>> reporter: and we can tell you, we did hear more than a few of the first type, the illegal type of fireworks in our drive around the city tonight. live on the national mall, jackie bensen, news 4. >> thanks, jackie. travelers headed out of dwi marshal airport this evening may have had trouble parking there because of a suspicious package. a security check came up with a positive alert for explosives. but it turns out nothing was ever found. dwi says the incident did not delay flights and they gave the all clear at 6:30. let's turn to that holiday weekend forecast. we know it's going to be hot, amelia, but you're watching storm chances tomorrow. >> exactly. we're going to have scattered showers and thunderstorms around tomorrow afternoon. in y new information coming in has the timing between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. should you cance

plans? i would say don't cancel plans but have a backup plan, be able to move indoors quickly. some showers moving into the eastern shore. our area, mostly dry. we really do stay dry overnight tonight. notice this line of thunderstorms mainly in ohio and kentucky. this is out of a cold front, this is what will be impacting us tomorrow afternoon. and some storms could be strong to severe, because of the heat and humidity that we'll be dealing with. the biggest concern by far and away is going to be heavy rainfall and slow moving storms that could lead to isolated flash flooding, water collecting on the roads, a heads up there. the next concern would be high winds that could cause some wind damage. coming up in my full forecast at 11:18, i'll walk you through hour by hour with future weather, letting you know the latest timing on when storms move through your neighborhood. and with the sight and the sound of engines revving, atvs and dirt bikes taking over the road

dmv. now police say they are fighting back. here are the pictures they are my they released today, riders that police want to face the consequences of their actions. news 4's darcy spencer is live at national harbor. darcy, are people reacting to this move by police? >> reporter: they certainly are. we've been here at national harbor for the last couple of hours. it's been very crowded tonight. the issue with atvs and dirt bikes is not driving people away. people we spoke to all knew about this but obviously still came here tonight. it's a beautiful night at national harbor. the wheel, the water. the perfect night for a fourth of july weekend. there's also more police. and this, atv imaging in progress. authorities are trying to stop this from happening again. last weekend, dozens of riders illegally drove their dirt bikes and atvs on the streets and

destination. >> i understand y'all want to have fun. but i don't think it's the right place and the right time to come down here riding those atvs. >> reporter: and the police agree. now they're fighting back. they're on atvs too, to make sure officers are more mobile and able to respond quickly. prince georges county police released photos of persons of interest they're looking for in connection with this joyride. >> we intend to change the culture of atv-riding folks in prince georges county. >> reporter: police released photos of 54 men they say were riding illegal bikes. >> this behavior is reckless. it's dangerous. it terrorizes our kids, our moms, our dads, our seniors. >> reporter: we spoke to people taking in the night air at national harbor about the bikes and the police response. have you seen the video? >> i've seen the video. >> r

vehicle struck a minivan. witnesses told officers that several vehicles were speeding and driving recklessly. the investigation continues. police say that someone tried to burglarize a pet store in springfield last night after stabbing a man to death at a nearby shopping center. he's facing murder charges tonight. authorities tell us that he broke into the business at springfield plaza early this morning. they say that the attempted highest came after the suspect got into an argument with a man and killed him. employs say hart was a well-liked customer there. the suspect was also injured. investigators are now trying to figure out if he was hurt during the argument or during the burglary. virginia, one of the states pushing back after president trump's voter fraud commission asked for detailed personal information about voters in every state. the commission is investigating alleged voter fraud. after losing the popular vote to hillary

a lot of people had angels over them today. >> you hear this phrase all the time. you have to see it to believe it. that's the case with this video. a small twin-engine plane dropped out of the sky and exploded into flames. this happened this morning on california's 405 freeway, one of the most crowded freeways on the west coast. the plane had just taken off from john wayne

pilot declared an emergency, tried to make his way back to the airport, and couldn't pull it off. an off-duty firefighter pulled a couple out of the wreckage moments after the crash. >> the plane was on fire almost immediately as soon as it hit the median. i surprised the wife, she wasn't a very big lady, but she was trying to pull her husband out of the plane as well. i was amazed, they weren't burned. >> the couple was taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries. three cars hit various parts of the plane but amazingly, no one else was hurt. wow. demolition crews are tearing down what's left of an apartment building in college park. the complex along burr win house road was under construction when it went up in flames in april, the largest suppression fire in prince georges county history. more than 200 firefighters were working on the scene. we still don't know what caused it. montgomery county says a liquor control employee accused of steg

without pay. earlier this week, police arrested kelvin snowden jr. and jean auguste after someone reported them stealing a fence and more than $21,000 worth of alcohol since february. yesterday we reported snowden worked for the dlc once before, in 2014. the director said in an e-mail that the storm had been terminated after a news 4 report investigating allegations of theft. he left his position in 2014 for personal reasons and there's no evidence he was involved in any prior reported thefts therefore there was no issue in rehiring him in july of 2015. a wild encounter for a northern virginia couple after unexpected guests decided to stop by for breakfast. you'll only see this video right

cameras caught this hungry intruder this morning in fairfax station. i guess as an appetizer, he cleaned out the sewage feeder and moved to the bird feeder, then stood up to see if there was any more food in the bird houses. >> my wife thought he was cute. i was on the phone with west springfield police and the inland fisheries and animal control and then 911. he used his body to shove it down, sort of like a linebacker going to make a tackle. >> the bear spent about 40 minutes in the yard. took a little nap there. then got up and went over the fence and disappeared into the woods. the owner says he does not plan on refilling those bird feeders. probably a good idea, you think? >> yeah. at least everything was okay, right? >> good grief. wouldn't want to be wearing a fur coat tomorrow. >> absolutely not. angie goss came up with th

here at 2:00 p.m., we're tracking a broken line of rain and thunderstorms moving through the area ahead of a cold front. look at the bright coloring in frederick county, south of luray, there could be heavy rainfall and potentially heavy thunderstorms. rain in loudoun, fairfax county, parts of stafford and king george counties as well. 5:00 p.m., moving through anne arundel county. 6:00, the focus shifts to maryland. by 10:00 p.m., we're dry. the time frame between 2:00 to 6:00. currently, temperatures in the 70s and 80s. 82 in washington, 76 in gaithersburg. this is how hot it will feel tomorrow afternoon, with the humidity. close to 100 in washington, manassas, leesburg, around the gaithersburg area. even at 6:00 p.m., it's still pretty hot out there with the
