but is expected to survive after a shootout. the gunman died after trading shots with police from a commuter bus. another by stander was also shot and survived. police say officers surrounded the bus and the suspect tried to use it to get away from an armed robbery. police say he started shooting and then officers fired back. some people forced off the bus posted videos on social media. police have not yet identified the shooter. keep your eye on this backhoe. you see them all the time on construction sites. this one in particular caused a lot of destruction. the driver tried to use it to bust into an atm in district heights. as news 4's shomari stone tells us tonight it is a lot tougher than it looks. >> reporter: i'm here in district heights,

it is a new one. the old one was destroyed. prince georges county police say this thief committed two crimes and got nothing in return. police say he stole a backhoe from this residential neighborhood and drove it five miles to a bank of america in district heights. there he used the backhoe to try to break into one of the atms. despite the efforts he was unable to get money out of the machine. police say there was about $10,000, however, worth of damage done to the bank. police believe the same suspect broke into another atm last march with two accomplices and stole cash. i talked to a police spokesperson who teld me police have made no arrests. detectives urge anyone with information about this to call the prince george s county police department. i'm shomari stone, news 4. it w
