helping them. >> we are expecting police to give us an update on this situation at any moment. we'll update you when we're updated. we are also following breaking developments in our area, new effort to crack down on dangerous a tvs before the busy holiday weekend. today police released dozens of photos of people they say are terrorizing others on every street, as they ride around doing stunts on a tvs and dirt bikes. it's believed some of them come from places as far as indiana and florida. here is a look at eight of the suspects who may have been involved in a ride around national harbor earlier this week. authorities are hoping the photos will help lead to arrest. we have team coverage starting with prince georges county harbor bureaus. >> reporter: the police have putting an all out effort to catching these people who are riding around on these illegal

they're not suppose to be on the street. now, they're saying they need the public's help. prince georges county police want to know if you know these men. these pictures taken with surveillance video and cell phone, show some of the riders police believe responsible for a mass atv joyride down sidewalks and the main street of national harbor this past weekend. >> this is just the first of several pictures and identifications that are going to be made. >> reporter: the riders were throughout the district of columbia, maryland and police say they're putting an end to this. >> we intend to change the culture of the atv and dirt bike riding folks, at least in prince georges county. >> reporter: starting this weekend, police will be patrolling on atvs and dirt bikes to help make officers more mobile. there's also increased video surveillance for a tvs throughout the property and that's just the

unit down here. they'll be on standby to monitor and follow these a tvs should they decide to show up. >> the increased police presence was obvious around the harbor, to both residents and visitors today. >> it's good they're patrolling, bad they have to do that. it is what it is. >> it's community, you've got to respect it. if they don't, it will be destroyed. >> reporter: prince georges county police are saying that this work is not isolated, just national harbor, but they have similar efforts throughout the county, but because they know this is a target area, they are going to be on patrol. they say that these are riding around on the a tvs. i'm tracee wilkins, back to you all in the studio. dc police sent us page after page. we're talking about more than 50 people and dozens of images. the chief says t

terrorizing the city and he wants them off the street. dupont circle is one of the areas the atv took over last weekend, news 4 spencer is live to continue our team coverage there, darcy. >> reporter: wendy, as you know, this has been a problem for a number of years that we've been reporting about atv riders, dirt bike riders taking over the streets of dc, often doing it with impunity because they know about the no-chase policy. today the chief of police came out very strong releasing photos, just like this one, of dozens of dozens of riders that they're looking for in connection with this investigation, just like tracee said in prince georges county here in dc, they want to get these identified and get them under arrest. there are 54 photos in all. some of the men have distinctive clothing and tattoos. police say the m

illegal minibikes, dirt bikes and a tvs on sunday here in the district. now, viewers came forward and provided new footage of these riders taking over pennsylvania avenue, eighth street and down by the tidal basin. people are outraged about this. the chief said today that these riders, as they said, come from as far away florida and indiana. >> behavior is reckless, dangerous. it terrorizes our kids, our moms, our dads, our senors and it's pathetically, in my opinion, juvenile. grown men acting like juveniles. for those of you who have been talking to me, for those of you who are sick and tired of this behavior, please take a look at these images and help us identify these folks and we will do the rest.

be in good health. the mother may be a victim of the crime. they have a safe haven law that allows parents to give up custody of newborns in hospital or police stations. there's a murder investigation in popular shopping center in fairfax county. an argument at a bar escalated. it ended with one man dead and glass door front shattered. that's where we find our northern virginia reporter, david, with the details of this. david. >> reporter: wendy, you mentioned this happened over night. here we are about 15 hours later. you can see the crime scene tape up. this is a very popular shopper center right here in northern virginia, just off 95. you can see what was made behind me. see all the shattered glass back

annoyan announced it's closing the location. chris gordon gets reaction from dulles, to this popular store shutting its doors. >> he brought his children to the nordstrom town center today. he was surprised to hear that nordstrom plans to close this store after september 8. >> i know my wife is not going to be happy. she shops here often. >> nordstroms issued this statement. we've been fortunate to build great relationships with our customers and employees at our dulles town center store for the past 15 years. however, our operating agreement is set to expire and closing this store is the best decision for us. nordstrom did not announce the specific reason that they are closing their dulles town center store. but it comes at a very competitive time for brick and mortar stores. amazon has bec

we have new details in that deadly shooting inside that hospital at the bronx. we just learned that the gunman was a doctor, shot and killed himself. before that, his shooting rampage left one person dead, several others injured. >> nbc news is reporting he tried to start fire in the hospital, but the sprinkler system put it out. more information on this breaking story. >> reporter: it happened just before 3:00 at bronx lebanon hospital in the bronx section of new york city. police say a gunman pulled out a rifle and opened fire on the eighth floor. >> confirmed, shots fired. >> reporter: police stormed the building as patients and employees fed

