>> take a look at storm team 4 radar tracking two batches of rain. one in north washington and another to the south. this first batch most of the county generally seeing light showers. traveling along parts of 70 dealing with rain as folks are coming home from work. then we head south around the wood bridge area. what we're seeing is this rain kind of stationary and as we head throughout the evening hours we will kind of continue to see it in the same areas. slowly coming together and maybe bring showers into the beltway. 84 degrees right now. scattered showers at 7 p.m. by 9:00 potentially in the metro, as well. otherwise mostly cloudy. we will be dealing with rain at times throughout the day. i will be tracking that for you coming up.

could lose his hand after playing with fireworks. >> firefighters say the boy was rushed to a trauma center in baltimore. megan fitsgerald has more on what happened. what have you learned about this? >> what we know at this point is that that little boy was rushed to the hospital. he is in his young teens. they say he received serious burns to head, torso and hands. this is the type of incident that fire officials try to warn people about trying to send a message that losing a hand or limb because of fireworks just isn't worth it. watching fireworks is usually the best part of the night. using them your 168 could be the worse. not only are they illegal in prince george's county. fire officials say a young boy was badly burned after playing

>> loudoun county deputies helped catch 27-year-old marlo mendez. he told immigration officers his handcuffs were too tight. as they loosened the cuffs they say he ran off. he was caught two hours later. david culver is outside the court. what are we learning about the suspect today? >> reporter: i can tell you that we were inside the courtroom just a short time ago when he appeared for the first time in front of a judge. because of the holiday yesterday he was still in custody. he went in front of the judge. we know about marlo mendez a little bit more. he is a citizen from el salvador. i want to take you back with a little more detail. it started monday in loudoun county with initial arrest for being allegedly drunk in public and local

to assault and battery. loudoun county deputies transferred custody to immigration officers. immigration officers decided to transport him from louden to fairfax. this is how it all played out. we were above the scene on monday as that incident within the van turned violent. apparently his handcuffs were too tight. he asked one officer to loosen them. the officer pulled over on the dulles freeway, got out and loosened it. that is when he got hit and marlo mendez apparently took off. he was gone for more than three hours. they had several different agencies trying to help out. you had loudoun county deputies trying to help. they were able to locate him some four miles away. this is a story that has us digging a lot deeper tonight working for you because i know on the nbc washington facebook pageen

several of you are asking the question how did something like this happen especially when you hear this fact that he has been deported five times before. this would have been his sixth deportation since 2007. how does that happen? court documents say in part it may have been because he was able to use aliases. >> david culver, thank you. we are learning new details about a deadly shooting in suitland. police have identified the victim as 18-year-old tyrek walker. walker died at the scene. police haven't released a motive for the murder yet and no arrests so far. deadly shooting in new york city is getting national attention. friends of the new york city police officer shot and killed in an ambush style attack says she was just the sweetest person. miosotis familia was killed when a gunman opened fire earlier this morning. police found the

shot and killed him. people who knew familia said the mother of three joined the force to help the community and was very giving. you will see the report on this later in this newscast. a little boy is one of the five people recovering after a number of shootings in the district. one person died overnight. someone shot him in southeast d.c. no one was hurt seriously in four other shootings. one near covenant baptist church around 1:30 a shooting on chesapeake street. police responded to two other shootings first on minnesota avenue and then on sixth street. despite the shootings d.c. police say violent crimes including murder are down in the first half of this year. we are lunearning more abou the man with hiv accused of molesting

where he works. tracy joins us live from outside the middle school. >> reporter: this is the school where he works and we have found a number of students who attended this school who ran track with him who say that he was a good coach and a good substitute teacher from time to time. we are learning more about the other work that he did within the county. we were told by the sheriff's office that he worked at other schools. working for the before and after program that was at that elementary school. so they are asking parents who believe their kids may have been associated with him at that time to contact police. we know he was a track coach for the comets, a local track team where elementary school, high school and middle school students participate. he worked with the comets for sometime and e

been suspended from the school system continued to work with the team. this is a statement released from the president and it reads they have been in constant communication with the authorities providing them with the information they need to conduct their investigation. we send our deepest sympathies and prayers to the families affected by these circumstances. hear now from one of the students who called carlos bell a coach. >> we used to be real cool with him. he would be one of the best substitutes. when it came to track he would be so serious but fun when we did it. >> reporter: when you heard about the allegations? >> i was surprised. i didn't think mr. bell would do something like that and the fact that he was hiv positive is scary especially to the kids that it happened to. >> reporter: spokesman says they arece

