alexandria. this church is less than a mile away from where the shots were fired in del ray yesterday morning. the pastor told us the focus of the service was from psalms 120, i am for peace but they are from war. there was another gathering at nearby middle school. as they try to rebound from this horrible act, the investigation into why this happened is in full swing. >> federal agents are interviewing witnesses and reviewing videos of the shooting like this one. >> that's terrifying to listen to. this is the scene almost 24 hours ago. dozens of shots turned simpson baseball field into a battlefield. the congressional baseball game that those members were practicing for will, in fact, go on tonight at nats park. meanwhile, the fed

james hodgkinson's steps through the area. justin finch has more on how you can help the fbi in this case. justin? >> reporter: hey there, erika. good morning. the fbi is hoping more people take a look at this photo we're about to show you here in hopes that they may recognize him. meantime in this del ray neighborhood, another day of a day out of the ordinary here. lots of fbi patrols on the ground. crime tape still up here at the park as investigators dig deeper into this man now accused of opening fire. take a look at his face. this is 66-year-old james hodgkinson.belleville, illinois. he's believed to have been living out of his van here in alexandria. they pulled from the van mattress, personal items, pillows and pape

parking lot. many in this area, including neighbors, people at the y, even business owners have said they recognize him saying he often kept to himself. former alexandria mayor bill euille said he was pleasant. >> to the local alexandria community, we believe that the shooter has been living out of his vehicle in the vicinity of eastman road -- street, therefore, asking you to report any interactions that you may have had with him. >> reporter: and just a reminder of the carnage that happened here yesterday. looking now live at that baseball field where baseball gear remains on that diamond where it was left yesterday when those bullets went back and

appears on social media with presidential rants. sanders saying he does not support what happened here yesterday. that is the latest live here in alexandria. i'm justin finch, news 4. back in to you. >> justin, thank you. here's the latest that we know about the victims who were shot. >> house majority whip steve scalise is still in critical conditions. he was shot in the left hip. doctors say the bullet broke bones in his pelvis and caused severe bleeding. president trump and the first lady visited med star washington hospital center last night. they met with officers, the doctor who -- they met with the doctors who are treating scalise. they met with his wife, jennifer. >> matt mika remains in critical care unit also. he was shot multiple times.

tyson's food. zachary barth was also shot and he's also out of the hospital. he took to football to say he was okay and recovering from injuries and special agent crystal griner is in good condition now. she was shot in the ankle. she graduated from hood college in frederick. she is part of scalise's security detail. the other officer was treated and released after suffering a minor non-gunshot injury. they will make sure tens of thousands of people are safe for tonight's congressional game at nats part. chief peter newsham did not say whether extra security would be in place. more than 10,000 fans will be in attendance. the capital police memorial fund will be added to the list of this year's beneficiaries. tonight's game is at 7:00.

6:08. another man whose shooting spree shocked our area and the country will be in court. hearings for leroy malveaux's resentencing will start this afternoon. malveaux was 17 at the time when he was convicted. the hearings would affect malveaux's sentence, not his conviction. virginia's attorney general is appealing the decision granting new sentencing hearing. the jury is coming up on 30 hours and another day of deliberations in the bill cosby sex assault trial. he's accused of giving a former temple university employee pills and assaulting her back in 2004. cosby says the encounter

the congressional baseball game started way back in 190 9. so this is a way for both parties to come together and solidify friendships. that's what this is about. the event has evolved into a major fund-raiser bringing in lots and lots of money. this year as you heard megan mention, the capital police memorial fund will be added to the list of this year's beneficiari beneficiaries. the game tonight has a 7:05 start. we'll mark the 108th congressional baseball game. the alexandria neighborhood where the shooting happened is trying to rebound this morning. it's an incredible display of strength and resilience. the neighbors we spoke with say this place where everyone knows each other. last night neighbors walked through the streets to simply show they're there for each other. the police chief spoke saying his department is there to assure them everything is safe. so what's important

recent interactions with the man who is said to have opened fire on the baseball field there some 24 hours ago almost now. here's what we now know about hodgkinson himself. he is 66 years old from the belleville, illinois, area. he appears to have been living out of a van here in our area for at least the past few months. a mattress and pillow and other items pulled from the back of that van we saw here yesterday in that ymca parking lot which is between the baseball field and the ymca itself. he had many interactions with other people. he got recollection of a very fateful conversation with a ymca employee. listen. >> he was curious as to who this team was that would be practicing and was told that they're a congressional team. he clearly said, is it republican or