>> i was following everyone. >> reporter: the shooter is a former hospital employee, dr. henry belo. it's unknown what prompted him to open fire. >> everyone is in shock. we're just worried about the other employees or the other people that might have been gotten injured. >> reporter: people are being treated, one of the victims is confirmed dead. five other shooting victims are not known at this point. they're treating this as workplace violence and don't believe it's connected to international terrorism. chris malone, nbc news new york. police in the district in prince georges county are cracking down on atv and dirt bike riders who have been taking to the streets. two departments released dozens of photos of these suspected riders. they say they've been terrorizing the communities with vehicles that were not meant to be on the road and on the sidewalk. that includes the national harbor. investigators say they may have

and indiana. this weekend expect to see more police in the area that have been targeted. we have posted the images of these riders on our nbc washington facebook page, take a look. news 4 i-team reveal spike in theft in our region, at least 3,000 of them. many of the stolen wheels end up in the hands of the joyriders. scott mcfarlane is here to explain this. >> and i-team review of police records in dc, virginia and maryland revealed some of the black market is operating now. crooks targeting the bikes. they break in, take off and then sell the stolen atv bikes online, including craig's list and instagram. stolen goods often resurface 30 to 100 miles away. we saw thefts happening in yards, stores

gang related. we've got to wake up. >> he faces more than 60 years in prison and prosecutors say they will be asking for a lengthy sentence. >> the courageous actions of the animal control officer may have saved the life of a young bald eagle. the animal was being attacked by crows behind a business in fredericksburg. animal control sergeant peter o'brien captured the eagle using a towel to protect itself. the eagle was taken to the virginia wild life center where vets determined it had a severe virus and possibly a lung infection. it's too soon to know if it's going to pull through. you may be welcoming visitors for a backyard holiday weekend. this morning they found an early and uninvited visitor had come to dine in t

daily parking garage because they found a suspicious package. we're looking at the live pictures from the air, again the daily parking garage has been evacuated. they are reporting that officials are connecting a security check in the garage and they popped up with a poz tisit alert. we'll keep an eye on this and see what they find and bring you the latest. >> thank you, chris. tennis star venus williams is being sued after causing a deadly crash in florida. the family of the elderly man who died filed a lawsuit in palm beach county today. this comes a day after a police report revealed williams was at fault. the crash happened earlier this month. according to police investigators, he walked in front of the other vehicle which had a green light. williams said she did not see the car before crossing into its lane. she's not charged. >> a massive manhunt for the

in a fit of road rage. 18-year-old bianca roberson was driving home from a shopping trip. she and a man in a red pickup truck both tried to merge into the same lane. we all do that. that's when the man pulled out a gun and shot roberson point blank and then sped off. >> her car started jostling with a red pickup truck, not actually hit him, but both of them trying to merge together. and then she was shot. the man in the red pickup truck shot her directly in the head. >> she was killed instantly. they say every officer in three states looking for that red shef ri pickup truck and murder -- chevy pickup truck and murder suspect. we have much more on this case and that includes interview with

montgomery county the liquor control employees who was accused of stealing alcohol is on leave without pay. they arrested him on theft charges. they arrested another man after the department of liquor control alerted them about someone stealing alcohol from the county truck. snowden was a warehouse worker and truck driver's helper. he's accused after hours near the dlc warehouse and stealing more than $21,000 worth of alcohol since february of this year. yesterday we reported that snowden has worked for the agency before. in 2014, the former dlc director said in an e-mail, he had been terminated more than a week after the news 4 i-team report looked into allegations of theft with the dlc. well, the new dlc director got back to us this afternoon with more informationin

snowden left his position in 2014 for personal reasons. they say there's no evidence he was involved in any prior reported theft and, therefore, there was no issue in rehiring him in july of 2015. it was an historic fire, one that prompted the biggest fire response ever seen in prince georges county. it happened back in april at a construction site where they're building new apartments for somebody in college park. today is demolition day as crews began taking the building down piece by piece. here is a look at what comes next, derrick. >> reporter: well, you know, i'll tell you what, the people who run this building, this wasn't the way they planned on showing these apartments. they were suppose to be ready for occupancy in july. obviously not because of that fire, major set back. what they're doing, though, they'll take the top levels down

again. today, we talked with the officials at prince georges county department why it burned so furiously and why it was so hard to fight. it was epic, april of this year, one of the largest building fires ever, prince georges county grazed through. we still don't know how it started. >> we do believe the fire could be accidental in nature. >> the apartments were suppose to be occupied, they're starting over. not from the ground up but from the garage level up. you can see why this was such a tough fire to fight. >> we didn't have fire doors in place, a lot of open areas and where there's airflow, you'll have heat and fire as well. >> sprinklers were installed they weren't working yet. there's something else here in this massive debris pile. it's known as light weight construction. the outside, lower cost. the down side comes with the fire. >> it added fuel to the fire. we're seeing more and more of