in this case thousands of dollars. it was a first dance to remember. mother and daughter sharing a memo memory. with the loss of her husband this mom vowed to give her daughter the wedding of her dreams. >> i didn't have problems paying for whatever i needed to pay for. >> reporter: jennifer's daughter chose the venue and what she thought was the perfect company to provide the tent. the name of the company was gotcha covered party rental. according to the contract they would drop it off the day before the wedding and pick up three days later. >> about two weeks prior to the actual date that the tent was to be delivered i was contacted by a representative to find out if i can move my date from friday delivery to thursday. >> reporter: jennifer says the nu

long as they removed the tent in three days which is the venue's policy. unfortunately, that wasn't going to work. >> she said i can't pick it up on sunday. i will be out of town attending my reunion. >> reporter: according to this text it is our policy not to work weekends. to jennifer ffs surprise the tent company showed up on that thursday to set up. >> weren't allowed in the gates because she couldn't pick the tent up on sunday and that would have cost me my security deposit. >> reporter: she tells us the owner refused to refund her but did offer her something else. >> he would, however, give me half off on another tent rental if i get it within six months from that date. when will i need a 40 by 100 tent again. i only have one daughter, one wedding. >> reporter: when he was contacted he told us he wasn't really

first at 4:30 firefighters accused at fighting one another instead of the fire taking over a home. >> a career first responder facing charges. christ gordon has more. >> reporter: as you see the house is blocked off. windows are still boarded up. the public cannot come too near this because it is unstable. it is still dangerous. there were a lot of prince george's county firefighters career and volunteers working side by side. but once this fire was out on sunday we are told an argument broke out between a career officer and the volunteer. neighbors took this video

house fire subsinday afternoon. they say firefighters arrived quickly and brought the blaze under control. later a volunteer firefighter complained that he was allegedly assaulted at the scene of a fire by a career officer with prince george's county fire ems. >> based on zero tolerance with work place violence both of those firefighters were removed from emergency operations immediately and an investigation is ongoing as to what occurred and what should happen if any additional disciplinary action is required. >> reporter: the volunteer firefighter asked police to investigate his allegations against the career officer. police chief tells me it is too early to determine if a criminal charge will be filed or not. >> allegatiwe will investigate file a charge appropriately once it is reviewed by the state's

>> reporter: police and prosecutors may determine that no criminal charge is warranted and the investigation may try to determine if the argument here is the latest in the ongoing feud in prince george's county between career and volunteer firefighters. >> christ gordon, thanks. a charles county school aid and coach is charged with making child pornography and assaulting students. now school officials say there could be more victims. a grand jury indicted charles bell. bell admitted to police he is hiv positive. some of the abuse allegedly happened at benjamin staud rd middle school. in the wake of the allegations parents are faced with having a difficult conversation with their children. molette green spoke to psychiatrist

not be handing over that information to this commission. troy johnson is here. what are listeners saying? it sounds like people have suspicions. >> it is critical you say suspicion, concern, as well. the trump administration is asking for some very critical information. i'll run through some of it. there may be things that folks aren't aware of. voters names and addresses, date of birth, party affiliation, voting history. voters' social security numbers. information about felony convictions and some of their time spent in the military. quite a few listeners told me that is too much info. in maryland attorney general says it is illegal. state law prevents them from providing that kind of information. i spoke with kyla today. she tells me it is really important that these 40 states are taking the stance to block this commission from access

from voters. she tells me she believes the presidents' concerns about voter fraud are unfounded. she tells me this effort takes him away from improving our company not just for his base but for everyone. >> i have to agree with the california and virginia officials when they said that the president's the tension would be better spent updating voting systems and focussing on alleged election meddling. i feel like that is where he can best serve his time, best tweeting and focus on that because right now that's a concern of the american citizens. he should just let it go. let it go and focus on something that is much more important to our country, for our safety and for our economy at this point. >> a lot of people were telling me that they're concerned that this information won't be used to investigate voter fraud but

this is fascinating. amelia earhart went missing 80 years ago. a new piece of evidence suggests that she did not die on that fateful flight around the world. investigators at the history channel have uncovered a never before seen photo. >> they believe it shows earheart alive and in japanese custody. >> reporter: amelia earhart on a flight with navigator took off and was never heard from again. for 80 years the world has wondered what happened to amelia earhart and her navigator. in july
