out of your holiday weekend. another chance for thunderstorms later on today. i'll let you know where that thunderstorm chance is highest coming up. and chuck, we're watching a crash on 95 in woodbridge and it has all northbound north facing e-zpass express lanes blocked. the vehicles overturned on its roof and northbound between the prince william parkway and 123 where all traffic remains at a complete stop in the e-zpass lanes. main line gets by. to the right past the rescue party. in maryland, issues in fairland, northbound 29 is blocked near randolph road and cherry hill. traffic is sent on to the service road. this affects northbound 29 heading north toward cheney. the southbound lanes are open. luckily, volume on the right side in -- back to you. we're following breaking news in springfiel

>> erika gonzalez at the live desk. >> right. an update from fairfax county police. a few updates in the past couple of minutes on this death investigation that's happening near the springfield plaza. police say a man was seen breaking into a business. they found him inside. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. detectives were originally called to the scene about 2:00 in the morning for somebody that was hurt on the ground. they took that person to the hospital and he was pronounced dead. they're working right now to figure out if the two are correlated in any way. we've got justin finch headed to the scene. as soon as we get an update from him there from him on the ground, we'll have it for you right here. back over to you guys. >> erika, thank you. 6:402. overnight breaking news in prince george's county. one person is dead, another injured after a crash. this happened just before 9:00 last night on pine drive in accokk.

may have been a factor here. one of the cars was crossing indian head highway when it was hit. the driver who was hit is dead. the crash comes as many of you are preparing to head out for the holiday weekend. >> megan mcgrath continues our team coverage now on what you need to know before you hit the road. good morning, megan. >> well, good morning, guys. of course, a lot of people are going to be headed to the beach for the july 4th holiday. they're going to have to cross this bridge that you see behind me. the bay bridge. right now, things look terrific. if you can leave the house now, that would be just the way to go. there is absolutely no wait at the toll booths. traffic is running at speeds. we've got the normal configuration here going on at this point. but later on, usually around 10:00, 10:30, they take a westbound lana way. allow that reverse of traffic headed eastbound to relieve the congestion. right now that hasn't happened because volume is light. now, later today we're expecting thi

ones with open arms. as a limited version of president trump's travel ban took effect, this stops people from six majority muslim countries from getting visas to the u.s. unless they have a close family or business tie. just hours after the ban was in place, hawaii went to federal court challenging the administration's definition of a close u.s. relationship. that's an area some immigration attorneys we spoke to say expect to stay busy challenging. >> it doesn't include grandparents. another thing it doesn't include is fiances and cousins. there are a lot of people that are going to be excluded still. >> the justice department has until monday to respond to hawaii's challenge. if you haven't seen this yet, it will be all over your social media feeds today. this is today's cover of the new york daily news. this is how the paper is framing president trump's latest controversy going after the host of

in new mexico. about 30 minutes north of albuquerque. this is at a gravel mine where workers are trapped. initially, four workers were stuck. one pair has since been pulled from the gravel. however, two remain waist-deep. this is so dangerous. in fact, that rescue worker cannot use heavy machinery. they are laboring by hand. family members have arrived and as you can imagine, it is a very tense and a very delicate situation that we will keep our eyes on. back over to you. erika, thank you. it's 6:13 right now. this morning, friends and family are mourning the loss of a high school graduate. 18-year-old bianca nicole roberson of westchester was shot and killed as a result of a road rage incident. this happened on wednesday. police say bianca and another driver were trying to merge into the same lane. police say the other driver shot bianca in the head and then drove off. >> that man who fired the shot, turn yourself in

you are only making this worse for yourself. >> bianca was headed to jacksonville university in the fall. there have been seven drownings since late may in our area. four of them involve young children. back in april, a little boy died in this pond just outside of his home in loudoun county. his mother is on a mission to save other young lives. she wants a fence built around the pond, so this doesn't happen to another family. >> i miss his smile every day. i have lot of stress, by seeing his smile, everything was -- now he's not going to come back. >> she has asked the neighborhood association to build that fence. we reached out to them and they referred us to their attorney. coming up on 15 after the hour now. maybe you're headed to new jersey for the lodge holiday weeken

