main lanes and local lanes running quite likely. we'll have travel times coming up. melissa, thank you. 6:02. the countdown is on. we are just now under 4 hours away from a hearing that people in this country and around the world have been waiting for. former fbi director james comey's testimony before congress. this is setting up to be one of the most closely watched congressional hearings in years. >> take a live look now at capitol hill where things are quiet. that will not be the case at 10:00 a.m. when comey tells his story. news 4's kristin wright has a look at what he plans to say. kristin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron and eun. the release of james comey's testimony was a big surprise yesterday. we've broken down four things you need to know about it. nowhere in comey's prepared statement does he directly say he believes the president broke the law, but comey does say several times that he found the president's communications with

prep rate and, quote, very awkward. comey told trump he wasn't under investigation. he asserts first as president-elect and then as president trump pressured him to tell him whether he was personally under investigation in connection with the russia probe. comey said he offered that assurance on january 6th and march 30th. comey confirms reports that he told associates that the president tried to get him to drop the investigation of former national security advisor michael flynn. you can expect a lot of guess that. comey says he had nine one-on-one conversations with the president over nine months. comey said he spoke with trump twice in person. it will be interesting. aaron, back to you. >> kristin, thank you. nbc news special coverage of today's hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. you can watch

be sure to watch the "today" show right after news 4 today. savannah guthrie is here in washington reporting on the lead up to the hearing. today the woman charged with leaking a secret nsa report is expected to plead not guilty in court. government contractor reality winner hopes to be released on bond today. winner is charged with moving classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet. the search is on. the motive here is unclear. one of the victims was found holding a $20. yesterday his cap and gown that he never had a chance to wear were on display at his funeral. he was found shot to death along with 18-year-old friend. they were sitting in a parked car on monday night, the day before their high school

graduation. police say there were 23 shots in total from two guns. also montgomery county right now, you may be able to help police put two violent men behind bars. investigators are asking for surveillance video on or near thoreau drive in bethesda. a 23-year-old man was stabbed and beaten. the incident started when the victim accepted a ride from two men in a small silver suv. the vehicle was picked up on sunday morning. may have thought he was getting a ride share vehicle. he was dropped off on thoreau drive and that's when he was attacked. he is expected to survive. after months of investigating, this fire in the district has been ruled a homicide or the death that resulted from this fire. it broke out on queens street in northeast back in january. crews found a man dead inside that apartment. the medical examiner said the cause of death is smoke and soot inhalation as wells

blunt force injuries. $25,000 reward leads to an arrest in this case. we now know a light fixture is to blame for this fire in restin. fairfax county fire says the lights melt. the firefighter who fell through the floor is expected to be okay. developing story in prince george's county. someone tried to use a backhoe to break into an atm in district heights and now police are trying to track him down. look at this video here. prince george's county police say someone stole the backhoe. they think this may not be the only atm he's tried to break into. at 6:30 we'll show you more of this video and show you what police know about this person so far. live look from the city kam into t -- cam into the district. there it is.

this is on pope street. you can see just how bad this fire was. this town house is there, you can see just that dark black color from all of the fire. firefighters say they do have this one under control at this point but that there was a lot of heavy fire when they got there. now two firefighters we understand were taken to the hospital. we're told their injuries were not serious and they should all recover. four units there, look at that, really bad damage. amazing that no one was hurt too badly in this one, but four town house units look like they're destroyed there altogether there on pope street and manassas. a lot of people with no place to stay and right now the red cross is helping them out. back to you. kristin wright. we're less than four hours from the testimony of james comey. a live report from

police arrested him for domestic violence on tuesday at a wegmans. simmons is due in court on monday. in news 4 your health this morning, today leaders in prince george's county will discuss whether to stock vending machines with more heart healthy options. the bill would require half of the items to meet the recommended health standards. if they pass the bill, it would then go to the full county council on june 27th. happening today, you're going to see the transformation of district flagship library. mayor muriel bowser will be there when they start renovating the library. first thing they're going to do is remove a massive oil painting of martin luther king jr. himself. this is a library on f street near

they're changing the look, adding a cafe, rooftop and project center. it will take three more years. 16 after the hour and it was a cold december night when thousands made their way into the mgm national harbor resort casino. >> the resort has been open for six months. the morning question is was the county's gamble on mgm national harbor worth it? news 4's derrick ward is live there with a report card. good morning, derrick. >> reporter: good morning again. we're now inside the conserva r conservatory of the mgm grand casino. this is what it's all about on this warm june day. we are looking at the six-month mark since this casino opened. it's been a success by a lot of measures of people in the county. one of the measures is revenue, and county officials say it's generated about $11 million per month. now that is good by any measure. and they sayha

indeed, helping with the infrastructure along the 210 corridor where it is located. jobs, about 1800 to 3,000 jobs. that is also something that is pleasing to county officials. there was a lot of trepidation about the traffic that this may cause along 210 especially when they have big events here. it was no small fete to get this all done. as we hear from the police chief, they've been planning for a couple of years before it opened. >> as we stand here at the beginning of june we still don't know what 4th of july at mgm looks like. we still don't know what the holiday season at mgm looks like and so we have been able to reduce our footprints in terms of efforting as the public has become familiar with the roadway changes. >>

firefighters have already been released from the hospital. let's show you the scene in prince williams territory. it started in one and did spread. a total of five townhouses impacted by this fire. a number of people have been displaced as a result of this early morning fire. i was talking to some of them. they were trying to figure out how exactly it happened and what their next steps are going to be. you can see them here listening. one of the women i talked to in the red jacket said she was asleep at 12:45 this morning when there was a knock on her door from the fire department telling her to get out of the house. she came outside and saw all of the smoke, saul all of the flames. obviously not the way you want to start your day. the good news is there were no serious injuries. two firefighters hurt. they've been released to the hospital. another civilian, that's how it was described to

>> relax. >> advisory neighborhood commissioner kendall simmons is back in the news this morning be for a domestic violence incident. you might remember the video of him being arrested in the district last week. he says he was roughed up by officers. officials are now reviewing body camera video in that case. now we're learning about another incident involving simmons in prince george's county. police arrested him for domestic violence at a wegmans on tuesday. the elected owe fegsal from southeast d.c. grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and punched her. he's due in court on monday. this could be a crucial day in the russia investigation. former fbi director james comey will testify before lawmakers later this morning. we start with news 4's kristin wright in the newsroom. kristin? >> reporter: aaron and eun, we already know w

>> i i'm really interested in rop ca republicans and the questions they ask. do they end up trying to prosecute comey or do they ask probing questions as well. what i'm fascinated by is donald trump's lawyer says he's been totally vindicated by what james comey ended up saying. that had to do with james comey saying donald trump wasn't a person of interest when it came to the counter espionage investigation, but what is fascinating is is that in comey's testimony he ends up saying hey on the michael flynn thing, i want you to let that go. in a news conference that president trump gave back in may he said, i never said that about michael flynn, next question. so there's a big contradiction there. i wouldn't be surprised if that becomes a very big part of today's hearing. >> we know a lot of people are watching it very closely to see what comes out of it. >> thank you. >> wish we had more time. nbc's special coverage of
