some lawmakers and aids targeted at a morning baseball practice are now on the road to recovery. >> we're following the latest in the investigation into the congressional baseball shooting in alexandria. the new information police have learned about the suspect. >> the congressional baseball game is not only happening tonight, it's taking on new significant in light of yesterday's shooting. my appreciation for the bravery of the capitol police that prevented many deaths from occurring with their heroic efforts of running to the sounds t

beibe being wounded. >> yeah, members of congress are taking the time to thank those police officers for all they did yesterday in that shooting in alexandria. >> white house majority -- well, house majority, rather, steve scalise and others wounded remain in a hospital. the lawmakers at the baseball field still can't believe what happened. >> i then went around and started hitting balls to steve scalise. i hit the first rounder to him and all of a sudden we heard a pop and a lot of us thought it was a car backfiring but then came pop, pop, pop, pop and people were yelling he's got a gun. get cover. i turned and i immediately ran into -- >> congressman william rogers with his aid yesterday on the "today show." williams suffered a sprained ankle. bart was hit in the left calf. he thanked police officers saying the

baseball game must go on. >> exactly. >> sound of resilience. the scene of the shocking shooting is shutting down as we speak. >> yeah, investigators are still collecting evidence at the field and alexandria ymca where james hodgkinson shot four people including congressman scalise. justin fitch is live where this is an active investigation. >> reporter: chris, good morning. active, indeed. good morning. all morning we've seen fbi agents trained on two scenes, the baseball field and ymca parking lot where the white van tied to the shooting suspect was found and still stands at this hour. the white van with the illinois plates appears to have been home for the suspected shooter here, james hodgkinson, age 66 from bellville, illinois. federal investigators believe he possibly lived out of the van for the past several months. inside they found a mattress,

items proving that van will be critical in the investigation. now, on the other side of that lot is citizen field where the baseball diamond is and we've seen fbi investigators on that scene all morning. also, on the grounds there, bags and other gear still there from yesterday's shooting. now over there, as well, hodgkinson we know exchanged gunfire with the capitol hill police officers and of course, he did injure five people and he himself died of injuries that he sustained. back out live looking again at that van that will be key in this investigation. the ymca here, that building right there, did put out a statement regarding yesterday's shooting saying in part that 45 people were inside of that building when those shots rang out just after 7:00 yesterday. 911 was called. capitol hill police did respond here putting a lockdown in place. he was also observing hodgkinson, the

checked in at 5:31 this morning. we'll delve into this hearing those who saw him in the days before the shooting but right now megan picks many up coverage from that spot, megan? >> reporter: well, justin, in the wake of the shooting, many wondered whether the congressional baseball game would happen or whether it would be cancelled. it is not only happening tonight, it's taking on new significance as people rally around the victims and call for greater unity on capitol hill. >> and we must play this baseball game. if we don't play this baseball game and we go home, they win. >> reporter: resolve on capitol hill and support out on the street. >> it's all the arguing and stuff that we still are all americans and we all need to stand together. >> reporter: the congressional baseball game will go on as scheduled tonight.

investigator. he wrote quote they made up a phony collusion with the story found zero proof so now they go from obstruction of justice on the phony story. nice. he goes on to call it quote witch hunt. for the first time since taking office, president trump will visit the supreme court today. he'll take part in a ceremony to welcome new justice neil gorsuch. it comes as the high court could decide whether to allow the president's travel ban to go into effect or uphold lower rulings that block the order. and corey stewart may not be done with politics. the republican candidate for governor of virginia came in second, now he may be eyeing a run to the senate. stewart said his new victory shows there is interest in his brand of politics. he says he will, though, vote for the state republican ticket in this year's election.

hearing from the father of the university of virginia student who was detained in north korea and released earlier this week. now he returned to his home state of ohio. fred warmbier said he doesn't think north korea's explanation the coma resulted from botulism and a sleeping pill makes sense. they say warmbier suffered a severe neurological injury and is in stable condition. doctors will talk more later today about his status. the first meeting for the recent montgomery, a federal judge determined he had to be resentenced because the supreme court ruled that mandatory life sentences for minors are unconstitutional. malvo was only 17 years old when convicted. it will affect

virginia's attorney general is appealing the decision to grant new sentencing hearings. >> we're expecting to learn more information about the massive fire in london that destroyed a high rise and killed at least 17 people but the london fire commissioner says that number will likely rise because there is no way to know how many people are still trapped inside. hundreds of people were sleeping in the tower when the fire broke out early this week. impressive video there. incredible to see. we still don't know how the fire started, but today london's mayor and british prime minister teresa may called into an inquiry what caused the fire. >> hard to watch that. time to check the forecast. >> we should have knocked the edge off of the heat wave. yesterday was the fourth day in the 90s in a row and today

the jury of bill cosby's sex assault trial still has not reached a verdict. today is day four. >> the jury has to be unanimous on a verdict in any count. they stopped last night after rehearing testimony about a certain police interview. chris malone as more on the decision they are weighing. >> reporter: this is day four of jury deliberations, the panel of seven men and five women trying to come to unanimous agreement on the aggravated indecent assault charges on bill

