officers. megan? >> reporter: well, that's right. we have some new information this morning coming from the police union, and it is encouraging. the union says that one of the d.c. police officers who were struck has been upgrade the from critical to serious condition. the second officer is now listed in fair condition. chief peter newsham along with the mayor. this horrible scligs an example of how dangerous law enforcement can be. >> i feel horrible. you have two of our officers doing exactly what we asked them to do in the adams morgan community. they actually were truck struck. i have two officers in there unnecessarily in the hospital. >> reporter: and also injured was

working for ddot. that person said to have serious injuries. so a long recovery here, but they are expected to be okay. back to you in the studio. >> megan mcgrath live for us. thank you, megan. >> news 4's darcy spencer is live there this morning with reaction from witnesses who saw this crash. darcy? >> reporter: good morning, molette. we want to make it very clear that two people were taken into custody as a result of this incident last night and police did find a weapon in that pickup truck. this is adams mill road. you can see this is a trash truck. this is basically where everything came to an end. there was a white pickup truck that crashed into this. the while is basically down on pavement. there was a work crew, it was

just about an hour ago that we were able to see the striking pickup truck being towed from the scene here. it was right in the 9:00 hour last night when this pickup came barrelling down 18th and columbia street right there at the main drag intersection here in adams morgan. it's an area that many people go to forth night life and bars. a lot of people saw and heard this impact. two d.c. police officers, they were bicycle officers, were struck and injured. we're told one was thrown some 30 feet. also, again, that transportation worker, all of them, like megan said, have been taken to the hospital. a lot of people rushed down to the bars and restaurants last night to see what had happened and they saw at least one of the officers down on the ground. let's hear from one man who is a military veteran who came to one of the officers' aid. >> the officers were standing 25

truck was probably going about 50 miles an hour and just him them. >> reporter: d.c. police are confirming that the pickup truck watts traveling through the area at a high rate of speed. it's a busy area, a lot of night life and a speeding truck coming through here with police, according to one witness, trying to get that truck to slow down, to stop, it just kept on going and, begin, crashing right here in the hard of adams morgan. while they said two people were taken into custody. darcy spencer, thank you so much. adams morgan is always crowded. it was a thursday night. a lot of people were there. they started tweeting pictures even before police made it to the scene here. as we found out more information, we saw

after 7:00 just about 500 feet from the long branch local park. the teens are expected to be okay. two suspects were arrested. family and friends will gather this weekend to remember a young man gunned down just hours before his high school graduation. artem zibrov's funeral needs to be held in germantown. they were both found shopped to my country. it was the day before they were supposed to graduate from northwest high school. the man who skipped sentencing in a deadly drunk driver crash will see justice today. three women and two children were killed in that crash. kelly never showed up for his sentencing. police did eventually catch him. kelly faces more than 50

in prison when he's sentenced in prince george's county court this afternoon. look, i've seen the tweet about tapes. lordy, i hope there are tapes. >> that's one of the many pieces of testimony. comey referring to the president's tweet last month suggesting their conversations may have been recorded. there are still questions coming out of that hearing, a lot of questions. >> the big one, did president trump commit an obstruction of justice. comey said he is, quote, sure the special counsel will look into t. he made memos of his interactions with the president because he was, quote, honestly concerned the president might lie about it. comey admitted that he leaked those memos hoping it would lead to a special counsel. finally, comey said there were facts that would make attorney general's

arrest. we just learned the condition of several of the officers has improved. let's go now to news 4's megan mcgrath live at med star washington hospital for details on that. >> reporter: yeah. we got an update from the police union, and it's good news. it's very encouraging. the union says that one of the d.c. officers has been upgraded from critical condition to serious condition. the second police officer is now listed in fair condition. that's an improvement there as well. now chief peter newsham was here at the hospital late last night along with the mayor. this horrible collision an example of just how dangerous law enforcement work can be. the two officers simply doing their jobs when they were hit. >> i have two of my officers in there unnecessarily in the hospital and it's really one of those things, it's the last thing in the world that a chief of police wants to have to do is come to the hospital when onef

inside a locker at hardy middle school in georgetown. two lockers were searched after school officials received a tip. the school was in lockdown mode for 25 minutes until the gun was found. virginia family is in mourning after a boy fell through a second story window. the child was playing as he leaned against a window screen and fell out. this is at least the third time in as many years that a child in northern virginia has been killed falling from a window. they suggest keeping furniture away from windows and installing stops and guards. they want community input on preliminary bike way master plan. this focuses on developing a high quality, low stress bike network throughout montgomery county. the master plan should be done and presented to the full board later this year. 6:35. workin

happen in the blink of an eye. 15 before the hour. if you're just waking up with us, we are tracking breaking news. two d.c. police officers and a city worker recovering after being hit by a pickup truck last night in adams morgan. >> we have team coverage this morning starting with news 4's darcy spencer. she is live at the scene there where it all happened. darcy? >> reporter: well, good morning. we are working to try to get more information this morning about the two people who were taken into custody in connection with this incident. the police chief telling us last night that two people were arrested. the driver and a passenger and that they found a weapon inside that pickup truck. again, waiting for an update. let's show you where we are right now. this is adams mill road just down the street from where the officers were hit. you can see this is a trash truck that that white pickup truck slammed into. basically ending the incident last night. show you some video. about an

so the white pickup truck was towed from the scene. now this all happened right around the 9:00 hour last night. we're told that the driver of the pickup truck was speeding up 18th street by columbia. that is the heart of adams morgan. a lot of people out at the bars and restaurants at that hour. apparently according to some witnesses, the police may have tried to get this truck to stop or slow down but this kept on going, hit the two dc police bicycle officers, kept going through the intersection and ended up here at adams mill road where the pickup truck slammed into the trash truck. again, a d.c. employee as we understand it was also injured. described as a transportation person providing some traffic assistance. megan mcgrath will update on the conditions of all of the people involved but, again, we're continuing to reach out to d.c. police to try to find out the latest update on this investigation. back to you. >> darcy spencer live for us in adams morgan. thank you. ou
