up warm humid air into the region. so here's what we're looking at today. temperatures anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees above average. chicago 93, pittsburgh 88, new york 95, charlotte 88, memphis will see a high of 88 and we're looking for records today om portland, burlington, scranton, boston, philadelphia, all the way to washington, d.c. this will be fairly short-lived after tomorrow which will be the worst day because the heat and humidity will bring heat indices up to 100 degrees but by thursday boston is 71, 81 in washington, new york 72, norfolk will see a temperature of about 80 degrees and, guys, the other thing we have to remind people is make sure you check on the elderly, make sure your pets have water and put something in the backseat of your car if you're transporting children to make sure you check because we don't want to report on any tragedies. >> good reminder. obviously the heat can be dangerous. al, we'll check back in in a minute. president trump facing new heat possibly as well. another busy week g

you through what will happen. two attorneys general saying they are planning to sue president trump and accuse him of violating anti-corruption clauses in the constitution. that lawsuit reportedly set to focus on alleged payments to businesses from for governments. all eyes will be back on the senate intelligence committee tomorrow. attorney generalf ns who recused himself from russia-related investigations, has now agreed to testify. he'll face tough questions about his contact with russian officials and his dealings with fired fbi director james comey. and on wednesday, the president celebrates his 71st birthday. in an e-mail, the first lady urged supporters to sign a special birth dare card that her husband "will never forget." and friday the president plans to outline new policies with cuba. he's expected to roll back some of the changes made by the obama white house that opened commerce and travel between the two nations after a half century. as you see, we have a lot to cover this week and let us start at the white house. nbc national correspondentpe

hi, peter, good morning. >> reporter: savannah, good morning. the new lawsuit t announced today accuses the president of violating the constitution by accepting gifts frof governments without the okay of congress. just the latest move by democrat attorneys general to chlee the president and his policies. the president is facingew legal troue, this time not relating to russia. the attorneys general of washington and maryland -- with the democrats -- are slated to announce a major lawsuit against the president this afternoon alleging he violated anti-corruption clauses in the constitution by accepting millions in payments and benefits from foreign governments since moving into the white house. essentially breaking his promise to keep his private business interests separate from his public role as president. you can see him here crashing a wedding reception on a property in new jersey saturday night. on sun

you and i are friends, hey i hope this happens but you've got to do your job. that's what he told comey. >> reporter: and while the president's allies are insisting the books should be closed on the russia investigation, it's only heating up. attorney general jeffesons appearing on the hot seat tomorrow agreeing to appear before the senate intelligence committee. it's unclear whether that testimony by jeff sessions will take place in public or behind closed doors. sessions recused himself from overseeing the russia-related investigations when admitted having two meetings with the russian ambassador during e trump campaign. investigators have bn trying to nail down whether there may have been a third undisclosed meetings. sessions aides strongly deny that happened. savannah, willie, back to you. >> we're joined by nicolle wallace host of msnbc's "4:00 p.m. white house" and msnbc's steve kornacki. good morning. >> good morning. >> i'll start with you. the sessions testimony is interesting, but the president himself raised the specter of

he was asked wh he'd be willing to testify under oath about these incidents that james comey testified about and he said 100%. is that a good idea? >> it's not. he has a -- whether you love him or hate him people can acknowledge he has a very loose relationship with the truth. he trotted out birtherism for many, many years then came back and said never mind. he had his aides go out and argue a demonstrably false fact about the number of people at his inauguration so it's one thing in a political theater where his supporters say he's blowing up convention, standing up to at least -- it's another thing entirely in a court of law where if you lie or say something one time or say something different anher it's called perjury. >> one of nicolle's old colleagues in the white house, ari flieeischer said effectivel over the week end to donald trump "stop talking." he said you're walking into a giant perjury trap. how much do these comments, these tweets, these pubc statements come back that him.

true. if he presses forward with this, if he ends up being deposed, if he ends up in some situation where he says something that can be contradicted later on it could end up being a perjury situation but one thing we have to keep in mind is this is ultimately still a political question. think of the last president who was impeached, bill clinton. there was no dispute from his supporters and defenders he committed perjury. the question it was did that perjury then rise to an impeachable level? it was a political dispute. democrats said no, republicans said yes. republicans could impeach him but couldn't remove him. that dynamic would stick here. >> it's being reported the attorney general is going to be testifying in some fashion before the senate intelligence committee. why is it important for him to clear the air? >> that public versus private question on sessions is key. obviously you can understand why sessions want this is imprivate. you know he's going to face withering questions from democrats about the two meetings he failed to disclose. now we have word potentially in the private session comey saying th

session's people but even if he denies that, he has a lot of explaining to do. >> nicolle asked about the tapes. are there tapes? are there not tapes? the president with anoth cryptic statement? director comey said on thursday "lordy, i hope there are tapes." >> i think if there are tes we would have seen him. the tv man loves the tease and if there were tapes we would have seen them teased out. i think if there are tapes they're more likely to corroborate comey's version of events than trump's because comey is a prosecutor who took notes for the purpose of remembering his own actual experience in an investigation or interrogation. i think the fact that we're talking about yeah he's likely to perjure himself, just week after week the bar keeps getting lower and lower for this white house. now we have to maybe he'll perjure himself but he won't get impeached over it. it's an extraordinary time. >> something tells me we'll see you again this week, guys.

