news 4 megan fitzgerald is live at dulles international airport with a look at the local impact on the high court's decision. megan. >> reporter: jill, so legal experts, supreme court experts tell us they don't believe there's going to be much of an impact based off of the supreme court's decision. here is why, they say folks that are coming in that have to get visas to get here are getting them coming here to study, they'll be visiting family or coming here to work. so even though those individuals who might be coming from those ban nations that are part of this travel ban, if they have reason to be here, experts say, there shouldn't be a problem for them to get here. it was a much different scene inside the international rival section even after the supreme court says they're allowing a limited version of president trump's travel ban. today there were signs welcoming friend and loved ones home, like the one summer is holding for her son who is arriving from the

>> my son comes from saudi arabia right now. >> reporter: six months ago it was a different scene. protesters filled the airports across the country. supreme court experts like paul hughes said that's likely because the latest decision shouldn't have an impact on travel. >> it helped that individuals that have a bona fide connection to the united states, either to a relative, family member of the united states or to an employer, academic institution, those individuals, well, would not be impacted by the travel ban. >>. >> reporter: he says anyone that was given a visa or wants one and has family in the u.s. or has a credible reason to be here for something like work or education, shouldn't be impacted by the ban. hughes said there could be confusion about what it's considered is a bona fide connection. but he doesn't see that

major issues. >> there will be some questions as to what degree of relationship is required to constitute a bona fide relationship. by and large those individuals most individuals will be able to travel to the united states because of the stays that have been issued by the lower court, those individuals should be comfortable based on kin traveling to the united states and their plans should proceed on impact. >> now, the supreme court also ruled today that they will be listening to arguments on the travel ban when they reconvene in october and, of course, that then is when we'll likely hear a decision on whether or not the travel ban stays or if it's overturn overturned. back to you. >> thank you, megan. the white house put out a statement after the supreme court's decision with the president calling it a victory for national security. saying in part, i want people who can love the united states and all of its citizens and who will be hardworking and

love for this pharmaceutical ceo who was about to go on trial for fraud. he's accused of defrauding investors and he gained infamy after he hiked the price of life saving age drug. jury selection today, several jurors say they cannot be fair because of that and one called him the most hated man in america. those jurors, by the way, were dismissed. we've got new numbers just out from the congressional budget office this evening, estimating that the senate health care bill if it passes 15 million people would lose insurance by next year, that number jumps to 22 million by 2026. meanwhile, republicans announced some tweaks to the measure today as they try to sure up party support. dan has our story. >> under self imposed deadline health care legislation before

republicans find themselves scraping for enough votes to pass their version of the bill. as it now stands, 5 republicans have come out publicly geagains the bill. four of those opposed say cuts don't go far enough. others are voicing concern over proposed cuts to medicaid looking to shore up support, republican leaders revised portions of the bill today aimed at deterring people to drop health insurance. it requires to let the coverage lapse for 63 days. no democrats on board, the gop could only afford to lose two republican votes for the bill to pass. >> i think these senators need to remember that they can't pay on repealing and replacing. >> highlights include key republican prices like ending a mandate to buy insurance and defunding planned parenthood. it keeps protections for those with pre-existing conditions but no long erman dates states require cove

care, also left in the bill, tax cuts for those with high incomes. >> this is really all about a huge huge tax break for the people in our country on the backs of the court and oldest people in our country, and that is wrong. >> local debate over health care reform heating up. the future of the gop bill farr from certain. dan, nbc news. and across the street from the hill, the supreme court had its final day for the current term. along with announcing that it will take up the president's controversial travel ban, the high court had some other decisions. leon harris is in our newsroom with a look at two other major cases. >> the supreme court ruled today on one case involving a separation -- this fall is going to hear a case involving a cake maker in same sex weddings. now, that first case involved a lutheran church in missouri that's denied a state grant. that program was helping groups

but the church had its application denied because a state law prohibited tax dollars going towards religious institutions. the court ruled in favor of the church that could do similar laws in 39 other states. we've also seen a number of cases voing businesses de -- involving businesses denying weddings services and this fall, supreme court is now saying it will hear arguments in a case involving a cake make ir. you may have heard of this case. he will not make cake for same sex couple it violates his religious view. courts have ruled that the state law there does not allow that refusal. phillips is appealing. one more note from the supreme court today, there had been some speculation that justice anthony who has been a crucial swing voter and major rulings over the years could be retiring. kennedy did not make any announcements about that today. so for

going to be sticking around, jim. >> all right. that would be big news. leon, thanks so much. the supreme court will be taking up that case involving the wedding cake vendor at a time when support for same sex marriage is at an all-time high. a new survey from the research center finds 62% of americans now support allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed. for the first time more baby boomers have a favorable view of same sex marriage, support among african-americans is also up with more than half saying they are now on board. well, proposing can be nerve wrecking and one man had to workup the nerve to ask two ladies to have him allow him in their lives forever. the photographer hidden in the trees is grant, he got down on one knee and asked for kassandra's hand in marriage and she said yes. grant wasn't done asking. he got down on one knee again and turned his attention to kassandra's

