shooting. investigators have a lot more answers after going through the van that the shooter had been living in since moving to alexandria. they found his phone, computer and camera along with two guns both of which were purchased legally. today we heard from james's wife of 30 years. she shed light of what was going on in her husband's life. >> my daughter had moved back home and has a 2 year old. and i think he wanted a break from it. i don't know what to tell you people. i had no idea this was going to happen. and i don't know what to say about it. i can't wrap my head around it, okay. >> it is going to be a long road ahead for the four victims who were shot. we understand that congressman steve scalise is remaining in critical condition recovering from a third

be the last for him. lobbiest matt mika who had his lung clipped by a bullet is on a ventilator but is communicating through written notes. as for the crime scene investigators say they may have to keep it closed off for several more days. coming together to help officers injured in a crash in one of the district's most popular hot spots tonight. several businesses are teaming up to help pay for the victims' recovery. darcy spencer joins us now. >> reporter: it was a successful fundraiser. we are here on 18th street where that unfolded one week ago tonight. many people back out here tonight for the fundraiser. and i'm told the response was overwhelming. d.c. police officers

pickup truck raced up 18th street striking them and a transportation worker. anthony gray was greeting customers at the bar and saw it happen. >> i helped him, see if he had a pulse. he was still breathing. he looked like he had no life in his body. i thoug >> reporter: that bar and several others hosted a fundraiser to help provide money towards the officers' recovery. his injuries described as catastrophic but he is improving. >> he was barely able to put sentences together as he was in and out of consciousness. given the heavy sedation, the trauma from the event, his body would just shut down. >> reporter: police charged the driver with assault with intent to kill and a gun charge. the motive was still unclear although communication

may have been using drugs. bike officers are well known ibadams morgan, part of the elite night life task force. >> these guys are part of our family. when i heard about that my heart went out to them. they put their lives on the line every day. here they were getting hurt. >> reporter: some more good news for the officer who remains in critical condition, i'm told he is able to put sentences together and starting to tell some jokes in the hospital room that is definitely a good sign. they are saying they raised thousands of dollars at the fundraiser here tonight. back to you. >> got a lot of people pulling for him. thank you, darcy spencer. right now that pennsylvania doctor arrested for having guns at trump international hotel is back in police custody. authorities tell us brian moles was ordered to stay out of d.c. but came back this time to buy

a dramatic rescue as police rush to save a man from a burning car. this is body cam video from earlier this year. police in florida just released it. the driver slammed into a barrier and that started the fire. he crawled out of the car. he was lying in the woods as the sfi fire spread around him. police were able to pull him out before the car exploded. people woke up to a disturbing image in montgomery village. someone hung a noose from a tree here in the herrings cove condominiums. it was hanging in a common area near a parking lot. people who lived there said they didn't hear or see anything. montgomery county police are asking anyone with information

take a look at this video. a teenager street racing down a resid residentual street. >> witnesses tell the news 4 i-team that this crash was completely preventable. neighbors say the speeding in this area has been out of control for years. >> investigator reporter shows us why a fix recommended back in 2015 still hasn't been done. >> reporter: cars racing up and down feather stone road is nothing new. he sees it every day. >> they are not really hot rods. they are just kids in whatever car they are driving. >> reporter: he wanted a stop sign or speed hump for years and that was before he was almost caught in the middle of this. >> all we heard was a loud boom. >> reporter: the video shows two cars racing and passing another car. the teen drivers narrowly missed a tree before slamming into

>> the officer told me said he was going to run off the road. let me run back in the house and see if i have it on video. >> reporter: he says he got the cameras for home security and had forgotten they were here cht once he checked the footage he realized what a close call it was for him. he and his wife just returned home from shopping and went inside instead of unloading the car. the crash happened four minutes later. >> if i had been pulling the mulch out i wouldn't be here. >> i sent a letter to county supervisor. >> reporter: it wasn't the first letter says hoa president or the second or the third. more than a dozen e-mails documented fights to get a speed table installed. it's basically a longer flatter hump like this one. prince william county found it was needed back in december 2015. >> i spent eight years working for congress and i thought they were

>> reporter: the road belongs to virginia's department of transportation but the county is responsible for the fix. >> county government can't just plop something down in the middle of the property. we have to work with v dot. >> reporter: according to the e-mail v dot denied the speed table worried about traffic to the marina next argued it would deter usef a nearby park but the park has its own speed table. >> it makes no sense. >> reporter: he said he spoke with officials from the county and the state almost weekly. >> finally a gentleman called me about a year ago and said i'm sorry i didn't realize what was going on in your community. >> reporter: it took todd another three months to get the required 75% of the neighbors to sign off and then the county had to secure funding and winter temperatures caused a delay. >> i don't know who the bucks stop with so i just kept pushing and pushing.

>> feels good. >> the big thing is the change in the humidity. temperatures are down a little bit. the humidity has come down and that makes things so much better. we can open windows again. it will get back back over the next couple of days. right now pretty nice. 74 degrees d.c. 77 back towards leesburg. we are tracking some shower activity back towards the west. we were looking at these showers a little bit earlier, 6:00 the line of storms would be dying off as it comes our way. that is what we are seeing here. showers back down around the area. that is really about it. we will zoom in right here right around moving in towards warren county. you can see right here about to get a little bit wet. some of these will come right along 66. that is really about it. take a look

that one coming through and another line back to the west. you see that line right there? we are going to be watching this for tomorrow very closely because watch what happens. overnight tonight it all dies and moves off to the east. we have clouds tomorrow morning and will see sunshine. any instability will start to produce showers and thunderstorms. notice around 1:00 most of the activity over the blue ridge back to the west, a few showers around d.c. watch what happens during the afternoon. especially if we get sun. the more sun we get the smore storms we will get during the day. these are almost area wide right through 5:00. heavier rain coming down and down towards fredricksburg later in the evening. most everybody has a chance of seeing rain tomorrow. i'm not expecting temperatures to get that -- 87 is the high temperature tomorrow. sun and clouds a little more
