in a statement the president said, today's ruling allows me to use an important tool for protecting our nation's homeland. sean spicer spoke at the white house briefing where cameras have been ban. >> his number one responsibility is to keep the american people safe and that's exactly what this executive order does. >> but the court did leave one category of foreigners protected, those with a credible claim of bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the united states. meaning those with family here, taking a job, or coming to study or teach at a university. >> i think we are going to see a little bit of confusion going forward about where that bona fide connection to the united states actually lies, but, you know, it was way for the court to give a little bit to both sides. >> the court will hear the full case in october. as the administration appeals lower court

they're married. the court today said you don't do that with straight couples. if a woman has child and married someone who was not the father, the state puts their names on the birth certificate, so it shouldn't handle same sex couples any differently. but today the court agreed to hear a challenge from a denver baker, who said it violates his religious freedom and his freedom of expression to have to sell cakes for same sex weddings because he doesn't support them. so the court will hear that case in the fall. the recent years the court has turned away similar challenges for photographer who didn't want to photograph same sex marriage. >> mixed messages, mixed signals, i guess, from the court today. pete, a lot of talk and speculation, really, about the possibility of justice kennedy retiring from the court are we getting any clarity on that. >> not a

that was never suggested as a way of saving money was that they would kick children on the plan off of the plan to save money. >> so here is why, currently loda beneficiaries in virginia are on different health insurance policies because their health plan are administered through their employers, which in most cases are cities or counties. but starting july 1st, the virginia department of human resource management will administer one health benefit program so that all loda beneficiaries will have the same level of coverage, news 4 alert, that there are a number of loda beneficiaries who current plan allow them to add a spouse or child after the date of their disability. unfortunately, those family members will not be covered under the new loda health benefit plan and will have to find alternative coverage. >> what does it mean for your family. >> well, i would encourage you the next time you sit down with

to look around and look at 20% of your family that's no longer insured. >> an instant, it's where -- i'm sorry. >> the department of human resource management acknowledgment what it says are a small number of children and spouses who will lose their health coverage. but also point out that the over haul to loda will save the state and local governments $40 million over ten years. in a statement the agency tells news 4, the changes to the line of duty act are very important for fairness and equity and to make sure that the loda program is still there for public safety officers that need it in the future. but the changes which are right around the corner are coming too fast for this family. >> now, i feel like the plans
