darcy spencer is live in pea body with the latest. darcy? >> reporter: last night at 11:00 we were talking about how fortunate it was that no one was seriously injured or killed in this fire. it turned out that was not the case. take a look here behind me, this is what's left of this burned-out building. investigators telling us today that they found the body up here on the third floor at the very top earlier today. >> anybody else out? >> grab him. >> reporter: firefighters rescued dozens of people, even small children in the early morning darkness. the flames tore through the peabody street apartments at 3:00 in the morning when many were asleep. the fire chief initially said saturday they believed everyone had survived. >> we were able to get back in there and do a primary search, a secondary search, and they got everybody out of the building. >> on sunday a man's body was discovered by

the top-floor apartment where the fire started. >> we were aware last night when we started interviewing the occupants of the building that there was still one person missing and so today the investigators when they were in there discovered that body. >> the fire displaced hundreds of residents who are now being sheltered at d.c.'s emory community center several blocks away. six people were hurt and five of them firefighters and they've all been released from the hospital. >> investigators will have to pore through the burned-out apartment as they search for the cause of this deadly blaze. >> it's a fire that's undetermined right now because the investigators have not had the opportunity to determine the cause of the fire and that's what they'll be doing over the next two days. >> reporter: back out here on peabody street, you can see it is still closed off. it is going to stay that way at least through tomorrow. we mentioned all of the people who were displaced and they were taken to that community center and they are expected to be placed in hotels until they can find new housing. erica, baco

>> darcy spencer live in northwest d.c. thank you. a void can never be entirely filleded and that's what people are saying about a coach killed on the beltway. he taught special ed at james madison high school in vienna. the principal calls him an inspiration who devoted his life to his students. a box truck hit schultz yesterday afternoon on the capitol beltway in fairfax county. schultz was making sure the boat was secured to the back of the pickup truck when it happened and his nephew was critically injured in this accident. state police are investigating and they've already charged the driver of the truck. maryland governor larry hogan is reacting to allegations of widespread corruption within the prince georges county school system. whistle blowers have come forward saying they have evidence that grades were changed to boost graduation rates. hogan sent a letter to the school board that reads in part, quote in response to the allegations and

ensure that this matter is fully investigated, end quote and school district officials have said that a state investigation that was completed found nothing improper. it came at the federal education department's request, following an anonymous complaint. the school ceo calls the allegations politically motivated. >> maryland state police say an ultra light aircraft crashed today killing the pilot. this happened nea a privately owned field, and the ultra light had taken off when the pilot lost control and police believe the plane hit a power line, pilot michael malick died after being rushed to the hospital. he was 71 and malick was the only person on the plane. the battle of the senate healthcare bill is getting more heated tonight. i want to show you a live look at the capital. key republicans are saying there is no way the bill should be voted on this week and democrats are overwhelmingly opposed to the plan.

take a look at this next video. a teenage girl dangling from an amusement park ride. it's enough to just give you a panic attack. seconds later she slips falling into the arms of a man below. we are told the girl who fell is okay. the man who caught her tweaked his back. he went to the hospital, but has been released and this is in upstate new york. six flags officials say they don't know how the girl slipped from the ride and that everything on the sky ride was running as it should. park officials are close -- excuse me, are closing the ride until a complete review is finished. just incredible. arlington county is using soccer to help decrease gang violence. the county held an annual gang

banners in memory of philando castile. the officer who killed him was acquitted on all charges. the demonstration briefly paused the parade. these are scenes out of seattle. the parade scene this year is indivisible. to see pictures from parades nationwide, you can open the nbc washington app and search pride cities. the national park service is diving into a project that could improve the view at the world war ii memorial. crews drained the rainbow pool and other water features today so that they can replace the crept light fixtures with high efficiency lighting and the pools will be rebuilt and operational next friday. >> the park service is doing work to avoid conflict with the honor flights that transport veterans to see the memorial. >> and now your storm team 4 forecast. >> it was a great day to sit out by the water. absolutely perfect out there and it will continue to be perfect all of the way through

evening. a tranquil evening upon us. we will stay dry as we head into your monday, but we do have a very small chance of rain on wednesday. we'll be hot and humid as we get into thursday, friday, saturday and sunday. we're at 85 right now here in the district. i think we topped out around 87 today and temperatures continuing to fall with mostly clear skies and we'll end up in the 50s and 60s during the overnight and it's a very comfortable evening out there. again, with temperatures in the lower 80s and some places in the shenandoah valleys in the 70s. no rain to worry about and not a lot of cloud cover and we have the puffy, cumulous clouds out there and that's about it. great night to open up those windows and we'll be warmer in the city center and once you step outside the beltway, maybe upper 40s in spots out there and it is going to be a nice, crisp mornin

up as we go through your morning, but with sunny skies and tomorrow's cloud cover will be similar to today. now we're pleasant by wednesday in terms of the humidity level and then the heat and humidity build on thursday and you'll feel it friday into the weekend and temperatures friday into the weekend are in the 90s and for your morning commute tomorrow morning, looking good. those dry roads continue through much of the day and we'll have an increase in cloud cover tomorrow evening and we'll be dry at least until tuesday. just less than a 20% chance of showers here or there, very hit or miss, and a stray shower. most of us are going to stay dry through your tuesday and this is just a touch overdone and i want to show you that we do have at least a chance on tuesday and we'll continue to monitor that, and it's just with a disturbance passing through the upper levels of the atmosphere. with the extra cloud cover, dry air coming our way tomorrow and the temperatures not making it out of your 70s on

then we head right back to near 80 degrees on your wednesday and very nice wednesday and still comfortable. humidity starts to build on thursday and in fact, you won't feel it on thursday and you will feel the heat, though, because that temperature will be around 90nd a then we're in the low to mid-90s, friday, saturday and getting into sunday. these three days for friday and into the weekend we'll have a chance for showers and storms and not going to be raining the whole time, but afternoon chances for friday into your sunday and then monday, tuesday and wednesday of next week we start to cool down. of course, tuesday, that's fourth of july and not looking too shabby for that. erica? >> thanks, lauren. still ahead, a rough day for the nats against the rs. sherry'sed u
