meeting. president trump suspended h-- erika, thank you. breaking news on president trump's travel ban. in hawaii, a judge loosened the rules on the ban. it expands the definition of close relatives, grandparents and other relatives of people in this country legally will now be allowed to visit. the supreme court is expected to take up the case later this year. coming up in a few minutes, tracie potts will break down the latest on the republican push for a new health care bill. you may want to find alternate routes today. >> the organizers behind january's women's marplan to march from fairfax county to d.c. today protesting the national rifle association. the protesters will gather at the nra headquarters at 9:00 this morning. they'll make their way to the justice department. that's 18 miles. one participant explains why she's marching. >> the purpose of the women's march frhe

they want you to take a close look. in the video, you can clearly see two people shooting at each other. parents say kids were playing outside when the two men got into a fight and pulled those weapons. this happened on i street northeast. a toddler was hit twice. his mother said he's doing a lot better. a jury is expected to hear closing arguments in a deadly wedding day stabbing case. for the first time they heard directly from the suspect. he took the stand in his own defense yesterday. prosecutors say he stabbed wedding caterer john after a wedding in chantilly in august of last year. bonds was a fairfax county parks employee argued that he stabbed johns in self-defense. bonds told jurors that he had been backed into a railing by johns. he testified that the caterer had her hands-on his neck and that he couldn't breathe. the argument was reported on his cell phone. here's part of that c

>> [ bleep ] what happened? >> you stabbed me. >> johns' loved ones tell us she was not the aggressor but was a soft, sweet person. this morning, the families of four young men are waiting to learn more about what happened to their sons. cosmo dinardo admitted to killing the four men. their bodies were found in a common grave at dinardo's family farm in bucks county, pennsylvania, outside philadelphia. all the men had been missing since last week. as the confessed killer was led away in handcuffs, he had two words to say. >> anything to say? >> the person with knowledge of the confession tells the associated press that dinardo felt cheated or threatened during a drug deal. the virginia square metro station is back open after a man was hit and killed by a metro train last

metro transit police say that man intentionally walked on to the tracks between that station. he was hit around 9:30 p.m. but have not released the man's name. thankful, that's how congresswoman describes her feeling after the indictments of two former staffers who allegedly circulated nude pictures and videos of her and her husband. plas ket released a statement. she's a nonvoting delegate from the virgin islands. the indictment handed down on thursday didn't name her but said a lawmaker had given juan mccullum to have a cell phone fixed. they got the x-rated material from that phone and shared it. mccullum is facing cyber stalking charges and charged with obstruction of justice. women on capitol hill are calling today sleeveless friday. it's part of a protest that bans sleeveless dresses in the

destroyer. the u.s.s. fitzgerald collided with a much larger cargo ship after the japanese koechlts moments after that accident, that large hull flooded part of the ship. seven sailors drowned there. two from our area. this morning a frederick, maryland family is mourning. he was among 16 people killed in that military plane crash in mississippi. his mother, who still lives in frederick, says her son joined the marines to follow in his father's food steps. the cause of the plane crash on monday is still under investigation. the military says the plane may have broken up or exploded midair. it was carrying members of the elite marine raiders special ops team. promising news this morning coming from that shooting at the congressional baseball practice last month. congressman steve scalise has been upgrade today

condition after undergoing another surgery. it was related to his bullet wounds. scalise has been recovering from last month's shooting at med star washington hospital center. the summer weather is taking a toll on a former president. jimmy carter has been hospitalized for dehydration. he was helping to build houses. he's in winnipeg with his wife working on a two-day habitat for humanity project. the organization ceo says the 92-year-old former president did not appear to be in serious medical danger. people who rely on social security checks will soon see the largest payment spike in years. in 2018, social security is expected to jump by more than 2%. for the average person, that means you'll get an extra $28 a month. the board that oversees the program released the projection yesterday. but with the projection also came a warning. the money could run dry by 2034. more than 60 million americans

senate republicans as they continue to try and convince their own party to get behind the latest health care bill. >> news 4's tracie potts joining us from capitol hill live to break down what needs to be done to push this bill through. tracie, good morning. >> hey, aaron and eun, good morning. we know what the republican leadership has done to sweeten the deal but it didn't work for one conservative and one moderate. rand paul and susan collins who are still no votes. which means every other republican, 50 of them, have to be convinced to vote for this bill or it dies. here's what they did to sweeten the pot. for moderates, agd $45 billion for opioid treatment. keeping the taxes for the wealthy. and $70 billion in subsidies to help low-income families pay for their health care. conservatives, using health savings accounts, pre-packed money to pay for insurance premiums. catastrophic claims, plus the plans that ted cruzit

a grand jury indicted sean urbanski saying he stabbed and killed richard collins iii in may. he was expected to graduate from bowie state days later. the state's attorney for prince george's county is still investigating the motive. indictments were also announced in the double murder of two high school students. those murders shocked the local community. three men, edgar garcia, roger garcia and jose canales, several charges, including murder. the suspects shot and killed two men the night before the two students were set to graduate from high school. authorities believe the murders were revenge for a robbery that that jar was rumored to be involved in. p p. there is a show support for a transgender woman in the district. washington is in critical

in a hit and run last week. police made an arrest in that case and are investigating to see if it was a hate crime. yesterday a march was held in freedom plaza. the marchers hope to bring attention to violence, harassment and discrimination against transgender women in d.c. >> i was devastated. it's ridiculous that you can't even walk down the street anymore without having to fear for your life as a black trans woman. >> the group is calling for mayor bowser to do more to protect the trans community. the mayor is committed to the lgbtq community. expect to feel the heat today. very closely, too. won't be nearly as hot as yesterday when the heat index was well over 100 degrees. look at this. people were outside trying to cool off. i see some frozen treats there. a lot of water, of course. trying to stay in the shade. but any time the temperatures reach above the

neighbors in bowie say they feel blind sided by plans for a new high-speed train. they say it would pass through their neighborhoods. the proposed train would take you from d.c. to new york in an hour. the project has reached a point where potential routes are being identified. the first leg would be between d.c. and baltimore. while no final decision has been made on any route, the city of bowie could be right in the middle of it all. >> everybody's been up in arms about it, because it really was really under the lay dradar. >> it will decimate the home values and these people will be left destitute. >> the company spearheading the project tell me no decision has been made and the public will have many chance toss weigh in. an exam that your kids probably asked to go to and faes
