back out towards parts of the valley. in and around the metro area we saw heavier rain come through. picked up a quarter of an inch around the airport. might have ruined some afternoon plans now. pretty good line from annapolis right through route 50 into portions of loudoun county. this rain better stick around for the next couple of hours. this boundary will continue to allow us to see a chance of rain. maybe storms. we have a chance of severe weather over the next couple of days. i will break it down for you. >> thank you. >> we have some breaks news coming into news 4. seven navy sailors are missing after a u.s. destroyer collided with a merchant ship. conducting a routine operation hw

navy says significant damage was done to the right side of the ship. it had taken on water. we are told at least two crew members were evacuated. air lifted by helicopter we are told in stable condition. news 4 learned that commander benson studied at george washington university and earned his master's degree. assessing the damage and trying to account for all personnel. >> developing tonight prince william county a pedestrian was hit and killed by an amtrak train tonight. shomari stone is live with more on the investigation and how this is aeffecting train service. >> reporter: everything is back to normal out here but there is still a delay for train 315. that man was right in that area around 100 yards away when for some reason he was on the track.

right at the end of rush hour traffic. >> prince william county police picked up the man's shoe and removed his body from the track. the train hit the man around 7:30 tonight near the woodbridge station. police are investigating why the man was on the track. the accident delayed the fredricks burg line train for two hours. you were on this train delayed for two hours. how are you feeling right now? >> exhausted. completely exhausted. >> reporter: did you know what happened? >> no. they said something about a fatality. no other details. >> the delay was so disappointing, but we can't help it. it is a tragedy. people were very patient and understanding. nobody complained. >> reporter: police collected the evidence and the trains were back up and

now, buses were available for passengers that wanted to use them. as for the man, prince william county police have not released his name. they are still investigating. live here i'm shomari stone, news 4. i'm leon harris at the live desk with the look at the new element of mystery surrounding the investigation into the alarming shooting. james hodgkinson had a list of names of several house republicans on him. despite the list investigators can't say he planned an attack in advance. the list of names included congressman of arizona, jeff dunkin of south carolina, mobrooks. adding to the uncertainty is this. representative franks was not on the congressional baseball team. investigators are saying that hodgkinson told his wife he was heading back to illinois and cancelled his ymca

talked to a local garage about getting his van fixed up to take the trip. investigators say they searched his cell phone and computer and camera. they have not found the manifesto and so many questions left to be answered. right now house majority whip steve scalise remains in critical condition. doctors say he was in mortal danger when he arrived in the hospital they lifted sedation enough for the congressman to respond to his family members. he is expected to remain in the hospital for more surgeries and long term rehabilitation. jurors in the bill cosby trial have gone home for the night and will return tomorrow. they still haven't reached a verdict but what they have done is test the patience of the judge in that

he was pulled over for broken tail light and ended with castile shot five times. >> it came down where the verdict i felt the right verdict according to what the law states. >> went on to say the law needs to change. right now it is designed to protect police and not people they shoot. castile said he had a gun and a permit for it. a warning tonight in loudoun county. thieves are targeting cars temporarily parked outside schools and daycares while parents are dropping off their children. the sheriff's office says residents should keep their cars locked at all times. last week several of these kinds of

and daycares. we learned new details tonight in the case of two murdered teenagers in montgomery county. police tell us they found dozens of shell casings at the crime scene. there were at least two shooters and the shooting was not random. the victims were killed the night before they were set to graduate from northwest high school. tonight the community returned to the montgomery county school to say good bye. darcy spencer was there and her story is all new at 11. >> reporter: these two graduated without two of their classmates. najar had talked about how excited he was to get his dipi m diplo diploma. >> his last words to me was tomorrow is the gateway into the future. >> tonight they return to their high school for a

they were gunned down the night before graduation. several police officers were here, as well. >> the day i heard about it was graduation. >> they were killed inside the car. police say there were multiple gun men who fired dozens of shots. >> how could these kids die like that? they were supposed to graduate the second day. >> reporter: news cameras were not allowed inside. news 4 was given permission to take photographs. family members of both teens attended and spoke about how proud they were of their son. his father says he lost his only child and the dreams he had for his son are now gone. he says he prays no other families will have to deal with this kind of pain. in german town, darcy spencer

fisher died from sleep apnea. today's report says fisher suffered from heart disease. she suffered a medical emergency on board an international flight in december. fisher died december 27. her mother long-time movie icon debbie reynolds died the following day. new information out this week suggests there may be a genetic basis for certain kinds of insomnia. about one in three people in this country suffer from some form of insomnia. a team of researchers in the netherlands studied genetic factors. studied more than 100,000 people. the scientists found seven genes linked. the strongest involves restless leg syndrome with others overlapping with anxiety, depression and poor well being. >> if y
