we are getting new reaction from our local lawmakers. the virginia senator mark warner attended the classified, closed-door briefing, but he didn't have anything to say when he came out of there. we caught up with some other senators from maryland and virginia, they didn't hold back on what they heard today. >> when you have somebody trying to tell the fbi director, i want you to lift the cloud and stop this investigation, that's basically what he was saying, that's the way everybody interprets it. there's no way you can excuse that. there's no way you can excuse that. >> two things. one, that president trump demanded that he give him personal loyalty over the u.s. constitution, and number two, that he dropped the investigation into michael flynn and other issues the fbi was pursuing and that when he didn't, he got fired. that should be troubling for anybody who cares about the rule of law.

election. british prime minister theresa may hopes to increase her party's majority of parliament before brexit talks with the european union. may is expected to win, but recent terror attacks have reduced her lead over the left-wing labour party. the woman charged with leaking an nsa document about russian hacking is expected to plead not guilty today. she was arrested on saturday and accused of leaking the document to an online newspaper the intercept. al jazeera said it's dealing with a large-scale cyber attack. they are the flagship broadcast network for qatar, which is engaged in a stand-off with saudi arabia over alleged ties to terrorism. and the dow hit a record high today after there were no perceived bombshells from the comey testimony. but other factors

we have this warning from fairfax county preying on the chinese community by selling them fake gold. a local man lost $9,000 to these scammers. police say the con-men claim to have discovered gold buried around 1920 and they give the victim a small piece to have tested, which is authentic. the scammers then ask for cash in exchange for the rest of the gold. detectives arrested three people accused of running the scam in montgomery county. going to cost you more to take uber or lyft to the dwi airport. there will be an airport fee of $2.50 per trip. the added cost will be passed -- -- passed on to customers. we are just two days away now from capital pride weekend, the annual parade starts

was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader. those were lies, plain and simple. >> early on, the former fbi director jim comey made it clear he had an awkward end, at times contentious relationship with president trump. the former fbi director had some concerns about the president's behavior in the months leading up to his termination. >> turning now to chris lawrence with a look at the four big things that we learned from today's senate hearing. chris? >> that clip you just showed said it all. there was no one gotcha moment, but we learned that when it comes to the russia investigation, the man running the fbi didn't trust the very people he worked for, including the president himself. james comey said he started taking notes on his conversations with president trump because, i was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of that meeting. comey was also worried the

investigation itself would be shut down and he admitted that hopes that it would lead to the appointment of a special counsel. comey gave that to a friend to pass along to the "new york times" and said, i thought it was very important to get that out. he also revealed the obama administration tried to influence the fbi probe into hillary clinton's e-mails. comey said former attorney general, loretta lynch asked him to call it a matter, instead of an investigation. he said that was inaccurate and it gave him a queasy feeling. he also cleared up a mystery from the day after the inauguration. you've likely seen this video several times over the past six months. president trump calls comey over, bypasses the handshake, and pulls him in for a hug. comey said the president whispered, i really look forward to working with you. because in a private dinner six days later, comey told him, a

lot of peopl he would understand if comey walked away. >> chris, thank you. we've heard a lot of reaction to the comey hearing today, but what was it like in the room for this event, which was much anticipated. >> that's right. you were there in that room, live tweeting at the time. you've got to give us a sense of what it must have been like to be in that room. >> i was. it was intense. there was an edge of your seat feeling. people were hanging on every word. and outside the room in one of the senate office buildings, hundreds of people were lined up from one senate office building all the way to the next building. and about 20 minutes before the start, the man at the very end of the line told me, i'm just here to witness history. he was just trying to get in. it wasn't looking good for him, though. >> did you get a sense there was tension in the room? it was really packed to the gills. it looks like there was only

to a devastating six town houses were damaged this morning in a fire in manassas. >> three of them may be total losses. damages could top $1 million. news4's darcy spencer has more. >> reporter: this fire happened at a very dangerous time. 12:45 in the morning, when many people were asleep. take a look at what's left behind here. people were hurt, but fortunately everyone is going to be okay. a home surveillance camera system captured the flames on the right part of your screen and the sounds of fire trucks first arriving. >> i was sleeping. and they came and knocked on the door and woke us up and told us there was a fire and we had to get out right away. >> peggy martin bagged up framed photo salvaged from the place she called home for the last 20 years. >> family pictures, yes. >> going back a long time? >> yes, very. all my grandkids.
