not under investigation in any russian probe. that is part of the opening statement that james comey is planning on giving in the morning. the former fbi head does not accuse president trump of obstruction but confirms that the president did try to change the course of the russia investigation. the ranking democrat is watching these developments very closely. he told the "washington post" tonight what happens next is still very uncertain. >> even if you can make a legal case that that amounts to obstruction, would you be able to persuade in a republican congress enough of gop members that they can go back home and explain to the republican constituents that the president's conduct is so disqualifying that he cannot remain in office and that this is not just an effort to nullify

suspects who attacked a man who thought he was hailing a ride home. he got the ride and a lot more. jackie bensen broke the story on twitter today. she has more details. >> reporter: the place where the victim initially came into kwakt with his assailants is very close to downtown bethesda. the victim was walking on wilson lane in bethesda about 1:00 sunday morning. even at that hour the street sees a good amount of foot traffic. >> i'm usually with other people so that adds to me feeling safe. >> reporter: police say the victims accepted a ride from two men in what is described as a small silver suv. the victim may have believed the vehicle was taxi or uber. police say he asked him to take him to thorough drive about two

once he got out of the suv and started walking to the front door the two men jumped him, punched and kicked him and stabbed him multiple times. the victim was taken to a local hospital. his injuries are serious but described as nonlife threatening and police say he was not robbed. >> you always have to be on your toes and on the lookout. anywhere anything can happen. >> reporter: police are asking people who live on the streets around there to take a look at any security camera images they may have from that time around 1:00 sunday morning and to contact them. they need to find more pictures of the silver suv. live in bethesda, jackie bensen, news 4. new tonight a federal jury convicted an alexandria man accused of going to syria to join isis. he testified that he went to see what the terrorist group is all about and later

prosecutors say he knew exactly what he was doing and carefully planned his travel to avoid detection and create alibis. jury convicted him on three counts. he faces up to life in prison. his sentencing is set for october. the cap and gown he never had a chance to wear were on display. somebody opened fire as the two teens sat in a parked car in montgomery village monday night a day before their high school graduation. a barrage of bullets came from both directions. police tell us there were 23 shots total from two guns. investigators aren't saying if the teens were set up. najar's cousin thinks it is possible. >> you don't fire 22 rounds into somebody you don't know. if you just want to kill to kill i believe you -- that is just personal. >> the m

sources say one of the victims was found clutching a $20 bill. a baltimore county police officer is in serious condition but is expected to survive after a shootout. the gunman died after trading shots with police from a commuter bus. another by stander was also shot and survived. police say officers surrounded the bus and the suspect tried to use it to get away from an armed robbery. police say he started shooting and then officers fired back. some people forced off the bus posted videos on social media. police have not yet identified the shooter. keep your eye on this backhoe. you see them all the time on construction sites. this one in particular caused a lot of destruction. the driver tried to use it to bust into an atm in district heights. as news 4's shomari stone tells us tonight it is a lot tougher than it looks. >> reporter: i'm here in district heights,

it is a new one. the old one was destroyed. prince georges county police say this thief committed two crimes and got nothing in return. police say he stole a backhoe from this residential neighborhood and drove it five miles to a bank of america in district heights. there he used the backhoe to try to break into one of the atms. despite the efforts he was unable to get money out of the machine. police say there was about $10,000, however, worth of damage done to the bank. police believe the same suspect broke into another atm last march with two accomplices and stole cash. i talked to a police spokesperson who teld me police have made no arrests. detectives urge anyone with information about this to call the prince george s county police department. i'm shomari stone, news 4. it w

it has been six months since lines of cars tried to get inside on their opening day. the casino tells us business has been booming. before mgm opened some neighbors worried that it would create traffic headaches and more crime. now some former skeptics say it hasn't been as bad as they feared. >> we haven't seen the traffic from the casino except at special events which we can plan around. and the crime that we expected we don't see. >> prince george's county police chief made the casino a priority to keep the peace with neighbors and to keep the traffic flowing. so far mgm has created 4,000 jobs. the woman accused of leaking a highly classified report about russian interference in our u.s. election is due in court tomorrow. her attorney says she will plead not guilty. reality winner was a

it could happen to any parent but it doesn't have to. that's the message tonight from a virginia couple devastated by the loss of their son. >> they were just one of the families on capitol hill today urging all car makers to make a small change that could save hundreds of lives. >> i pray every day for chase. >> chase harrison was 21 months old in july of 2008. his dad was supposed to drop him off at daycare before he went to work. >> my world changed forever on that day. >> reporter: miles harrison says he didn't realize what it happened until 5:00 when a co worker asked him a question he didn't understand. >> do you have a doll in your car? i ripped open the car door and pulled him from the car seat unaware of anyone around and ran into the office with him in my arms

investigators estimate damages could top $125,000. scammers have found a new way to steal your money at the gas pump. fairfax county police tell us they are seeing a growing trend of blu tooth skimming devices hiding where we can't see them. the devices can siphon your credit card information when you swipe at the pump. police tell us you can protect yourself by sticking to newer gas pumps and not using older ones and they say you should always pay with credit and not debit. we want to make sure you know about a big event to help support hundreds of amazing nonprofits. it is called do more 24. more than 600 nonprofit organizations are trying to see how much money they can raise in 24 hours. nbc 4 is partnering with the united way to put on the fundraising drive. you can see staff