also breaking at the white house overnight, presen trump's wife, first lady melania trump and the couple's son barron have officially made the move to 1600 pennsylvania avenue. nbc's white house correspondent kristen welker has more on that story. kristen, good morning. >> willie, good morning to you. speculation has been mounting about when the first lady would move in. now it's official, she's here with son barron. sources tell nbc news she's been preparing the private residence for quite some time. it's a new chapter for a first lady who broke with tradition by waiting months to make the white house her home. >> this morning, the first lady, president trump's wife melania and their 11-year-old son baron waking up in the white house. their official move to 1600 pennsylvania avenue coming four and a half months after the president took office. on twitter, the first lady posting this picture overlooking the washington monument saying she is looking forward to the memories we'll make in

home #movingday. the photo appears to be taken from inside the executive residence looking out over the truman balcony on the south lawn. the first family arrived together in washington on sunday, stepping off air force one at joint base andrews after spending the weekend at the trump national golf club in new jersey. barron is the first boy to live in the white house since 1963 when john f. kennedy, jr., was just three years old. he was playing with a fidget spinner when he arrived and was wearing a t-shirt that read "the expert." for months, the first lady chose to stay at trump tower in new york city so barron could finish the school year. >> barron, thank you very much for being here. >> reporter: this morning, the "washington post reporting barron will be attending the private st. andrew's ispal school in maryland. barron's brand parents also arrived with the family at the white house. there are reports the couple may help care for him in much the same way michelle obama's mother looked after sasha and

the defense is coming off a week where the prosecution presented dramatic moments. andrea constand, the alleged victim testified, she was unwavering and unflustered, even during a tough cross-examination. but the most dramatic moment was when her mother took the stand. she was both emotional and angry and when the defense went after her on cross-examination, they really had a tough time tracking that impression left in court. also look for this week appearances from cosby's family. he has been flanked up to this point by actors and by friends but his wife camille and his children have yet to make an appearance. andrew wyatt spoke about that as well. he said it's less about whether or not they support cosby and more about the comedian trying to protect them from the mayhem and the media. savannah, willie, back to you. >> we'll see if cosby himself takes the stand. stephanie, thanks. now to reports of a possible shakeup at uber. according to the "new york times," ceo travis kalanick may take a t

absence, uber's board of directors voted to adopt all of the recommendations made by former u.s. attorney general eric holder and his internal investigation of widespread sexual harassment at that company. the recommendation will be released to uber employees on tuesday. last week, uber announced it had fired 20 employees in connection with harassment. and as we mentioned at the top of the show, congratulations are in order for the pittsburgh penguins. >> rebound off the boards! they score! the penguins have scored! >> the pens beat the nashville predators 2-0 to win the stanley cup for the second straight year. they're the nhl's first repeat champions since the detroit red wings went back to back in 1998. both of pittsburgh's goals came in the final two minutes of the game and now the penguins are hoisting the stanley cup trophy for the fifth time in franchise history. this was classic playoff hockey. it was 0-0 to the last couple minutes. knocked the goal o t

will step down from the company. john flannery, the current president of ge health care will take over. that starts august 1. immelt will remain chairman of the board until his retirement at the end of the year. it was a big, big night for evan hanson at last night's tony awards honoring the best of broadway. it won six awards including best musical, best score, ben plat took home best performance by a leading actor in the musical. the other notable winners included kevin kline, lori metcalf and bette midler. bette midler gave quite a speech. we'll talk about that speech lat later. and noto dtug case of alleged fraternity hazing at penn state. the students charged in the death of timothy piazza and his parents will come face to face and gabe gutierrez is there.

>> reporter: prosecuto plan to play three hours of security video from the beta theta pi house. the last hours of his life. the 18 fraternity brothers are heading to court. 19-year-old michael bonatucci is among those facing the most serious charges, including aggravated assault. in an exclusive interview with "today," his lawyer says he never handed any alcohol to piazza that night and was not involved in the dis cushion of whether to call for help. >> it's a tragic situation but just because somebody is deceased and it's sad doesn't mean everyone in any room at any time should be held accountable. >> reporter: prosecutors say piazza's blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit when he tumbled down the stairs at the beta theta pi house. >> a friend is unconscious. >> reporter: it wou b

"today" financial editor is here with hacks to help us brush up our financial future. this is great because americans, we're optimistic. >> we're really optimistic. >> maybe too optimistic? >> when it comes to finances, we have a lot of research that shows we're too positive. if you look at yourself on a scale of 1-10, when it comes to finances, you should be an 8. eights are people o have the right protections in place, they save the right amount of money, if you're not we have hacks to get you there. >> you say there's four areas, financially competent retirement savings. >> most people believe thill be fine in retirement. when we look at the numbers, half of the people have absolutely nothing saved. so the first point is you want to visualize. you want to see yourself as older. if i'm

for me to identify with myself down the road but if i can see that 70-year-old, 80-year-old me it makes it easier. know how you pressure up to your fears. there's tools on the internet, fidelity has some, a lot of financial institutions that show you exactly where you are in terms of your savings goals compared to other people in your age and zip code. that can be helpful and compartmentalize when it comes to goals. some people suggest taking one hour of your day and saying that's the amount you should be saving for retirement. that's about 15% of your income which is about right. >> now let's move to the next bucket which is emergency savings, you should ha some money in the bank in case of emergency such as when the monitor isn't doing what it should. >> when the moni is not working. right. what we want people to do for emergency savings is get great apps. you can put them on your phone. so first one we like is called digit. it links with your bank

and moves money into savings. it has this smart algorithm that figures out how much money you can afford to save. people save on average of about $80 to $170 a month. it costs $2.99 a month but there's a free trial for 100 days. next is called acorn. it's like that old keep the change credit card from bank of america. it rounds up to a dollar what you spend and moves that into an investment account. that one is a dollar a month and the last is called tip yourself and it encourages you every time you sort of get into a routine and do something good, maybe you work out or maybe you spend less on coffee you tip yourself and put the rest into savings. >> the next area is to plan and have a will. >> that's right. if you don't have a will -- most people don't, only 44% do and numbers are going down which is not something we like to see -- consider sitting
