we are getting new reaction from our local lawmakers. the virginia senator mark warner attended the classified, closed-door briefing, but he didn't have anything to say when he came out of there. we caught up with some other senators from maryland and virginia, they didn't hold back on what they heard today. >> when you have somebody trying to tell the fbi director, i want you to lift the cloud and stop this investigation, that's basically what he was saying, that's the way everybody interprets it. there's no way you can excuse that. there's no way you can excuse that. >> two things. one, that president trump demanded that he give him personal loyalty over the u.s. constitution, and number two, that he dropped the investigation into michael flynn and other issues the fbi was pursuing and that when he didn't, he got fired. that should be troubling for anybody who cares about the rule of law.

investigation itself would be shut down and he admitted that hopes that it would lead to the appointment of a special counsel. comey gave that to a friend to pass along to the "new york times" and said, i thought it was very important to get that out. he also revealed the obama administration tried to influence the fbi probe into hillary clinton's e-mails. comey said former attorney general, loretta lynch asked him to call it a matter, instead of an investigation. he said that was inaccurate and it gave him a queasy feeling. he also cleared up a mystery from the day after the inauguration. you've likely seen this video several times over the past six months. president trump calls comey over, bypasses the handshake, and pulls him in for a hug. comey said the president whispered, i really look forward to working with you. because in a private dinner six days later, comey told him, a

lot of peopl he would understand if comey walked away. >> chris, thank you. we've heard a lot of reaction to the comey hearing today, but what was it like in the room for this event, which was much anticipated. >> that's right. you were there in that room, live tweeting at the time. you've got to give us a sense of what it must have been like to be in that room. >> i was. it was intense. there was an edge of your seat feeling. people were hanging on every word. and outside the room in one of the senate office buildings, hundreds of people were lined up from one senate office building all the way to the next building. and about 20 minutes before the start, the man at the very end of the line told me, i'm just here to witness history. he was just trying to get in. it wasn't looking good for him, though. >> did you get a sense there was tension in the room? it was really packed to the gills. it looks like there was only

standing room. >> every seat did seem tense. everyone was hanging on every word. >> for those of us who were watching on television, what is it you would -- what is it that we missed, if we were watching it on television and you were there in the room, what is it that you think we should know that we didn't see? >> there were a few nice moments. for example, when comey said that he needed to miss a date with his wife the night that trump invited him to dinner, there was a big aaaw reaction in the room. there was another cute moment that you might not have heard on tv. a couple moments where the crowd laughed. when he said lordy, i hope there are tapes. there was a bit of a laugh. >> we used the lordy word earlier. >> that was a tension breaker, in fact. >> it was. >> a little bit. certainly an experience for you. >> it was, it was. it was fascinating to be right

the so-called recruiter sent $100 for herself, and use the remaining funds to buy computer software. >> i questioned it at that point. it looked not right. >> reporter: and thankfully, so did johanna's bank. >> so i called the bank manager, and she said absolutely, that's a scam, they would not process it. >> reporter: nbc4 responds reached out to them. we noticed this, a recruiting alert on his home page, alerting jobseekers to be on the lookout for fraudulent recruiters. an alert jobseekers didn't see. >> what brought you to me? >> i wanted to alert other people about this. it's not right they can do this, and that people can be so taken in. >> like any job board that you would apply to, there is inherently a risk something

to a devastating six town houses were damaged this morning in a fire in manassas. >> three of them may be total losses. damages could top $1 million. news4's darcy spencer has more. >> reporter: this fire happened at a very dangerous time. 12:45 in the morning, when many people were asleep. take a look at what's left behind here. people were hurt, but fortunately everyone is going to be okay. a home surveillance camera system captured the flames on the right part of your screen and the sounds of fire trucks first arriving. >> i was sleeping. and they came and knocked on the door and woke us up and told us there was a fire and we had to get out right away. >> peggy martin bagged up framed photo salvaged from the place she called home for the last 20 years. >> family pictures, yes. >> going back a long time? >> yes, very. all my grandkids.
