giving you the latest information on the breaking news in the district this morning. a pickup truck hit two d.c. police officers and a ddot employee. >> it happened last night in the heart of the adams morgan neighborhood. we start with news 4's megan mcgrath live at med star hospital. megan? >> reporter: well, the injured were taken here to the emergency room at med star washington hospital. one of those d.c. police officers is described by the police chief as being in, quote, very critical condition. that was the update late last night. the other officer and the d.c. traffic control aide, they are said to be seriously injured but are expected to make it. their injuries not life threatening. the two officers were on bicycle patrol when they were struck by this pickup truck in adams morgan last night. witnesses say that one of those officers was thrown 30 feet. now the mayor and the chief of police were here at the hospital late last night. chief newsham,er

about his officers. >> yeah, i feel horrible. you've got two of our officers doing exactly what we asked them to do in the adams morgan community. they actually were struck. thankfully nobody else was injured, but i have two of my officers in there unnecessarily in the hospital. >> reporter: i will be here all morning long continuing to monitor or get updates on the condition of two officers as well as the ddot employee that were injured in this. obviously early in this investigation. a lot of questions. with more on that part of the story we're going over to darcy spencer. darcy? >> reporter: good morning, megan. we're over here in adams morgan. there is some road closures still in place. we want to show you where we are. we're at countward andbili bilt street. you canee

street. the investigation still taking place just up the road from where i'm standing. let's show more of the video from last night. as aaron described it it was, in fact, very chaotic. it was a beautiful night last night as you remember. there were a lot of people out at the bars and restaurants when they heard this horrifying screech as one witness described it. that was the sound of this pickup truck striking these officers, striking that d.c. government employee. many people stopped what they were doing, ran out into the streets. you can see that from the video and just simply horrified by what they were seeing. officer down in the streets. as you said, one person said that it appeared that the officer was thrown from his bike 30 feet. we're going to hear from one man who came to the aid of one of the officers. he described himself as a military veteran. he wanted to make sure the officer was okay. >> the officers were standing probably 25 yards in that direction and were yelling at the truck

the truck wasn't slowing down. truck was probably going 50 miles an hour and just hit them. >> reporter: now obviously the witnesses there were very upset by what they saw. that man in particular said he went and checked on one of the officers who was down on the ground. he said the officer did have a pulse. as megan just reported, the officers remain in the hospital this morning. we're continuing to follow the story. stay tuned to live coverage. we'll send it back to you. >> darcy spencer in adams morgan, thank you. kristin wright is at the live desk to see what people are saying about the awful crash online. >> reporter: strong reaction to what happened on social media. we're seeing quite a few tweets and instagram posts, people very concerned about these two officers and this ddot worker and what happened last night. some in that neighborhood tweeting out pictures that we saw of the scene there. d.c. fire and ems

>> this happened last night shortly after 7:00. just about 500 feet from the long branch local park. the teens are expected to be okay. two suspects were arrested. their names have not been released. family and friends will gather this weekend to remember a young man gunned down hours before his graduation. his funeral will be held in germantown. the 18-year-old was killed on monday. he was with a 17-year-old friend. it was the day before they were supposed to graduate from northwest high school. no arrests have been made. the man who skipped sentencing in a deadly drunk driving crash will see justice today. kenneth kelly admitted to slamming into another car while he was drunk in 2014. three women and two children were killed in that crash. then kelly never showed up for his sentencing. police

him. kelly faces more than 50 years in prison when he's sentenced in prince george's county court this afternoon. by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the work force had lost confidence in its leader, those were lies plain and simple. it's my judgment that i was fired because of the russia investigation. >> stunning revelations by former fbi director james comey in his nearly three hour hearing yesterday on capitol hill, but the main question coming out of that hearing, did president trump commit obstruction of justice? that's one of our four big take aways. comey said he is, quote, sure the special counsel will look into it. he said he made memos of his interactions with the president because he was, quote, honestly concerned the president might lie about it. >> comey admitted he leaked those memos hoping it would lead to a special counsel. fina

general jeff sessions' involvement in the russia probe, quote, problem ma particular but he couldn't talk about it in public. the president's personal lawyer fired back at comey yesterday and refuted his claims. more breaking news overnight in the election in brittain. it didn't go as expected. >> well, that's right, molette. when prime minister theresa may called for this election the polls said she would win even bigger majority, but she actually lost her majority in parliament. she is still the prime minister, but nobody holds enough seats to get things done on their own. the big deal here this morning is that may thought she would go into brexit negotiations with the country backing her up, but that's not going to happen now. some are already calling for her to resign. this is going to have an impact on how the united states deals with brittain because they are an active member of nato. theresa may is also, as you know, a close a

meetings, one with the russian foreign minister that also involved former national security adviser michael plin and the second one with the head of a russian bank. senators would like to know what those meetings were about. some say it's about back channel communications that they wanted to set up with the russians. they want to find out if there were any financial dealings set up in those meetings. >> edward, we didn't hear from the president yesterday. we did hear from his lawyer. what did he have to say? >> yeah. the lawyer basically saying that this is vindication for president donald trump. he's saying that james comey, the former fbi director, said that the president was never a target of the investigation while he was fbi director. he went on to say that comey's other accusations were disturbing. listen. >> the president never in form or substance directed or suggested that mr. comey stop

an undercover sting outside a tyson's corner motel. he used a dating website to meet men for sex in exchange for crystal meth. he's facing up to 40 years behind bars. he will be in the courtroom today. follow him on twitter for updates. the all clear has been given after a bomb threat caused a big scare at city hall in falls church. city police reopened the building last night. officers had to block off city hall and the community center while a bomb sniffing dog swept the hallways. meetings went on as sked zwruld this morning hearing from the former uva administrator. nicole aramo is speaking for the first time after her three week long trial. she sued the magazine and the author for defamation and asked for $7.5 million. she described what she felt after it was all said and done. >> you go

hoping to get justice, hoping to get people to take responsibility for their actions. i never felt like that happened. >> eramo also said that she knew going into the courtroom the first day that she told the truth. she was awarded $3 million. fairfax county public schools now have a new superintendent this morning. the school board has approved dr. scott braband. he was an assistant superintendant for a while before leading the lynchburg school system. he was in charge of 8,000 students there. now 185,000. >> the challenges in fairfax county public schools are real. the issues are complex. if we approach each other with open hearts, with open minds, we can and will find the solutions to our challenges. >> now the former superintendent, karen garza, resigned in september.
