and all of this rain, folks is not over yet. >> we have coverage of the condition. let's start with amelia draper. >> hi doreen and leon. here is what i'm seeing, really heavy areas of rain and thunderstorms just exploding back to our west, but metro area, most of northern virginia, you're looking out the window and saying the sun is out, more weather heading into your area the evening and overnight hours so here is what i'm tracking right now culpepper areas, notice it's very heavy -- lots of bright colors here on the radar, it is coming down in buckets in parts, a lot of lightning, too. so i'm going to take you to this area right now. show you the latest. notice we're seeing a lot of red there. moving towards culpepper. heads up in these areas. culpepper under severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15, parts of madison county, including madison continued to be under tornado warning. the shape of the st,

has lost the classic tornado look. i think there was a tornado there for a little bit on the weak side. but i want to show you the latest timing, as this continues to move toward our north and east, moving in to happy creek, right around 6:15. at about 6:58. the leesburg and gaitersburg right around 8:00 this evening. more rain after that. we're not talking about the heavy rain just yet, everybody about the flash flood watch until 2:00 a.m. you continue to be under flood warning until 7:00 this evening and we'll continue to get more information in culpepper county and thunderstorm warning until 6 clan 45. again, that heavy rain moving towards the metro area, i'll have the latest timing and updates coming up. >> we'll check back in a few minutes. thanks. now, to a close call for two kids in prince william county. they lost control of their kayak in the rush and water water.

responders rushed to the screen. david joins us from the scene. david. >> reporter: >> doreen, a very close call, one of the first responders on scene told me that this could have ended a lot worse. fortunately two young kayakers they're okay tonight. prince williams they had the rescue team in this water and it will increase as soon as they got the phone call. i want to show you and show you how quick. >> and as we pan over here, kind of looks like the minny rapid, that's another five foot high pole that's completely submerged. the young kayakers were able to get out safely. it was a little bit of struggle for the swift water rescue team. it took them

to get back in and back on to dry land. you can see the boat that pulled up and had about eight units on there. they were able to finally get back to shore and get the boats loaded back and head back to the station. the dangers out here, not only limited to the creekville. i want to take you not too far from where we are here. this is piper lane, you can see some of the vehicles that made their way under that train trusle, that was about foot high of water. last check, it had amelia mentioned it's dry out here. the water still going up. still in some parts. it's not only limited. let's take you to fairfax county. we were there a little bit earlier today. some of the vehicles that would approach the body of watt l water, they decided to not risk it and turn around and head back the other way, that is the advice from first responders as we come back

alexandria last month. doctors at washington hospital say the house majority scalise underwent more surgery today. they say he tolerated the procedure well. scalise was re-admitted last night because of concerns about infections, last night his condition was downgraded from fair to serious and he remains in serious condition tonight. a gunman opened fire at a ball field on june 14th. capitol police and other officers returned fire and killed the gunman. tonight charles county schools are providing free hiv testing to students as part of a sex abuse

>> a young girl she disappeared in 2014 and never since been found. just a daily indignity of families trying to make a life inside dc general hospital has been unbearable for several years. they do have shelter, it's not a place for children to be. >> everybody agrees that dc general is no place for families. but what the mayor is trying to do is pretty ambitious, build six of these facilities. >> right, all around town. >> how long is that going to take. >> she hopes to have them all open by 2019. to have shelters from all around the city, no more than 50 in any particular neighborhood so families can have sense of neighborhood. she promised to get them open and running for re-election, she'll be announcing probably in the next month. she wants them to be done. she said homelessness and family homelessness is a big ise.

she gets them up and running and they're run well, that's the key issue. i talked to the neighbors today on kennedy street. they say this will be a nice thing for the families. they also want it to be nice for the neighborhood. if it's run well and there are services and facilities there and job training for the parents who live there, it will be a good thing and they will be out of dc general and the mayor said she's looking forward to tearing down dc general hospital. >> does she have it lined up. >> there was an issue about where it's around the city. but those have all been decided now. the sites are picked. the building plans are being made. and everything goes well, they'll be homeless for 200 homeless families by 2019. >> i think do we know that this works. >> this is short term housing. you know, it's hard to get someone to settle down. the mayor said today you've got to get the family settled, they can't be looking for a place to live constantly and trying to figure out how they're going

there's still some wet stuff to worry about. >> and the sunshine we're seeing now is helping to fuel storms out to our west. a lot of people saying it's looking kind of nice out, i think it's going to be fine, i do assure you, that's not going to be the case. take a look at storm team 4 radar. you can see the metro area, that's where southern maryland in the clear right now seeing sunshine, beautiful cloud formation. guys it's hard to miss on radar. notice this line, very heavy rain fall, lots of lightning on the south end. this is moving northeast, starting to push here and eventually prince williams, fairfax, the district on into prince georges and montgomery county and continuing. we'll be here tracking it. i want to show you the latest impact. moving in at around

