>> good morning to you. in bethesda, reminder outbound river at goldsboro, one lane getting by. this should be cleaned up pretty soon, i think. they had all of the in bound, those routes into town and out of town, just fine. route 1, bw parkway. in virginia, 66 okay so is 95 northbound. southbound a little slowdown as you're heading towards quantico. three different things happening on the beltway. outer loop at old georgetown, and university and branch none of them causing a slowdown. 5:01. this could be one of the most important days of the trump administration. a matter of hours former fbi director james comey will take a seat before lawmakers and tell his story. this will no doubt be one of the most closely watched congressional hearings in years. >> it will get the attention of people in this c

around the world. here's a live look at capitol hill where things are quiet for now. that will not be the case at 10:00 a.m. when james comey starts to speak. we're already getting a look at some of what he plans to say. >> news 4's kristin wright continues our coverage from the newsroom. kristin. >> reporter: aaron and eun, we have a copy of comey's prepared testimony right now. here are some key take aways. nowhere in comey's prepared statement does he directly say he believes the president broke the law, but comey does say several times that he found the president's communications with him to be, quote, concerning, inappropriate and very awkward. comey told trump that he wasn't under investigation. the former fbi director asserts that first as president-elect and then as president trump pressured him to tell him whether he was personally under investigation in connection to the russia probe. comey says he offered that assurance on january 6th and march 30th

the incident started when the victim started from two men from a small silver suv. he was picked up around 1:00 in the morning on sunday. he was dropped off on thoreau drive and that's when he was attack attacked. the victim is expected to survive. it took months but now this fire in dc has been officially ruled a homicide. the fire broke out on queens street back in the northeast in january. crews found an unconscious man inside the apartment. the medical examiner just determined that the cause of death was smoke inhalation and soot inhalation. it leads to an arrest in this case. >> two local families will not get to see their sons go off to college this fall. the cap and gown the student never had a chance to wear were on display at his

the 17-year-old's murder is getting a lot of attention. he was shot to death with his friend. they were sitting together in a parked car sunday night. the day before their high school graduation. there were 23 shots from two guns. investigators won't say whether they were set up but his cousin thinks it was. >> it had to be personal. you don't fire 23 rounds into somebody you don't know. you want to kill to kill, that's just personal. >> now the motive here is unclear, but sources tell news 4 that one of the victims was holding a $20 bill. it is 5:05. today the woman charged with leaking a secret nsa report is expected to plead not guilty in court. government contractor reality winner is hoping to be released on bond today. the air force veteran worked for a private contractor in georgia where she was arrested saturday. winner is charged with removing classified materiaro

government facility and mailing it to a news outlet. an alexandria man will be sentenced in october. he was convicted yesterday. he went to syria to see what the terrorist group was all about, but prosecutors say he carefully planned his travel to avoid detection and create alibis. he faces up to life in prison. 5:06 right now. start saving extra money. we have one final weekend to enjoy free parking along the national mall. starting on monday the national park service is going to activate those parking meters into popular areas. we've drawn some red lines on the map here to show you where they are. the only free parking will be on ohio drive. the parking meters are supposed to help prevent drivers from hogging free parking spaces. the meters will cost $2 an hour. mgm national harbor opened its doorgs six months ago. a lot of people are asking, how's it going

defending myself. >> the man charged in that deadly stabbing on a train in portland, oregon, had another outburst in court. you heard jeremy christian shouting at the man who survived that stabbing. micah fletcher was inside the court there. facing 15 charges including aggravated murder and attempted murder. christian yelled hateful comments to two muslim women on that train. fletcher and two other men were stabbed defending them. british prime minister theresa may just cast her vote in the national election. she hopes to increase her conservative party's majority and to strengthen her hand in european union exit talks. i'm kristin wright at the live desk. new information this morning in the investigation into those deadly attacks on london bridge. we've learned that police have arrested three more people, counter terrorism officials picked up two men on the str

a third man was arrested at a house near there. these attacks killing eight people on saturday. 50 people hurt when militants drove a car into pedestrians on london bridge. they also went over to bars and restaurants and attacked people with knives there. police there in london have arrested more than a dozen people so far. most of them have been released, however, without being charged. aaron, back to you. >> all right. kristin, thank you. 5:13 now. it may be hard to believe, but it's already been six months since mgm national harbor opened. who can forget the lines that snaked around the resort back in december. this morning many are wondering was the county's roll of the dice worth it? >> we're live with a progress report of sorts. derrick, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. you stole my gambling metaphor. now i've got to think. how dare you. we're at mgm grand casino. it put

national harbor. it was, indeed, a gamble to put a casino here. is that paying off? there's lots of preparation that went into this. traffic was a major concerned. they were worried about 210 being overwhelmed. officials went to las vegas and studied traffic patterns and customer patterns. when this place opened in december, they had 100 officers assigned. they're down to a dozen. revenue has been a big concern as county officials say it's been about $11 million per month. that's sort of on the low side, the minimum. it can be even higher depending on the events and type of events that they have. the infrastructure along the 210 corridor, about 1800 to 2,000 or 3,000 according to county officials. what are they expecting for the next six months? >> the more money we can get in, the more money the county gets in terms of taxes, the revenue,

kinds of things. >> reporter: now i can tell you this is an impressive facility and it fits into some other infrastructures that come from the county. of course, national hare ber and tanger outlets up the road. they're working together to coordinate. that's alleviating a lot of those traffic concerns. coming up later, more about this facility and its being six months old right now. we're live here at national harbor. derrick ward, news 4, back to you. are they making any changes now at the six month mark going forward? >> well, probably after a year. that's when the police chief said that he was going to reassess the traffic patterns and the number of officers they have here. as for other things, you know, there's been a lot of development that's gone up since the casino and whole facility has gone up as well. that's going to factor into that, too. i think we're going to look at the 12 month mark, the anniversary, to see what changes are going to be made if

officer is in serious condition not expe but expected to survive. the gunman died after trading shots with police from a commuter bus yesterday. a bystander was also shot and survived. officers surrounded the bus when suspects tried to use it to get away from an armed robbery. the suspect started shooting and that's when officers fired back. police have still not identified the gunman. today the man at the center of the popular serial podcast is again asking for a brand-new trial. adnan sayed was convicted back in 2000. then they said his lawyer was not effective and his conviction should be overturned. the state appealed the decision and there's a hearing about in annapolis today. a maryland mother will spend more than four decades in prison for killing her two young children. sonya spoon was

after admitting to police she suffocated her children, 2-year-old aiden and 3-year-old kayla. she was sentenced wednesday to 45 years in prison. she pleaded guilty back in march. well, your car alerts you when you've left your keys in the ignition or that your headlights are still on, perhaps. now there's a new push for cars to require you if your child has been left behind in the back of the car. this requires all cars to have an alert system informing drivers they've forgotten someone in the back seat. now this bill has cars to have a combination of an audio and visual alarm and hopes that it will remind drivers to check the back seat after they turn off the engine. a lot of times it's just a change in routine that makes people forget that your child is in the car. >> that will be technology well used. >> for

inside the beltway. this is a look at chopper 4 of how all of this will work. these signs are going to be going soon. eastbound tolls in the morning, westbound in the afternoon. if you have two or more people in the car you can still use that road for free, otherwise, you have to pay during rush hour. if you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road this morning, be sure to move over a lane and slow down. that is the message this month from local law enforcement, and here's why. the move over law in virginia is meant to prevent crashes like this one from happening. loudoun county deputies launched a new social media campaign this month to get the word out. maryland also has a move over law. technology could allow self-driving cars to do all the work. >> it would let you sleep behind the wheel. >>
