reported there alone. >> those storms are moving out right now. but we're seeing plenty of damage left behind. let's begin with doug and tom there in the storm center holding down the fort. we're kind of out of the woods. >> we can start that clean up in many areas, severe weather come through. most of us have seen just about everybody has seen some part of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, some areas got hit harder than others. >> we have reports of wind gusts as much as 60 miles an hour with all the trees we have that's all it takes. . the radar was lit up around 2 and 4:00. after that time we saw most of the severe weather move off. we had our last bit down towards the south, down in the course of saint mary's county. that's down towards the eastern shore, no more severe thunderstorm warnings in our area.

notice, the pink area, southern maryland and the northern, that's the only area now under severe thunderstorm watches. but that should be cancelled here at any time. you can still see a couple of stronger cells, no lightning around 301. no lightning, heavier rain showers continue to move in. still rain around the d.c. metro area, most of this will be light to moderate. the whole system continues to move off towards the east. as we mention, a lot of people without power, we're looking at this throughout the afternoon as primarily wind thrust today. >> as we just mentioned, we had as many 40,000 without power and northern virginia alone. 25,000 of those were in fairfax county. plus those outages have dramatically dropped those crews got to work and got a lot of the power back. here is a few of the city right now. still low clouds hanging over, but the visibility have improved. power outages down to about 23,000 they have made some great progress in getting that power back and things areeg

settle down. we'll go live now to the stone, he's in silver spring looking at some of the damage there. quite a bit. >> look right here, tom, you see this back windshield, it is shattered, why, you come right over here. this tree is crushed right on top of the car. this is nothing compared to across the street, photographer can zoom in. you see the top of that roof right there. that tree just sliced through it like a ten can. there was a couple inside, in their 50s and they were trapped. firefighters were able to get them out right now. they are at a hospital. the man is -- has some minor injuries, the woman whose wife, she's there as a precaution. you move right over here again, you see that tree right down

hate crime. our northern virginia bureau chief is learning new details now from several of the teens who were there when the suspect attacked the group. she joins us now live from sterling where a walk to the mosque turned to panic and chaos. >> well, it happened right here. this is where darwin martinez torres allegedly drove his car towards a group of teenagers, tonight he is in jail without bond facing a charge of murder. for the last hour, i've learned he faces more trouble. immigration and customs enforcement this afternoon lodging a detainer against him, meaning they believed that el salvador and native is in the country illegally. i spoke with the victim's father today and he tells me he liked to talk directly to the suspect. >> when detectives came to tell hasan that his missing daughter was dead. he told us he had one

killer. >> for what? you don't do anything. >> 17-year-old was with a large group of friends early yesterday morning walking and biking along the road. they just finished a meal at mcdonald's before returning the to the nearby mosque to begin a fast. the teens say they noticed a man in a car following them, then he jumped the curb. >> when i saw with the car, driving on the sidewalk, that's when i was like, what's going on. >> he had to go to the woods, he would have hit us with the car. >> friend believe as they ran he fell down. police say 22-year-old darwin then got out of the car hitting her in the head with a baseball bat. then allegedly put her body in the vehicle and later dumped it in a nearby po

he reportedly spit and shouted threats at them, one person died at the scene. it's not clear yet whether he was run over or suffered a heart attack. ten other people were wounded. and the suspect in an apparent terror attack in paris is dead tonight. a man rammed his car into a police convoy, sparking an explosion in his car. police pulled the driver out of the vehicle, but he died later. two investigators say a handgun was found on the driver and there were more explosives in that car. no one else was injured, but french authorities say the attack appeared to be deliberate and the suspect had been flagged for possible ties to extremist. this is the fifth attack in four months on security forces in paris. previous attackers have used guns, a hammer and a machete. >> tonight we're learning new details about the danger of police face as they respond today a shooting at baseball

officers ran into the gunfire as they took aim at members of congress practicing for a charity game. fitzgerald has more now on the investigation and another sign the city is returning to normal in the wake of this awful attack. megan. >> certainly signs that things are getting back to normal, where the shooting happened was suppose to be packed, they're getting ready for a little league game. but if we flew around here and show you the ymca, it's passive cars, people have been going in and out of the facility since the weekend, really. but neighbors that we talked to say, you know, this is not far from what happened just a couple of days ago. we now call this the new normal. >> cell phone video shows part of what happened when a gunman opened fire during congressional baseball practice. today police chief, mike brown, described part of the heroic acts by his officers and two capitol police agents which h