possible government shutdown. lawmakers will return to the statehouse today to figure out if they can come up with a budget plan that will pass. at that time, the state-run parks and beaches stayed open during the holiday. but closed right after. it is 6:15. this weekend, several new laws go into effect in our area. starting tomorrow, the minimum wage increases from $8.75 to $9.25 in maryland. state legislature also passed a new law which requires maryland schools to have specific education for opioid addiction. and you'll be able to get a stronger drink in virginia. stores will be selling more 151 proof liquors. you can find a list of all the new laws going into effect on the nbc washington app. search new laws. there is a new dress code for loudoun county public schools. new rules for proper school outfits passed tuesday night. hats will be

good morning, chuck. we're keeping track of a major incident in the 95 e-zpass express lanes and one indication that it is a serious crash as we take a look at the camera. there you can see it's a medivac helicopter. it's on the pavement. all northbound express lanes are blocked on i-95 between woodbridge and 123. owe seengsly between the prince william parkway and 123. state police are diverting traffic off of the express lanes back in the main line highway. the crash is serious. all northbound express lanes are blocked as we await the -- as we wait for the chopper to lift off and as we wait for more information on exactly when the express lanes will reopen. here is chopper 4 flying above the scene. you can see main line gets by to the right. big time delays heading north of dale city from here on out as the crash investigation gets ready to go. that's the latest, back to you. all right, dave. thank you. legal trouble for a tennis st

we are tracking several big stories. a death investigation and a burglary. fairfax investigators are trying to figure out if the two are connected. police are at a shopping plaza in springfield. here's a live look at a crash on 95 in woodbridge. the express lanes are shut down and it is going to be a nasty commute for anyone about to hit the road right now. >> a deadly crash overnight. lanes just opened in the last hour after an accident that may have involved drag racing. it is 6:30. just about now. a busy morning around here. >> we want to get to chopper 4 right now. take a live look at the

fourth of july forecast. it is 6:34. let get you up to speed on some of the morning's other top stories. police are trying to figure out whether reckless driving had anything to do with a deadly accident in prince george's county. this was the scene late last night on pine drive in accokeek. medics rushed the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital where one died. a new immigration law on the way to the senate. the house passed kate's law yesterday which is named after kate steinle. she was shot and killed by an undocumented immigrant. the bill would increase penalties on undocumented immigrants who re-enter the country illegally after previous deportations the justice department has until monday to respond after hawaii challenged the trump administration's travel ban. a limited version of the ban took effect last night. it stops people from six majority muslim countries from getting visas into the u.s. unless they have a close family or business tie.

hawaii is challenging the definition. reyhan had dreams of becoming a veterinarian. her mother is trying to cope with an unimaginable loss. sel salve og lieu was hit by a train. she was walking on the railroad bridge with her brother and cousin when the train came. her cousin said he was able to jump out of the way. he yelled for her to jump too, but she just kept running. >> i believe that god just loved her so much that he wanted her in heaven with him. and one day we'll be reunited with her. >> family members started a go fund me account to raise money for reyhan's funeral. anne arundel county football coach is charged with a sex offense involving a student. marvin leon brown jr. was arrested on wednesday.

their focus. it appears to be the scene of an attempted burglary happening about 2:30 or so this morning. as you can see, shattered glass outside that store. a car rammed into that window. a pet cushion appears to have fallen outside. one man was taken into custody after this event and taken to a hospital. we're told another situation is unfolding. that is the scene of a death investigation, a man found back there with upper body trauma. he was taken to the hospital where he has since died of his injuries. we have heard various reports as to what may have caused those injuries. but that's not yet been confirmed by police. if it was a stabbing or not. we'll find that out in a few minutes. the big question here, though, are these two cases related? this burglary attempt as well as the man found dead. that question may be answered in just about a few minutes. once we get it, we'll have it on air. back to you. >> justin, thank you. i'm

we're expecting record numbers of people to leave this holiday weekend, to travel 50 miles or more. more than a million people and many will be headed to the beach and going over the bay bridge, which can be a bottleneck. a lot of people have this question. when should i leave? what's the best time to avoid traffic? we'll take a look here. if you are leaving for the beach today, you want to cross the bridge before 8:00 a.m. if you can't do that, you want to avoid traffic, then leave after 10:00 tonight. if you're leaving tomorrow, leave before 6:00 a.m. if you can or after 8:00 p.m. that way, you'll avoid that middle of the day period. that is when the traffic is at its worst. rule thumb for the return trip, leave early, leave late. kind of common sense here. right now things are looking pretty good. they have not yet changed the configuration of the traffic on that westbound span as we head later into the day. they're going to take away a lane from the westbound folks, give it to t