right now at 5:30, a call for a full investigation into allegations of corruption within the prince georges county school system. whistleblowers are saying they have evidence grades being changed to boost graduation rates. maryland's governor now asking the state board of education to look into this issue. our bureau chief, tracy wilkins has been following this controversy all day. she's live outside the offices in upper marl borrow with new information for us. tray s tracy, big day on this. >> for years i've been hearing allegations of people within the school system saying that there is great hampering that's happening and

passing who are not earning grades. well, members of the prince georges county school board wrote a letter to the governor and now the governor is saying it's time for a full investigation. for the maryland house of representative, says he wants answers from the prince georges's school ceo. >> we invest a lot of money in education in prince georges county and to have disturbing news like these allegations is very hard to stomach. >> reporter: after four of the county public school board members sent a letter to the governor that read in part it is with disappointment that we inform of you widespread systematic corruption. it went on all to detail grade changing in an effort to boost the county's graduation rate. they allege whistleblowers at every level had convincing evidence of wrongdoing that goes all the way to the top of the school system. he sent a letter tote

requesting the state board of education take immediate step it is to begin a complete thorough and exhaustive investigation into these allegations. walker says he wants to see the same thing. >> if there are documents that need to be taken a look at, you need to review some transcripts, they will have the authority to do it. >> i didn't ask for it. i didn't want it done. and plain and simple, they should have owned up to what they did. >> this mother came forward to news 4 after allegations of corruption surfaced. she said her son failed two core subjects and was i expected to attend summer school. was given a passing grade he didn't earn. he's now a senior in private school where he still struggles. >> he didn't know anything that he needed to know for biology and english. >> they released a statement that read in part these allegations are politically motivated and there is no system in

students are passing who don't deserve to pass. tracy wilkins, news 4. >> thank you, tracy. maryland's largest community college said it will be more transparent about the travel cost for its president. the inspector general reviewed the travel of montgomery colleague's president dr. darean, he presented the results today and the review shows the 91,000 that was spent in travel over a period of more than two years, does comply with what is allowed in the president's contract. the ig did recognize the college be more transparent with the student's staff and community about that spending and start reviewing the president's travel as part of its yearly financials. >> i have already charged our community engagement committee to work with our communications vice president and making sure that we can become more transparent to

they will know the kind of things that the president does, why she does it, where she does it and the results of it. >> college spokesperson says the board chair will also be reviewing the president's expenses and pleased the ig shows no improprieties with that spending. >> it's a story that rocked our region on friday afternoon last year. today a guilty plea from a maryland man who killed his wife and went on a shooting rampage and brought two more dead. one time officer with federal protective services admitted in court today that he murdered hez estranged wife outside high point high school as she waited to pick up her daughter. kor kneel already admitted to shooting three people outside westville montgomery mall and a woman outside a supermarket in aspen hill the following day. two of those victims died. sentencing is set for september. tragic death in two separate accidents just days apart. in

out of their vehicles on a busy highway. this morning it was the inner loop. a woman killed when she stepped from her vehicle after she was struck from behind. crews had to shutdown the inner loop. left hundreds of drivers in their cars for hours with nowhere to go. our bureau chief has been talking with safety experts about the rules of the road and what you need to do if you break down or have an accident. she's live in fairfax this evening to tell us, how -- what do you do with this kind of situation that's pretty common, you know. >> yeah. hey, windy, interstate speeds make it too dangerous for us to set up there right now. you're looking at the rush hour traffic in fairfax. triple a tells us this summer alone they'll get calls to rescue some 7 million stranded motorists and those out are on the interstate highway, they're in the most dangerous

meeting with indian prime minister, the leader of the world's most populated democracy. the president and first lady greeted him when he arrived at the white house this afternoon. the trump administration is at odds with india on some major issues, including trade and climate change. and live look right now at the rose garden where we expect -- we are hearing now a joint statement from the president and prime minister. it's unclear whether mr. trump or prime minister will be taking any questions. a symbol of peace and love that was killed off after the election coming back from the dead. cartoonist is bringing back pepe the frog. he debuted in 2006. last year members of the atlanta right fringe group started using that cartoon as a mascot. he decided to kill him after the november election, he called it art therapy. but today he launched a crowd funding campaign to raise money for

the rider is to plam, that's the word tonight from investigators in new york after a 14-year-old girl fell from that amusement park ride. she slipped under a restraining bar on the sky ride, six flags great escape on saturday. she dangled up there for a few seconds before dropping 25 feet into a crowd standing to catch her. police say she's okay. inspectors cleared the ride to reopen. one expert said even the strikest guidelines won't prevent accidents if riders don't follow the rules. and just when we thought salvadore couldn't get any more surreal. they may be digging up his body so they can conduct a paternity test. a woman claims her mother had a an affair with if painter in 19 55 a year