alexandria, right around 8:20. the district at about 8:30. the nationals game will get underway, the rain moves into the area. text them, heads up there moving into parts of frederick right around 8:55. i want to show you the latest watches around warnings. flood warning in effect for parts of manasas until midnight tonight, flood warning for saint mary's county continues for another 35 minutes. parts of culpepper and orange continue to be under a severe thunderstorm warning for another 20 minutes until 6:45. what are the storm impacts tonight until about 9:00 p.m. by far and away biggest concern is going to be very heavy rain fall. remember, everybody. everybody watching right now is under a flash flood watch until 2:00 a.m. so you can continue to see some flash flooding, a lot of the areas already seeing well over an inch of rain. it won't be hard to get some

we could see some high winds, as well. those are my two main concerns for severe weather. as we look to tomorrow, still some scattered showers around the morning hour, which patchy fog, as well. 73 degrees, maybe isolated shower. but the sunshine starts to peak out. the afternoon looking nice. partly sunny skies, hot tomorrow and on the muggy side, temperatures around 90 for a high. then tomorrow evening, new information coming in after 7:00 p.m., we'll start to see some scattered thunderstorms once again and 85 degrees. that is it. as we head into the weekend and looking dry. notice, friday, this is 8:00 on your friday, some areas of heavy rain, up around hagerstown, by 9:00, we're seeing some areas of rain and heavier pockets moving through the dc metro area, 10:00 p.m., east of 95 in southern maryland, traveling over the bay bridge, a late tomorrow night, potentially dealing with rain, thankfully no high wind warnings and that's going to set us up for nice

new concerns about crime, seven deadly shootings in just five days in prince georges county, the most recent early this morning. >> two men murdered in district heights, police say that's the latest in a trend of petty disputes being settled with g s guns. >> dorsey. >> reporter: doreen, prince georges county police just released the names of the victims a short time ago, they were philip micha

years old, he lived in southeast dc, the second victim was kenneth, he was 31 years old anl lived right there on the street where it happened. these are stemming from petty disputes. this one happened right on the street. a man gunned down while driving on the beltway. a teen shot to death while visiting friends. two young men killed in the parking lot of a district heights apartment complex. these are just some of the crimes that have happened in prince georges county in the last several days. >> for something like this to happen, it's unfortunate. >> there have been several fatal shootings in the county over the last five days. and that much of the violence is stemming from petty disputes. the shooting appears to have appeared from a disagreement involving two groups. >> they have armed themselves and tried to

life on the afternoon of july 4th here at the village drive through liquor store. sources say the gunman grew frustrated when it wasn't going fast enough and opened fire, killing demarco robinson, a backseat passenger. >> walk away from them. and more than 12% decrease. but each death leads a community in mourning and concern for their safety. police were out in the neighborhood just a short time ago handing out these flyers. they're requesting information, no arrest have been made in that case so far. we're here at the town hall where a meeting is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 this evening. the chief expected to get an

of car break ins because people are leaving their cars unlocked, parked along the side of the road and in their driveways. sometimes it leads to other crimes. >> they're finding credit cards which then turn into problems at, you know, banks and other retail establishments and crimes there. it's causing an excess amount of work. >> here at this neighborhood, the warning is being spread by lists or postings about removing valuables and locking car doors. >> it's always destushing when you wake up or get an e-mail that there's been some break ins. >> do you lock your car when you park. >> i try to. i don't always. >> police say this is not only happening here in bethesda, but also in rockville and they say it is a nationwide problem. covering montgomery

chris gordon, news 4. crews have already started breaking up concrete to get rid of the old route 7 over pass. it's going to be very loud and last for quite a while, several weeks, we're told. fairfax county granted crews noise waiver that was going through specific times. it will start as early as 7:00 a.m. and last until 11:00 p.m., monday through thursday and begins at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up at 9:00 p.m. great weekend ahead for you. expected to end by august 30th. united airlines is apologizing for giving a child's seat away to a stand by passenger. the child is 27 months old. the big kid, his mother bought his ticket months ago for a flight from houston to boston. she said the stand by passenger came on board and said her son was in the wroj seng seat and s the flight was full. >> i had to move my son on

