points. others have been drier. nowhere near as dry as we saw much earlier this morning. here on 66 cars are kind of easing into this not going as fast as we saw earlier. also, that fog that very light fog we saw this morning, appears to be not an issue at all at this point. but as more cars get on the road, those wet roads and traffic could become a situation. back in to you. >> all right. justin, thank you. a close call for two kids in prince william county during the height of the rain. they lost control of their kayak in bull run creek yesterday. the current was moving too fast for them to control that kayak. they screamed for help and first responders rushed to the scene. the current made it difficult for the swift water rescue team to make it back on to dry land. the shift is on. and that's swanson up the middle and the braves beat the nats. >> while you were sleeping the nationals were on the field playing. first really they were

on their agenda, we're hearing about incidents all over town this morning including one where dozens tried to block cars from accessing the meeting that's taken place in the downtown area. nothing on the scale of the big confrontations that we saw hours ago involving tens of thousands where they set fires, hurled bottles and rocks at police and the police fired back at them using water cannons and pepper spray. more than 100 officers hurt and 29 arrested. back to you, erika. >> all right. thank you. some of the top stories we're following this morning, congressman steve scalise is in serious condition after surgery. doctors say the house majority whip is suffering from an infection from the shooting injury he suffered during last month's congressional baseball practice. >> the former uber driver is accused of -- accused of a sex offense. this is ergun gunes. ic

after an alleged attack last week in hyattsville and may be driving a dark colored toyota rav4 with virginia tags. megan mcgrath is following this story and will have more at 6:30. the man who escaped deportation in loudoun county only to be recaptured is heading back to court. marlon rivas-mendez asked for an attorney. his preliminary hearing is set for this afternoon. rivas-mendez was deported five times before monday's escape. keep an eye on the nbc washington app as we learn more from the courtroom today. the man responsible for days of panic and confusion in prince george's and montgomery countys will be sentenced. as part of a plea deal, we expect the man to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. last month he pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his estranged wife and two strangers last year. the killings happened over two days. darcy spencer will be in the courtroom for today's sentencing and follow her on twitter @darcyce

seven people have been shot and killed in prince george's county. we learned the identities of the latest two victims. we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday. prince george's police say philip michael and kenneth edmonds were part of two groups arguing with one another that started with woods and ended with gunshots in the parking lot of an apartment building in district heights. 42 homicides in the county this year, compared to 48 at this time last year. they may not know their names or faces but last night neighbors in charles county prayed together for the ten boys who were reportedly abused by a teacher's aide. >> allow us to be servants, lord, to those young children whoever they may be and to their families. >> local ministers and the women of action? charles county held a prayer service last night outside benjamin stoddard middle school in waldorf. the sheriff's department said it was inside that school carlos bell recorded himself

some of the abuse happened at his house. bell is hiv positive. people gathered last night say everything about the case is heartbreaking. >> and we want the families to know that we're here, we're all mothers. we're here to support because as you know, when women get together, we change things. >> we're working to learn when bell will make his first court appearance and the possibility of more charges being filed. the school system will provide free hiv testing for anybody who may have been exposed to the virus by carlos bell. this case in charles county has striking similarities to one in prince george's county. former school aide deonte caraway is charged which abusing students in a elementary cool and recreational center. he's asking a judge to drop the charges because he believes his rights were violated. in a letter to the judge he says he hasn't been treated fairly since he didn't get a court date

area. still have the issue on 7 and a problem on the green line. take a look at all of that and your travel times coming up. molette green at the live desk. want to fill you in on a story you may see on social media as you get up this morning. a delta airlines flight attendant assaulted, forcing the plane bound for beijing to turn around last fight. a spokesperson for seattle/tacoma international says a first class passenger assaulted the attendant about 45 minutes into the flight. several passengers helped take him down. police waited on the tarmac to arrest the man. two people had to go to the hospital but they are expected to be okay and that flight was resketsled. it is 6:13. a montgomery county mother is not competent to stand trial. police say catherine hoggle was the last person to see her children alive. according to a new report doctors say there is still a chance hoggle's condition could change. jacob and sara hoggle

they've never been found. prosecutors say they've been building a murder case against their mother. another hearing is scheduled for the end of august. police have charged a georgia mother with murder after officers found her four children and their father stabbed to death. a fifth child was also stabbed but survived. all of the children were under ten years old. isabelle martinez is facing five counts of murder here. investigators say they've recovered the knife used in the killings. no word yet on a motive. today marks one year since the deadly police shooting in dallas where five officers were killed in that shooting by a sniper who ambushed police. the ambush played out late at night on social media live streams and on tv. dallas' mayor says it was not just a pivotal time for the city but one for the nation. mayor rawlings sat down with our sister station in dallas to reflect on how that shooting forever changed the city. >> what it has done is called upon all of

explosion. this happened at the chemistry building yesterday afternoon. as a result of that, the building had to be evacuated. we're told the explosion was caused by some type of chemical reaction. >> congressman steve scalise remains in serious condition after surgery. doctors say the house majority whip is suffering from an infection from his shooting injury he suffered during last month's congressional baseball practice. right now, the pressure is on in hamburg, germany, for the g-20 summit. a live look at a much calmer scene after tens of thousands of protesters clashed with police outside the meeting. police are guarding the streets trying to keep demonstrators under control now. this is how violent it got overnight as you look at the video here. protesters were setting fires and hurling bottles and rocks and fireworks at police officers. police used water cannons and tear gas to get them under control. nbc's jay gray is in hamburg with a look ahead at today

>> reporter: hey there and good morning, aaron, erika, you may hear the hum of security choppers overnight. protesters still here in hamburg as they did last night. there was a sit-in early this morning. a small group of those demonstrators trying to block access to the opening of the g-20 summit. police used water cannon and then forcefully removed them and it did nothing to delay the opening of the session here. this all coming and unfolding as we are now just hours away from the highly anticipated meeting between president trump and vladimir putin, the russian president. on the agenda, we're not real sure. the white house has refused to discuss anything that the leaders may discuss here later this afternoon but you can assume there will be talk of syria and iran and also be talk of the ukraine and many back home are really demanding that the president bring up russian meddling in the 2016 presidential
