raped. the boys were charged but in may prosecutors dropped those charges saying the evidence didn't support the case. >> but it did raise concerns about safety at the school which prompted news 4 i-team to go in and investigate. scott. >> news 4 has learned the public schools have ordered $1.5 million in security upgrades for 22 of its 25 high schools. that includes the installation of new security gates, door locks and so-called security to better prevent attacks and intruders. all high schools will get some type of new security equipment except the three very recently renovated buildings. . the work begins this summer and will continue into the fall and administrative briefed school board members on what's coming. >> primary

enhance current security measures. they're already in place. it will provide better control, interior spaces, as well as exterior spaces or certain sections of the building both during and after school hours. >> school district officials tells new 4 they'll undertake security review of nearly 200 middle and elementary schools. and that review will likely spill into next year. >> thank you, scott. let's get to breaking news coming from capitol hill. senate republicans have arrived at the white house for president trump. all of this coming a few hours after mitch mcconnell announced there will be no vote on the gop health care bill this week as promised. mcconnell said they're working to get the 50 votes necessary to pass the bill. the president expected the gop senators to support the measure. blayne alexander has a look at what this will mn

more of you are sharing your stories atv riders terrorizing your town. take a look at what happened just this weekend at national harbor. >> we don't know whether it's the same group of riders. kristin wright follows each report you sent us. another sighting, what are you hearing about this? >> reporter: there was a huge group right where i'm standing on sunday. we talked to one man who was out walking his dog when he noticed it. he thought it was some kind of demonstration. he really had no idea at first what was going on, so this huge group of illegal a tvs of bikes and motorcycles came right up here along route 1. this is right near the alexandria arlington line

intersection and then they ended up right here, some of them even in the bus lanes, right there in the middle between the two sides of traffic. we want you to see the video. this is from a gas station right here from their surveillance cameras. it shows the illegal a tvs, dirt bikes and motorcycles and they just keep coming, one after the other nonstop. we know it was a full minute for more that they just kept coming and arlington police got a call and they came out and responded to a gas station. by the time they got there, the riders were gone. the department not only pursued on a limited case-by-case basis for these situation. d.c. doesn't -- a lot of police work. people seem to get that but they want to know how they put a stop to it. here is one guy's idea, listen here. >> they're doing it. sometimes you might see the bikes

new at information after allegations of widespread grade changing in an effort to boost graduation rates. tracy wilkins broke the news today on twitter. the ceo of the public school system is state board of education for thorough review of ak vooigss. this after maryland's governor made that same request. tracee wilkins live. what's the latest? >> reporter: unexpected for us to hear from the ceo saying that he also wanted an independent investigation. he's saying that he wants transparency and that indeed there has been some kind of corruption that did not come from his team and he wants to know where it's happening and if it's happening at all. let me take you back to that state board of education that just wrapped up a little more than an hour ago. ewe unanimous mouse vote for investigation into allegations of grade changing in order to boost the prince

graduation rates. now we have heard for anonymous sources, folks who do not want to be identified but teachers and parents who are saying that they have seen this happening and they want it to change and they want it to stop. for school board members wrote a letter asking the governor to call for independent investigation. today the strait board of education said that they will indeed investigate and that they're going to rely on the help of a third party. now, one of the people who we spoke to today kevin maxwell, here is what he had to say about asking for investigate on his own. >> i have not, nor has anybody on my team told people to change grades that shouldn't be changed after working on the multiple pathways work. and so there's no systemic corruption and we want them to show that so we can maybe put this away once and

>> reporter: now you heard ceo maxwell talk about how multiple pathways work. that's the opportunity to get students who are not passing successfully on their own. he said that it's something that is absolutely legal. and he said this is the work that gives students second opportunity. for one teachers describe to us that this is actually what's happening. >> the focus has been on 12th grade and passing rates in ninth grade, moving as many kids through the system as possible. >> what does that look like, how does that work? >> well, it's never anything in writing, nothing, you know, coming down the line of just pass everyone. there's a lot of pressure and inewe window. what can we do to help this student? what kind of work can you give to get this kid over the line? they're not directly ordering to change grade. if you don't change the grade or don't give the

principal has the authority to do what's called an administrative over ride and they can change the grade. >> reporter: again, dr. maxwell is saying they are unfounded on the letter he wrote to the state board of education. he had the signature of nine members who are supporting his efforts and call for independent investigation that will be done by a third party contracted by the maryland state board of education. reporting live in baltimore, tracee wilkins, back to you all in the studio. >> thank you, tracee. when you were a child, school started after labor day. some are returning to that traditional schedule. in a few hours we can know stafford county will join us. the school board, rather, meets at 7:00 tonight during the last meeting they considered a survey that shows parents prefer to go after labor day. if the proposal passes, the

food supplies for instance in south africa, they found pesticide poured in a huge milk tank. there's also a major threat that took place from an environmental terrorist organization in greece that threatened several major food producers, including nestle and a u.s. company as well. they're really concerned about the possibility that ideas are being floated out there that terrorist might take advantage of. >> what does dhs say that these companies should do to secure the food supply? >> well, one thing -- what they're saying is companies need to pay close attention to people who essentially engage around foods suspiciously. people who have access and they call them insiders to food supplies, food storage supplies, people who may act suspiciously like taking photographs and loitering in certain places,

on the mall today visiting mu z -- museums. and then when the fireworks come, that's when the big crowd arrives, including a lot of locals. police say they are prepared to keep everyone here safe. . it's america's birthday, attracting an enormous crowd to the national mall. security experts say because of this symbolic significance. there's heightened awareness this independence day although there's no credible threat at this time. >> folks who are visiting the fall this week will notice some of the fencing starting to go up, the bike rack starting to come in place establishing those secure areas to inspect those participants. >> recent terrorists attacks have targeted large crowds. last july, 86 were killed le

over the senate health care bill. republican leaders have hoped to pass it before they left. but that plan went to a halt late this afternoon. duane alexander is -- blayne is tracking this for you. they're headed over to the white house to meet with president trump. >> it's kind of a last-minute effort to come to some sort of an agreement. the short answer to your question, what's happening right now. it's a no-go, at least for now, they'll be waiting until after the july 4th holiday to get this through. this is exactly what republicans were trying to avoid. they didn't want to send their members home without getting this done. they didn't want to face angry town halls and they didn't want to lose momentum. mitch mcconnell said they simply just need more time to get the support they need in order for this to pass. now, for republicans this all comes down to a numbers game. already a total of at least five senators had come out strongly agt