-- let's go back to amelia in the weather center. she's got news of a tornado warning in our area, amelia. >> exactly. this is the same area of rain that produced the tornado warning back in madison county. it's now in effect of parts of orange. this is going to go until 7:15 this evening. this area in red right here is under that tornado warning, including route 20. i want to show you the latest here. i want to let you know what's going on. dc metro area seeing sunshine right now, no rain in sight. that's not going to be the case. it's the sail area of rain. you see the really impressive storm, i was just talking about before the break, that's where that tornado warning is. all of this rain slowly making its way back. let's go back down to where the tornado warning is. look at all of this lightning. when we see a tornado warning or potentia

echo you hear so much about, uptick in lightning. dramatic uptick in lightning. i've seen that happen here on storm team 4 radar. i'm not surprised that the national weather service has issued a tornado warning for parts of orange county until 7:15. i'm going to step off the screen so i can track the storm for you. not only are we seeing lots of lightning out that way. very heavy rain fall, as well. as we continue on into the evening hours, we'll have scattered showers at time. pockets of heavy rain will continue this storm is moving towards the east at about 30 miles an hour. so let me take the lightning off here and first show you the rain fall rate. let me move this so i can take a look at what we're seeing. i'm going to take my show and put it down to the last hour so we can get a closer timeline on exactly what we're seeing. as we loop this now. this is a 45-minute loop. we're seeing potential for tornado warning. this is for orange and a

bit of -- so let me stop the radar right now. i'm going to take a look at the rain fall rates, potentially, in this tornado warning, again, for orange countys. that's going to go for another -- for another 30 minutes, i will say, the rain fall rates you can see are excessive. it might be overestimated by the radar, eight inches an hour is extreme and then you get away from the potential heart of the storm where rain fall rates do drop off dramatically. so this is a radar indicated tornado warning. let me pop up the warning here and kwery this for you. this is a radar indicated tornado warning. this is going to be for northeastern orange county, both of these, obviously, in virginia going until 7:15. so this is a storm, obviously, capable of producing a tornado. it's now moving very slowly, at about 15 miles an hour, not only could we see potential tornado, but also potential for qrt

issued tornado warnings. a lot of times in our area, when they're issuing a tornado warning, it's a radar indicated tornado warning. what that means the radar is picking up enough rotation, you'll see what i mean here in just a moment as they take off the tornado warning. the radar is seeing enough potential rotation for a tornado, nobody in orange county has called in to the national weather service and said i've seen a tornado on the ground. regardless, if you're in orange county in this tornado warning, you need to seek shelter now. what you're seeing is a hail indicator, our radar not picking up the rotation, they are picking up that potential for hail in this thunderstorm, again, very impressive electrical storm. i can show you the lightning strike over the last ten minutes with this storm and they're at 167. so if you're in this area you know exactly what i'm talking about. this is a storm you talk about and remember just because of the lightning alone and then on t

rain fall. this storm is moving towards the east at about 30 miles an hour. i'm seeing a camera on channel 49, guys, right now. i believe that's out potentially towards the warning ton area. i want to also, while we're figuring out a vantage point from areas that are seeing rain. time this out for you. this is moving towards the east at 15 miles an hour. we'll put that in our system here and you'll start to see this red line go across the screen. this is only for the tornado warning. but, first, we'll take a break and go to the tornado, do we know where this camera is. okay. fredericks bird. so this is a camera that we're seeing in fredericksburg. fredericksburg seeing some heavy rain. that rain moving back into the area right now and as we can go back, guys, to the computer and show you the timing for what we're seeing right now. again, this storm moving towards the east, very slowly at about 15 miles an hour, so rock road at

heart wood at 7:20, moving into the fredericksburg area at 7:45. fredericksburg is not under tornado warning, parts of orange county is. i want to reset and hone in under the areas that's under the tornado warning. this is mainly for orange county, so let me kind of outline the area here. so this is going to be orange county, where i'm drawing this line here. so this is the majority of the tornado warning and this area right here as we head into the county. along route 20. if you live along or by route 20, you're under tornado warning. you need to go to your basement, great news here at the national weather service has cancelled that tornado warning. i'm going to pop back on the screen, bring it up, again, i want to show you exactly what we're seeing right now. i'm going to tile out the storm moving back into our

>> we're going to get a lesser tornado. an ef 0 or ef 1 could produce similar damage to thunderstorm we're seeing here alone with so much lightning and so much heavy rain fall. so this part of the storm system is heading towards the east, right towards fredericksburg at about 15 miles an hour, fairly slowly. but then this area of rain is starting to make its way back into the dc metro area moving into parts of prince williams an fairfax county, eventually the beltway. the good news is northern branch is starting to fizzling out a little bit. we'll have showers, maybe pockets of heavy rain moving back in, i don't think we're going to see severe thunderstorms moving back into the metro area. z we wrap it up here, i'm going to leave you guys with the latest track of rain moving back t
