17-year-old nabra hassanen will take place this afternoon in sterling. nabra's violent murder fueling strong response from people who knew her and even those who did not. >> since yesterday, vigils for the high schooler happening in cities across the country, from los angeles to orlando, boston and more. all of them expecting to hold vigils. justin finch is live outside the mosque nabra attended with her family. is that where they're going to hold the funeral service, justin? >> reporter: chris, that's right. nabra hassanen, the family bracing for an emotional service this afternoon. the grief felt far and wide. crowds gathered for a rally in nabra's memory tuesday at dupont ci.

place. fairfax county police believe the teen was beaten to death sunday, first attacked as she walked back to ramadan services at the adam center mosque. an argument between a group of friends and torrez is believed to have prompted the attack, lead the investigation to lean on road rage as a potential cause in this case. investigators now say no motive is off the table. >> we know there's a technical thing of the law says this and police probably have to move strictly according to the facts. the muslim community and adams center also has to address how people feel. we know people may feel this is a hate crime, or be outraged and we're dealing with that. >> reporter: that funeral set for 1:30 today. a vigil in her honor is planned for 6:30 in weston. back to you.

>> all right. thank you. images from solidarity and prayer vigils coming in on social media. those vigils as we said have been happening across the country. many people using justice for nabra. today, the united states could make a decision, a big decision about north korea. officials from the white house are meeting with chinese leaders later today and they'll be talking about otto warmbier, the uva student who died. >> angie goff is at the live desk with what we're learning about what happened to him. angie? >> reporter: this is the thing, there's no official conclusion on how warmbier died while being detained in north korea for trying to steal a propaganda poster during a trip abroad last year. this is video we want to share from a vigil held to honor him. happened at uva where he attended school. his parents declined an autopsy at this point. the 22-year-old died less

data shows a new trendy merging. alarming increase of people with ethnicity and political affiliation. so far, there have been five this year. we talked to the director of human rights about the this trend. >> the first thing we want to do is encourage people to call 911 if they see something that's troubling. if they're not sure if there's a symbol of hate or something in the community that looks wrong, looks off. >> we have an interactive map let's you look up every hate crime in your neighborhood. head to nbc washington app and search hate crimes. could the key to d.c. state hood be as simple as changing a few names? that's what d.c. councilman is hoping. he introduced a bill that would upgrade names of elected leaders to state equivalent. for example, the mayor would become governor, d.c. council would become legislative assembly, and council members
