giving you the latest information on the breaking news in the district this morning. a pickup truck hit two d.c. police officers and a ddot employee. >> it happened last night in the heart of the adams morgan neighborhood. we start with news 4's megan mcgrath live at med star hospital. megan? >> reporter: well, the injured were taken here to the emergency room at med star washington hospital. one of those d.c. police officers is described by the police chief as being in, quote, very critical condition. that was the update late last night. the other officer and the d.c. traffic control aide, they are said to be seriously injured but are expected to make it. their injuries not life threatening. the two officers were on bicycle patrol when they were struck by this pickup truck in adams morgan last night. witnesses say that one of those officers was thrown 30 feet. now the mayor and the chief of police were here at the hospital late last night. chief newsham,er

street. the investigation still taking place just up the road from where i'm standing. let's show more of the video from last night. as aaron described it it was, in fact, very chaotic. it was a beautiful night last night as you remember. there were a lot of people out at the bars and restaurants when they heard this horrifying screech as one witness described it. that was the sound of this pickup truck striking these officers, striking that d.c. government employee. many people stopped what they were doing, ran out into the streets. you can see that from the video and just simply horrified by what they were seeing. officer down in the streets. as you said, one person said that it appeared that the officer was thrown from his bike 30 feet. we're going to hear from one man who came to the aid of one of the officers. he described himself as a military veteran. he wanted to make sure the officer was okay. >> the officers were standing probably 25 yards in that direction and were yelling at the truck

>> this happened last night shortly after 7:00. just about 500 feet from the long branch local park. the teens are expected to be okay. two suspects were arrested. their names have not been released. family and friends will gather this weekend to remember a young man gunned down hours before his graduation. his funeral will be held in germantown. the 18-year-old was killed on monday. he was with a 17-year-old friend. it was the day before they were supposed to graduate from northwest high school. no arrests have been made. the man who skipped sentencing in a deadly drunk driving crash will see justice today. kenneth kelly admitted to slamming into another car while he was drunk in 2014. three women and two children were killed in that crash. then kelly never showed up for his sentencing. police