the comedian and entered pennsylvania. prosecutors say cosby drugged and assaulted andrea constand in his home in 2004. cosby and his defense team claim the encounter was consensual. the jury is active coming back into the courtroom six times to ask questions. key testimony read back from cosby, investigators. the judge said jurors expressed concerns and requests, but didn't elaborate how the requests might affect the trials going forward. if convicted on all three counts, cosby could face up to 30 years in prison. in montgomery, pennsylvania, chris pallone, nbc news. warriors fans are preparing to crowd the streets of california getting ready for something pretty special. the second parade in the past three years. needless to say, the warriors beat lebron james and the cavaliers for the title just a couple days

nation's capital. i love in the virginia area now with my family, and getting out and being active in the community and going to parks is a highlight for my husband and i and our two beautiful young girls. but when i travel now for work, i always try to make sure my husband and two girls come and when we go, the last one of our last trips was to sioux falls. we enjoyed the beautiful falls there and also went across the border to minnesota and saw pipe stone monument right there. went back to my native american roots, which is important for people to kind of discover their history, the country's history and culture. >> and then personally, what have you gotten out of this tour? >> you know, i think what is important to me is recognizing it's the little things in life that are so impactful. you don't need to spend a great deal of money and especially if you have young little kids, you may have limited time and i think it's just important to take advantage of these beautiful parks that have been preserved and protected by the national park foundation and

that the investigation appears to turn up he was no stranger to the dell ray area. hodgkinson is 66 years old and hails from the bellville, illinois area where relieves behind a reported history of arrests and home inspection business. for the past few months, investigators believe he set himself up here appearing to be living out of his van. here on scene, we did see a mattress, pillows and other items pulled from the van. those things evidence in the investigation. the van was parked in the ymca lot where we understand he was a recent member and often seen inside on his laptop and keeping to himself but he was known to strike up conversations with other members including former city mayor bill euille. >> i encountered him monday morning at the y. he samed normeemed normal a

he was no different. if somebody put two people in front of me and said this incident happened, pick the person you think may have participated, he would not have been on my list. >> and you will know, too, that van again still parked there. fbi agent haves been swarming the van and spots in the parking lot throughout the morning here. that van parked facing the simpson park baseball diamond where the gop team was practicing yesterday and hodgkinson is said to have opened fire. on the ymca website, they do plan to be closed for today and also say that hodgkinson did report to their club yesterday morning about 5:31 that day in the morning, which means he spent about an hour and a half or so there before making that short walk to that diamond and opening fire yesterday. we are live here in alexandria, i'm justin finch, news 4, back into you. >> justin, thank you. this morning it's possible the president is under

investigation. t"the washington post" reports robert mueller is looking into whether the president obstructed justice in the russia probe. here is nbc's peter alexander to explain. >> reporter: as president trump was wrapping up his 71st birthday, an unwanted gift from robert mueller. "the washington post" saying mueller is examining whether the president attempted to obstruct justice. investigators working with m muelle is investigating dan coats and the head of the national security agency mike rogers. it's a traumatic development in the investigation looming over the trump camp since day one. the investigation began days after mr. trump abruptly fired fbi director james comey on may 9th. the move appearing to confirm what comey told senators under oath last week when asked whether he believed the

we're back with some breaking news right now. the jury in the bill cosby sexual assault trial is deadlocked. the judge is giving them a chance to quote try again. the jury has to be unanimous on a verdict on any count. wall street is poised to open lower. the markets ended mixed yesterday with the dow closing at a record high. asia and europe are cautious today and it could raise rates again this year and confirms about low inflation. also watch oil prices are at a six-week low and continue concerned about a global supply. the dow rising 46 points to 21,374. the nasdaq fell 25, though, just 6194. the number of complaints by passengers on u.s.

biggest sources of lead exposure. it's an issue this doctor always brings up when she sees patients at uh rainbow babies and children's hospital in cleveland. the pediatrician says the only safe amount of lead for children is zero. >> lead can have an impact on the developing brain, can have consequences later in life when it comes to issues with attention and behavior. >> reporter: there is evidence of a more minor source of lead exposure, baby food. >> that included fruit juice, baby fruit juices, root vegetables such as carrots and sweet potatoes and cookies like teething cooke keys. >> reporter: the environmental defense fund explored data from the food and drug administration finding what it calls detectable levels of lead in some baby food, though there is no information about how much or which brands are involved. some samples had no lead at all. the fda says administration set

level of six micro grams. why not zero? the fda website says lead is is in food because it is in the environment and lead cannot simply be removed from food. doctors discourage parents from worrying too much about lead in baby food. >> i certainly would not recommend avoiding entire food groups because of a concern of lead exposure. root vegetables are a healthy choice for babies. >> reporter: parents can use their own baby food, use local produce and speak to pediatricians about the best ways to avoid lead. erica edwards, nbc news. prices on airline tickets have been going up, up, up, and it's not going to stop any time soon. a report says airlines will raise rates and charges significantly over the next few years. the main reason is all these major expansions underway at airports around the country. the airports will charge the carriers and they will turn around and pass those costs on to you. delta is
