something. the chief says he met with commanders last week about shift changes, raising the average to 12 hours. critical few hours can stop crime and save lives. until recently, homicide rate in pg county was lower year to year. that's until 12 people were killed in the past 11 days. that gap is tightening. the cause is deeply rooted conflicts in people that know each other well that result in violent conflict. the hope is increased patrols will make streets safer where so many work and live. >> i think as a whole, i think it would be good for the community and hopefully more manning. >> this is my home. and it troubles me when we have these

breaking news out of prince george's county. chopper 4 over the scene of this house fire. take a look there. not sure we are able to zoom in. there we go. you can see this has done extensive damage to this house which is on willow hill place. 400 block of willow hill place in hi atmosphereville, maryland. you can see total destruction of the roof. a lot of the two story home is gutted. firefighters on the scene, a big presence. looks like everything is under control. perhaps walking around. see them inside the house and around it looking for hot spots. from what it appears from our vantage point, doesn't look like nearby homes were damaged by

effecting prince george's county and fairfax county but other parts as well. now looks like d.c. leaders are trying to take advantage of it. the federal government announced yesterday it will keep the fbi at its current spot on pennsylvania avenue. they say they don't have enough money to move it out of a deteriorating building. prince george's county county, news was tough to take. the government was mulg over two possible sites. landover mall and spot near the greenbelt metro station. people that live there say it is more than just a building. >> thought we were turning a corner, still think we're turning a corner. such a disappointment. >> you expect something, think something will happen. that's disappointing. >> leaders are saying they're asking the administration to reconsider the plan. councilman wants to suggest two possible sites in the district,

new building there. aaron? >> angie goff in the newsroom, thank you. 6:18. today parents of a terminally ill boy in england face a deadline to present new evidence their son would benefit from an experimental treatment. 11 month old charlie gard is in a hospital that recommended life support be turned off. new information from vatican children's hospital and another facility outside great britain sparked a legal battle by the parents to keep charlie alive. if they meet today's deadline, another hearing will be held tomorrow. it is a story parents of kids of any age would listen to. a texas family says an internet challenge encouraged their son to kill himself. >> the 15-year-old hang td himself saturday. the family says he was playing the blue whale challenge which is basically a dare that spread through social media. the challenge assigns daily tasks for up to a 50 day period. th