>> special agent david bailey and special agent crystal griner were involved in stopping the initial assault by that particular shooter, one of them actually went on to the field and got the individual to move down away from the third baseline for home plate. >> three of the police officers were on the scene. >> two of the officers fired the weapon, the third officer was pinned down and was not in a position to fire the weapon because of rough and coming at them. >> that officer who was pinned down was -- who ran towards the gunman from the area near the ymca. chief brown said she ended up distracting the gunman through officers alexander jensen, kevin and two police officers crystal griner and david bailey could take out the suspect. the entire

look at this, tornado warning, it goes here. tornado warning. this is county maryland or delaware just south. for us, you can see what's happening, severe weather threat is over. no lightning in our area at all. the severe thunderstorm watch has been lifted no longer in effect, extreme southern zone. but i expect to be gone there, too. take a look at the last few hours here. each one of these circles represent severe weather into parts of the area and most of these mean wind damage and trees down, this blue dot here. that's a wind gust of 58 miles per hour, a little bit earlier. you can see where the strongest storm was right along 66 and around the beltway as it made its way on through. this is silver spring, numerous trees down. homes have had at least some damage, people take it to the hospital there, no lightning injuries there and life threatening injuries. here is the run storm we have, a little bit of lightning, heavy

prince frederick area, heads up. frederic fredericksburg seeing some of this rain, wet go of things on i-9 i i-95 southward. mostly on the dryer side, still showers back and will come back through the city light rain there, a little bit more steady rain and where 50 east. we're about out of the woods, even for the rain fall. most of this is gone, severe thunderstorm watch for maine all the way down towards the carolinas, starting to get a little bit better here, severe weather down, starting to flair-up there. and it's all because they're dealing with the warm temperatures. look at the high today. 90 in philadelphia. but the storms roll through and they have really significantly cut those temperatures down to 76, 72 in richmond coming in at 76 degrees, as well. now, tomorrow that will

observances. she was 17-year-old and we are life streaming this news conference in our app right now. we'll bring you any updates as we learn them. now, at 6:30. we have new information about clues that led to the arrest of three men that montgomery county. after the gunman shot them, they took one of the teen's cell phones. but it turns out a crucial clue was already left behind. also tonight, we're learning why the victims may have ended up in montgomery village, news 4 has our story from montgomery county tonight. >> it was a set up. according to court documents on the night of the murder, shadi najaar sent a message said he was going to sell a graduation ticket to a man name roger garcia. garcia is one of the three suspects charged in this double murder case,

and his classmate gunned down in a hail of 30 bullets as they set in this honda car on a dead end street. the victims honor student set to graduate from northwest high school the next day. his father was in court today promising to follow this case right to the end. >> and i would be coming here. those people will go and get justice. that's what i'm here for. i will do it all the way. >> the motive, police say it appears to be retaliation. in court papers police say witnesses told them that shaadi used and sold marijuana and that last year he stole drugs from the girlfriend of one of the suspects. at court today, shadi's mom, she denied that her son was ahi

>> when police moved to arrest the suspects over the weekend, they say they found two of them in a car. their bags packed, heading to another state. all three suspects held without bond pending another court hearing next month. pat collins, news 4. metro says it needs millions more dollars to keep us moving. there's intense disagreement about where that money should come from. it starts with whether everybody in our region should chip in, even if they don't use the system. transportation is at the station tonight. adam, the latest proposal on how to do this came from some maryland leaders today, what are they suggesting? >> well, they're suggesting, first of all, that the entire

about 16 members of the metro board, they're suggesting taking that down to just three principle members. the transportation secretary of virginia, the district and maryland, you can have a more cohesive vote process when it comes forward. but the big thing here, is no one has been able to decide fundamental tally how to fund a new sort of tax for metro. for years this idea has been kicked around about how people should come up with a new plan to fund the system. metro's general manager said they need about $500 million extra per year from local jurisdictions. the district has proposed a one cent sales tax. but northern virginia and maryland leaders that's the starter pretty much. the maryland group is saying basically every local jurisdiction is being able to figure out how it comes up with a new revenue stream. that doesn't get us very far. we're back to how we fund the system. >> one of the big issues, adam, hasn't it been that the

before we will come up with any money for metro, we need some more ree assurance about how the money is being spent. >> 100%. so it's not like metro hasn't gotten funding over the past x number of years. $150 million every year from the federal government and then $150 million from local government, so that's 300 million a year to spend and that's going on for the past 8, 9 years. it goes up to about 10 years. but people say, look, where has all of that money gone. where is the maintenance program that you guys have been rolling out for the last 5 or 6 years, where has all that money been spent. a lot of people quite frankly are getting metro any new funding until they can prove the way they're using money is using it effectively. that's kind of where we are right now. until we can decide as a region to figure out how we're going to fund this transit system, we're kind of spinning our wheels until we find a regional funding system that metro c

things. >> what are we dealing with now, i-95, still wet go of things. take a look at the view here, zoom on in, down to the south, look at this storm, right around tampa and notice severe thunderstorm warning, this is westmoreland county, this storm on the current path go right over saint mary's, may be extreme. this is the storm i'm going to be watching for the next half hour to an hour to see if it does in fact hold together. we have the numerous storms in that area. it may weaken as it moves stable atmosphere. big time severe weather threat, seeing severe thunderstorm watch. that system moves on through, we see a little bit better weather coming
