we have another alert today. it's not just for the heat this time, it's also for storms this afternoon. we could see potentially strong to severe storms as we go into the afternoon hours. but starting off with your friday, it is another very warm, humid morning out there. 80 degrees now in the district. 79 quantico, 80 annapolis. most of the area in the mid to low 70s elsewhere. going through the day, we have the risk for strong to severe storms. currently on the drier side. we have a few showers towards the frostburg area. take a look at your friday planner. by noon today, feeling near 100 degrees. temperatures in the 90s. through the afternoon, we have the risk for strong to severe storms, damaging winds would be the main issue here. we'll take a closer look at that coming up. it is friday, and we like a nice friday commute, melissa. >> don't we like a nice friday commute. southbound 295 before east capitol street. the

beltway, no big issues. everything is starting to move. we had earlier roadwork out of the way. 66 inbound here, fairfax county parkway to the beltway, you're on time. if you're going a little bit over the speed limit, you'll get there in aeeight minutes. southbound a little slowdown through quantico. might be late clearing roadwork. no incident being reported. eun? it's 5:02. breaking news in montgomery county. a home and a police cruiser were destroyed after a fire on haney avenue in damascus. >> justin finch is at the scene right now. justin, tell us what you know about this fire. >> reporter: hey there, aaron. good morning. a delicate operation mere so far. what happened was a police cruiser was on the ground of this house fire. as you can see, it was destroyed by the impact of this fire. making matters worse here. inside of that cruiser, there was live ammo. as this hous i

ammo began to explode. neighbors telling us for several minutes, they heard the clap of the ammo in that cruiser. montgomery county firefighters getting the scene under control. take a look at the damage to this one-story house here. as you can see, the front end is completely gutted. black, down to the wood frame of this home here. that damage does extend throughout the home. through that window. a lot of heavy damage in that particular room there. as you mentioned, this fire did break out close to 3:00 a.m. on the block of haney avenue off of ridge avenue out here in damascus. we do know that homeowners were inside at the time. they were treated for smoke inhalation. no update yet on their condition. but i can tell you right now, they seem very much still active. trying to pick up what the massive response here by montgomery county. they had to put a lot of attention and pressure on this fire to bring it under control. for now, we're live here in damascus. i'm justin finch. news 4.

guys. yeah, it's going to be a very busy day. the march is actually happening this morning in fairfax county at the national rifle association headquarters. then the protesters, they're going to march here to the department much justice on pennsylvania avenue and that is going to happen in the middle of the day. so we are expecting a large crowd. they're going to be winding their way, 18 miles, from fairfax county through the streets of washington down here to pennsylvania avenue. so expect delays. we caught up with one of the protesters yesterday. she's making signs, rather, for the march. so a lot of activity there. let's take a specific look here at the timeline. 9:00 a.m. is when folks will gather at the nra headquarters in fairfax county. 10:00 is when the rally begins. at noon the march begins. folks will make the 18-mile trek to the department of justice. expect traffic delays from georgetown to the department of justice on pennsylvania avenue. we're talking about the k

parents say children were playing outside when the two men argued and pulled the weapons. this happened monday night on i-street northeast. a toddler was caught in the crossfire and shot twice. he is back home and his mother says he's doing a lot better. this morning the families of four young men are waiting to learn more about what happened to their sons. dinardo admitted to killing the four men. their bodies were found in a common grave at dinardo's family farm in bucks county, pennsylvania. all men were missing since last week. as the confessed killer was led away in cuffs, he had two words to say. >> anything to say? >> the person with knowledge of the confession tells the associated press said he felt cheelted or threatened ziefrnltsds the metro station is back open after someone was hit and killed by a train. the person intentionally

on the tracks in boston. he was hit around 9:30 p.m. but they've not released the man's name. metro has another plan to make you open your wallet. they want to change when you pay to park. the board gave preliminary approval to pilot program that will charge for parking on saturdays and certain special events. they're also considering extending the hours you have to pay to park in metro lots. the agency thinks the changes could generate about $8 million and they need that money to close a budget gap. thankful, that's how congresswoman stacy plas ket describes herself. the democrat is a nonvoting delegate from the virgin islands. the indictment didn't name her. but it said a lawmaker had given juan mccullum a cell phone to have it fixed. mccullum got the x-rated

directly from the suspect. bonds took the stand in his own defense yesterday. he stabbed wedding caterer john after a wedding in chantilly in august of last year. bonds was a fairfax county parks employee argued that he stabbed johns in self-defense. bonds told jurors he was backed into a railing by johns. he testified that the caterer had her hands-on his neck and that he couldn't breathe. the argue um was record-- argum recorded on his cell phone. boy -- blp. >> [ bleep ]. >> oh, you stabbed me. p friends said she was a soft, sweet person. it's a crime that has shaken up parents after -- now we have learned that the case against caraway will move forward. he's now satisfied with his

morning in fairfax at the nra headquarters. ultimately, it ends up here at the department of justice. roads in town, like pennsylvania avenue here, later this afternoon, there's a potential for a real traffic tie-up as this large crowd winds through the middle of the day to the department of justice. we are expecting traffic tie-ups as they hit the washington area. as they head across the key bridge, streets in georgetown, streets down to pennsylvania avenue here. now we caught up yesterday with a woman who was making signs for the march. a big crowd is expected here today. let's take a look at the more precise timeline here. at 9:00 this morning, folks are going to gather at the nra headquarters in fairfax. at 10:00 a.m. when the rally begins there at that headquarters. then at noon, that's when the marchers are going to begin to move. they'll be walking the 18 miles from fairfax here to the department of justice. now, they do plan to stick to the sidewalks on route

get an extra $28 a month. that is good news. the bad news. social security officials warn the money for benefits could run out by 2034. more than 60 million americans rely on social security benefits. metro has another plan to make you open your wallets. they want to charge and change when you pay to park. the metro board gave preliminary approval to a pilot program that will charge for parking on saturdays and certain special events. they're also considering exte extending the hours you have to pay to park in metro lots. the agency thinks the changes could generate about $8 million and they need that money to close a budget gap. neighbors in bowie say they feel blind-sided by plans for a new high-speed train. this would pass right through their neighborhoods. the proposed train will take you from d.c. to new york in an hour. potential ones are being identified. the city could be in the middle of it all. >> everybody has been up in arms about it. because it
