this morning. when it's this windy this early in the day, that tells me as a forecaster, there's a lot of wind energy aloft. we're going to be dealing with it later today. sun is up, a beautiful morning. it's breezy and warm. upper 70s to 80 degrees everywhere. nobody is escaping the mild start to the day. warm and breezy this morning. storms near i-81 early this afternoon. severe storms most likely between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. today. all types of severe weather in play. heavy rainfall. a flash flood up. the storms, slow moving, could put down several inches of rain in a short period of time. high winds and hail also a possibility. today's high, 87 degrees. the odds that you'll have to deal with raindrops today, 80%. some of the storms likely to be strong to severe. we'll keep you posted through this morning. first doug and tom will be here this afternoon. the nbc washington app to help you stay weather alert. time for first 4 traffic

>> the 17-year-old nabra was on her way back to the adams center mosque when she got into a confrontation. police have not confirmed her identity but a family friend tells us this is indeed her picture. justin finch joins us live at her high school with more on the resources available for students today. this is a community -- i live close by, justin -- it's been in complete shock. >> reporter: angie, a very troubling story. crisis counselors will be on hand where that victim is reported to have been eye student. her family friends say she was looking very forward to celebrating ramadan on sunday with her friends on what they now fear was mer last day alive. here she is identified by loved ones as 17-year-old nabra. she was reported missing close to 3:00 a.m. on sunday.

darwin martinez torres is facing a murder charge. nabraa and torres got into an argument at dranesville road. she was leaving ramadan prayers and went to a nearby mcdonald's for food. at some point she was assaulted. her friends went back to the mosque and realized nabra was not there. remains matching hers were found in a pond near there. >> i can't say this is a hate crime award or racist or religion thing until they close the investigation and answer -- >> reporter: now, the investigation will determine the official cause of death and the official identification of the victim here again, fairfax police have not officially identified her at this time. also, too, we should learn if this will become an oic

that is the latest here. back in to you. >> thank you, justin. we're working to learn when the -- shadi najjar and artem ziberov were shot two weeks ago in montgomery village, one day before they were supposed to graduate from high school. the shooting may have been retaliation for an earlier drug-related robbery committed by najjar. his father says he doesn't think his son robbed anyone and has strong words for the suspected killer. >> i am glad they caught them. i hope they rot in hell. i hope god punish them in this life and the life after. >> now, police are still trying to piece all of this together and say they need people to come forward with information relating to the case

well, the hot weather this summer could affect you here at the airport. airlines say that flights could be delayed if there is extreme heat. happened to my husband yesterday. >> turns out the high temperatures make it harder for airplanes to take off. airlines say they're watching the forecast. chuck says we're expecting highs in the upper 80s. certainly are. upper 80s around here. if you're trying to fly out towards phoenix or las vegas, highs could be near 120 degrees in the desert southwest. that could cause delays for planes in and out of phoenix. around here, our flights this afternoon into this evening may also face weather delays. not because of temperature but because of the threat of severe storms. i'll show you future weather and five-day forecast coming up. chopper 4 over nice light volume right now. 270 southbound at the spur. you can see the montgomery county bus there. won't be headed out in the normal same way.

captured just moments ago. police have arrested a man they say plowed into worshippers leaving two mosques following evening prayers. one person was killed and others injured. back to you, chris. thank you, molette. a parent's worst nightmare came to life when a teenage boy was mauled to death by a bear. >> he's only 16. he was participating in a father's day run in alaska. the terrain is pretty rugged there. the teenager's friend say they lost him in the thick brush. during the race, the teenager sent his mom a message saying he was being chased by a bear. by the time rescue workers got to him, he was dead. they found his body a mile away from the main route. >> how do you respond to the family hearing news like that? >> it's devastating. >> i've been running in the mountains for 30 years and people come down off the trail and say they've run into a bear

other times it's really serious like this. >> we know that the trail is closed off this morning since the bear is still on the loose. >> this is a pretty good lesson in what not to do if you ever see a bear. a deputy? florida practically inviting one into his car. the good inning in this case, nobody was hurt. first the deputy talked to the bear and when it got close he opened up his car door. the florida fish and wildlife service says bears are unpredictable and some can consider eye contact aggressive. in this case, the deputy was lucky. the bear just walked away. >> they say the bears won't bother you if you aren't going after their cubs and all that. even though that one looked small, i'm locking the door >> the key word is unpredictable. chances are, your pre teen owns a cell phone. in colorado there's a campaign to stop kids under 13ro
